Shuri: Hey

Peter has been staring at the text for ages. What could it mean? How should he respond?

Not to worry Ned comes to the rescue.

Work Text:

Shuri: Hey

Peter was staring at the text on his phone. It arrived like five minutes ago but he felt like it was staring back at him for eternity. He jumped up in his seat when Ned’s hand landed on his shoulder.

“Bad conscience?” he sat down next to him to the library table. Someone shushed him so he lowered his voice.

“Look at this,” Peter showed him his phone.

“The girl from Wakanda?” Ned asked and tried to scroll up but this was the first text she has sent. Peter grabbed the phone from him in fear of him accidentally touching something, or sending something.

“The fricking Princess of Wakanda,” he pressed his lips in a line and stared at Ned. He nodded with acknowledgement. “Princess,” Peter articulated and shook his head. This deserved a way bigger reaction than that.

“Dude you hang out with Captain America and Ironman on a daily basis,” he whispered. “This is not that big of a deal in comparison,” Peter gave up. This really was a big deal in his opinion.

“What do you think it means?” he turned the phone to him again.

“I might be wrong, but I think it is a standard greeting in the English language,” Ned answered.

“But why did she send it?” he buried his face in his hands.

“To start a conversation?” Ned opened a notebook with the History homework, showing how much of a priority he thought this drama really was.

“And what do I respond?” he shook Ned to get his attention back. He looked desperate.

“Don’t shit your pants, help is here,” he finally gave in and moved his chair closer to get a better look. He took the phone from him and typed. Before Peter had time to react he hit send.

Peter: Hi

“Ned,” he exclaimed triggering some shushing from the librarian desk.

“If I have left you to do it, you would have never sent it,” he tried to get back to his homework. Peter’s response was cut by the ping of the phone.

Shuri: The new suit is looking dope 😉

“You’re welcome,” Ned gave him an ‘all this is thanks to me’ look.

“Ned,” Peter looked more confused than he should have. “I don’t have a new suit. I am working on a new prototype in Tony’s lab, but that is it,” for once he typed on his own.

Peter: Thanks, but I thought those were on the closed Stark Industries server 😅

Shuri: They are 🙃

The two boys looked at each other.

“Damn, she is good,” Peter was impressed. The few times they have met it was usually a matter of life and death, so they haven’t got the chance to talk about tech at all. But she always seemed to have the coolest tech.

Shuri: I have some upgrade ideas for you

Shuri: If you wanna talk it over sometimes

Peter scratched the back of his neck with a long sigh.

“I don’t understand you,” Ned shook his head at him. “This is great!”

“Women confuse me,” he huffed. “Does she want to talk about my suit or does she want to hang out? Maybe she just wants to point out my mistakes…”

Shuri: My jet lands in 2 hours, we can get Starbucks ☕️

The text stopped his spiralling.

Peter: Sounds good 👍🏻

Ned typed that and Peter had to tear it out of his hand.

“Dude,” he got another hush. “dude,” he repeated in a quieter voice. “A thumbs-up, really? You are really messing up my chances.”

“Your chances for what?” Ned rolled his eyes.

“She is like really gorgeous,” Peter kept staring at the phone. Next moment he was scared shitless by the little text bubble appearing showing that she was typing.

Shuri: Disneyland looks cool too

Peter: It is great there this time of the year

“And I am the one messing up your chances?” Ned groaned. Peter was truly a lost cause.

Shuri: I upgrade your suit – you take me to Disneyland

Shuri: That’s the deal, Spidey

“Oh my god,” Peter looked at the text on his normal phone calling him Spiderman.

“Oh my god,” Ned sounded more excited. “That is definitely a date.”

Peter knew he was right. And he also knew what he had to do.

Peter: Can’t wait 😄

New message to Tony Stark

Peter: Hey, can I borrow some money?”

Peter: It’s for a date

Irondad: I am on my way!!!!!!!
