Work Text:
The halls were a mess of students from all over years and classrooms. It had been one of those rare occasions in which more than one class and course ended up working on close areas.
Class 1-A had been training on gym Delta the same time that gym Alpha the one right beside it was being used by Class 2-A. And on the other side gym Theta was occupied by second year students from the support and management course, something about a marketing project for both classes.
When the bells ringed signaling the end of classes the three gyms were quickly emptied of students and the only hall that connected all the gyms in the zone began to be filled with students.
The majority of those in the hero course were trying to get quickly to the dorms, they had been training for the last classes they were all sweaty and a bath was their number one priority.
But the support and management had other priorities.
Little groups started to form all over the hall, students discussing the advance of their project, comparing results, exchanging ideas.
The already small hall growing even smaller thanks to them, and decreasing the free space in which the ones that wanted to leave could walk by.
Even though the amount of students made Izukus’s skin crawl in discomfort he knew that walking was the fastest option to leave the mess that had formed behind.
Iida, Ochako and Asui were walking in front of hum the three of them in a deep conversation about the math homework assigned that day. Todoroki was walking besides him, their conversation momentarily stopped the moment they leaved the gym, none of them comfortable speaking amongst many students.
“Out of the way!”
A scream, a push, and a class that ends in a fall.
Before Izuku could even process what was happening he was already on the floor, screams could be heard all over the hall against whoever had been that was running.
Over the floor all around him papers were scattered in all directions, and in front of him another student also on the floor.
The apologies were quick to fall out of his lips.
“I’m so sorry! I didn’t even realized that you were there! You aren’t hurt right?!”
The other boy looked to be from the support department. The other students that had been alongside him were quick to help him get up, Todoroki was also now besides him.
“Not your fault, there’s no need to worry.”
Both were now standing up once again, there were no visible injuries on the other boy.
“Still, here.”
Izuku said while beginning to pick up the papers on the floor.
“Let me help.”
The boy thanked him and also started to grab the papers, his friends and Todoroki quick to help them.
Once all the papers were no longer on the floor Midoriya passed the ones on his and Todoriki’s hands to the other student. Their hands touched briefly, and a small itch began to be present on Izuku’s hands.
“Once again, I’m so sorry.”
“And once again, you have nothing to apologize for, either way thank you for your help.”
Apologies ended Izuku and Todoroki began the walk to the rooms once again.
Leaving the hall behind Izuku realized that there was a buzzing on his ears.
‘Must have been because all the noise all over the hall.’
***
Over the next days the buzzing persisted, and alongside it a sore throat and headache that appeared every morning at the moment Izuku woke up.
The days went on and on and the company of a sore throat that barely allowed him to pass any kind of food, and left him with nothing more than pain after swallowing and speaking, alongside a headache that made all the sounds feel too loud, and all the lights too bright, was a new common to his life.
In more than one occasion he had denied himself any kind of food because the pain was just too much, no matter if what he was trying to swallow was just liquid.
Classes were harder to understand thanks to the headache and training had become even harder now that in some occasions he wasn’t even able to comprehend the instruction, it was only thanks to his friends repeating what was told that he could barely get at least some kind of guidance on what to do.
Then to make things worse a stuffy nose was then also added to the list discomforts that were becoming a daily occurrence. Alongside it, it was also becoming more common to not being able to smell things and in the few occasions that he managed to get more than a few bites of food it usually was all bland and flavorless.
He was aware that a fever was bound to come down on him, but at this point he was used to continuing his normal life even if he was under some sickness.
And comparing it to the things that had occurred to him since coming into U.A, a cold was nothing more than a minor little thing, it wasn’t something that he could allow to slow him down.
Except that as always, when it comes to Midoriya Izuku, things don’t really stop at ‘little.’

Gym zeta is full of the sound of quirks being activated and some occasional destruction. Today’s training consist on a capture the flag, but with all of the class divided in different teams, all with different objectives playing at the same time.
He’s on the red team.
The red team has to get the pink team flag, and the blue team will try to steal the red team flag. Red team can sabotage green team advances, but black team can also mess with red team.
There was also something with orange and yellow team, but he can’t remember what. Was it that they could plan alongside them? Or it was actually the contrary?
No.
The teams they weren’t allowed to interact with were purple and white.
Right?
But then what about brown team?
No, there was no brown team. The other teams were gold and gray, right?
Doesn’t matter.
It’s not like he’s the one going after the flag. His partner is in charge of that, he only had to protect his flag.
Who was his partner again?
The scream and sounds get closer to his hiding place and he knows that he’s seconds way form a fight.
He activates his quirk, green lightning running freely around him, and his arms HURThurthurthurt. There’s only pain painpainpainapainpainpainpainpain, it’s like breaking them all over again, they burn and tremble, the scars throb and feels like he just for them for the first time.
There’s and unbearable pain all over his head and then all he knows is nothing.

The smell of medicine is strong on Aizawa’s nose, the infirmary is almost empty except for Recovery Girl, himself, and unsurprisingly one Midoriya Izuku.
“So it was all because of a quirk?”
It had been rather scary, at first sight it had been just a normal exercise but then Midoriya activated his quirk and just collapsed.
Recovery Girl searches something amongst her documents, finding it she reads aloud.
“Arata Ryonosuke third year at the support department, Quirk, Knowing touch. If the person he uses his quirk on is currently under any kind of health problem, sickness or injury, a minor symptom of it will immediately appear. Once he activates it there’s a 5 minutes cool down in which whoever he touches will be affected by his quirk. Apparently he came into close contact with Midoriya a month ago.”
The infirmary is silent, school is already over so no other student should be coming into it.
“You said minor symptom, yet Midoriya collapsed out of nowhere and was under a strong fever, and from what we assume the pain of all of his injuries.”
“According to Ryonosuke this is the first time that someone had been that long under his quirk effect. In the past the longest had been a little over an hour and the situation was being strongly monitored.”
“So basically Midoriya has been under the quirk influence for almost more than a month slowly getting worse, and we all just missed any symptom.”
“Yes, that’s how it went.”
“What now?”
“Wait until Midoriya awakes, he’s no longer under Ryonosuke’s quirk , but seeing as this is the first time this happens, there’s not much we can do.”
And so they begin to wait.
