Joan takes a long moment to stare at Mark, before closing her eyes tightly and shaking her head. Mark takes the hint and backs away, so that when she opens them again, he’s out of sight. She sighs and says dryly, “I have the happiest septic tank in the building.”
Mark had convinced her to throw out her latest pills, because she was complaining about how she couldn’t connect to her patients. How else was he supposed to react?
Owen groans in exasperation. “They were working, Joan!” He stands and reaches for his bag, grabbing a notebook out of it. “I guess we can go back to the doctors and try again.”
“No, they weren’t."

So Darius walks the few blocks to the skate park, finds a secluded spot against the fence, and sits, drawing his knees up to his chest.
Brooklynn is alive. She’s been alive this whole time. The guilt he’d been feeling so intensely for the last year doesn’t mean anything anymore. There was no point to any of it. She’d never died. She had lost an arm, but she wasn’t gone.

And the road trip of it all was enticing to Sam. She hadn’t seen much of the states in general, her parents choosing to fly for the few family vacations they had taken when she was a child. As Damien drove, Mark would point to strange billboards and read them in weird accents trying to make her laugh, or make shapes out of the clouds, poking Sam when she tried to make a dinosaur out of his horse-drawn carriage. They played the letter game nonstop, keeping track of who won each game (Sam was currently ahead by two games).
The three of them ate junk food from gas stations and stopped at rest areas and talked late into the night, just like Sam imagined.

Summary
He's a sellout in a stupid suit, doing shows for rich idiots on a cruise ship. Jack used to be cool; he used to be kind of like her, stealing from tourists to survive before becoming a part of something bigger. Now, he looks like he's going to start telling her to stay in school and don't do drugs.
Or, June slowly accepts that Jack is actually pretty chill. Also, she has an inexplicable urge to beat his ass. She's pretty sure this is what it feels like to have an older brother.

"Liar."
The word comes out as a low, broken hiss. Jack's face is draining of color by the second, his fingers pressed so firmly against the wall that he's surprised it's not crumbling from the pressure, but he lifts his chin defiantly. "You're…you're lying. No truce. Liar. There's nothin' in it for you, and you want us caught, so—no." He bares his teeth. "Not givin' them up. Gonna have to—to drag me out."
"I'm not lying, kid, I'm on your side—"
"You—you chased me down here." Jack's eyes narrow, sharp beneath the haze of agony. "Not on my side. I'm not giving you anything."
...
Dylan's perfect plan goes a little bit haywire when the fall down the garbage chute ends with Jack being too injured to walk. He pivots, of course, because he always does—but the Horsemen think their youngest member is dead, and Jack thinks that it's his fault that everything went wrong, and Dylan just hopes someone will listen to him long enough to make sense of this.
They're the Horsemen, though. They'll make it out of this just fine.
