Summary
It first happened when she was six years old—punishment for running around too much, causing too much havoc and disturbing her father in his study. Bernadetta remembers it like it was yesterday. When her father grabbed her by the strap of her lilac sundress and threw her onto the chair; it makes her blood go cold like the winter waters every time.
It was a rotting old birch rocking chair that smelled like dead rodents, with legs and rockers that hardly supported her. Bernadetta thought she would only sit in it once, something like a time out that she or her friends got when they usually misbehaved, but little did she know it would be her eternal prison; if not physically, mentally.
Her father’s directive was simple: sit in the rocking chair and don’t move.
