He's got one of their blankets draped over what was probably supposed to be his torso, but the heat makes it so that Mickey had bunched it more around his hips instead, providing no real coverage. Ilya blinks back the panic rising in his throat. “Shane, what the fuck? Is me. Ilya.”
Shane is still frowning. “Rozanov?” he asks, and suddenly, like he’s had a premonition, Ilya knows what Shane is going to say next. Knows from the furrow between his brows and the hunch in his shoulders and the hands that are very conspicuously not reaching for him.
“Rozanov,” Shane says again. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
So this is what it feels like for your heart to break.

Basically, a Digimon AU where humans are exceedingly valuable because of the immense power boost they grant to a Digimon... and treated as valuable property because of it. While there are outliers from other Servers who believe that an equal partnership is how the Digimon-human bond is supposed to work... this Server is dominated by the Slaver Coalition, who have set up an entire society based on keeping humans as Batteries.
Lots of worldbuilding, surprising amounts of slow burn (for me anyway) and much fun. Credit for the Duracell World concept goes to HeeberJebers.

They finally turn the dial from best friends to lovers throughout this stay, and comfort each other heavily. Especially when Max starts feeling visceral effects from losing her powers. Also, sex.
A sappy ending to LiS 1. A sappy ending where Double Exposure does not exist. Thank god.
Mostly written so I could cheer myself up after that depressing ending. Still crying XD
