But, on Jin Ling's thirteenth birthday she reunites with the only man who made her feel she was worthy of a life of her own. With rumors of Wei Wuxian's reincarnation afloat and a race against time to save Mo Xuanyu, Wen Qing embarks on a journey to discover the truth and save her family.

In short, Wen Qing adopted gremlins aka Jin Ling and Mo Xuanyu and has to spend the entire book protecting them. Canon-divergence, but still follows the major plot events. -
