Blue-jean baby

L.A. lady

Seamstress for the band

No matter what, Julia always appeared in the same pair of jeans, with suns and paint marks and stories. Despite the numerous requests for how she got them like that, or why she only ever wore those, her answer was always a soft, secretive smile and the phrase, “Blue-jean baby!”

One of the nights Luke was staying in the garage he and Julia, Julie or Jules now, were talking about the future. She admitted that although she lived in L.A. her whole life, she’d like to live somewhere she could make her designs and music. Luke wanted to ask more about the music but she merely shushed him and pointed at the stars.

Pretty-eyed

Pirate smile

It took him much longer to realize that he was in love than he thought. Finding the love of your life seemed like an event you wouldn’t miss, especially if it was as clear as day to everyone around you.

But Luke liked to blame it on her eyes, which shone like stars at his jokes and when he would play-fight with her brother Reggie and his friends. Or maybe even her smile, which gleamed sharp with fun Luke knew was going to make him pay. But for Julia? He’d go through anything.

You'll marry a music man

When he finally realized just how far he was, it didn’t take long for him to find a grape ring pop and keep it tucked in his bag. Maybe the ring pop would signify something more expensive, more serious, later. “You gotta ask her first man. You’ll never get a silver and gold ring on that finger if you don’t ask her to go out on Saturday with you.” Luke knew Bobby was probably right, but still he waited.

She didn’t need to marry the music man yet.

Ballerina

You must've seen her

Dancing in the sand

Although he had known he was gone on her for a while, the straw that broke his Julia Molina loving heart was seeing her dance.

They had gone down to the beach one day, right before school, and started a large bonfire. With four, almost five, musicians, it didn't take long for music to swarm the air.

Julie twirled around, as graceful as a ballerina, in the sand. As she laughed and spun, all he could think was how divine she looked.

The fire warmed her skin and she threw her head back and laughed. He felt his vision focus on her and her joy. His senses were dulled, and Luke could distantly hear Reggie asking him if he needed a towel..

He asked Alex and Bobby more than once if they saw her dancing.

She sings the songs

The words she knows

The tune she hums

It was a Sunday morning when he awoke to the sound of the sewing machine going off and the low hum of a familiar song.

The inviting face of Julie greeted him. Her hair was wound tightly on her head as she made alterations to sleeves and added details in the stitching. Once he finally gathered his senses he realized that Julie was singing one of their songs.

He laid still as she sang his words to the fabrics he wore and felt his heart bursting with affection for the tiny dancer.

When I say softly, slowly

Hold me closer, tiny dancer

He didn’t expect her to come check on him, but of course her brother had almost died, too. While Reg and Alex had their families, Luke had himself. His family was the boys.

So on day four of living hell a la food poisoning, the last thing he expected was Julia Rose Molina walking in through the garage doors bringing food, medicine, and company.

He felt tears building up and his throat burned with emotion as she unpacked broth and benadryl and chattered about her mother’s garden. He stopped her as she was midway through a thrilling story about hydrangeas with his hand covering hers.

She looked up with a faint blush and he felt his own flush. She abandoned her supplies and pulled him into an airy hug, and Luke had never felt more safe in his life.

After a long moment she began to pull away.

“N-No.” His voice cracked, still raw from the stomach acid and he flinched as he swallowed. Julie moved to speak but he shook his head.

“Will...will you hold me closer?”

“Who am I to deny you?” She whispered before clearing her throat. “I’m not a monster.” He chuckled until a coughing fit ended the fun. Her eyes softened as she checked his temperature and his heart skipped a beat.

Once she was satisfied with her homemade checkup, she stood. She brushed off her knees and made him get up so she could position herself as a pillow for his torso. As they settled she ran her hands through his hair, a quiet hum echoing through Luke’s mind.

Before he could fully fall asleep he felt the slight pressure of something soft on his head. His lips curled up in a sleepy smile as Julie grumbled about getting sick from him.
