These Nights I Have With You

Summary:

Art done by the fabulous and talented scandalcabbage and writing done by mysteriousinvalue. Prompt: Lena and Kara go stargazing.

Work Text:

Kara opened the balcony door to Lena’s office and before she could say anything, her wife spoke.

“I’m sorry that I’m running late, I had to put some finishing touches on a scientific journal.” Kara smiled, walking over so she could wrap her arms around the CEO from behind.

“Don’t be sorry, take your time.” She kissed her cheek and walked about the room. It wasn’t uncommon for Lena to be late to things considering how busy she was at L-Corp and she couldn’t complain since their time would get interrupted so she could go be Supergirl somewhere. It had taken a long time to get where they were. A lot of compromising. Saturday nights were their own, where they agreed that anything after a certain hour would just be them. Strings had to be pulled on both sides but these nights were something that they both had given to each other, respectfully.

“Done.” Lena finished typing and closed her laptop. “I made sure that everything is with the driver so we could make a quick getaway once you arrived.” She pulled her blazer off the back of her chair and walked over to the reporter.

“Oh, right. It’s chauffeur night.” Kara turned to give her a hug.

“I’m starting to think that you forget on purpose just so you can wear your suit.” Kara chuckled into the nape of her neck and pulled back to give her a kiss.

“Is that a complaint, I hear?” Lena blushed wildly and bit at her lip.

“Never. However, I did bring you clothes so it would do you well to change. With how reckless you are, it’s a miracle that people haven’t caught on that I’m dating both Kara Danvers and Supergirl.”

“Oh, come on. I’m stealthy.” She scoffed, tightening her hold on the small of her back.

“You’re about as stealthy as gunfire.” Kara pouted and the brunette kissed her one more time as she reached for her hand. “Let’s go. Francis has been waiting for twenty minutes now.”

“Oh, but using the same chauffeur doesn’t put us at risk?”

“Darling, not when you change. So change. I’ll set the security.” Lena reached into one of the bookshelves and handed her her clothes and Kara sighed.

Kara threw the bag over her shoulder and reached out to help Lena get out of the car. They began walking up the slope of the hill and Kara kept glancing back to check when the car would leave.

“Can I now?” She said, once the car was far enough into the distance.

“We can walk. I changed my shoes.” Kara huffed again.

“But it’s late and the grass is dewey.” Lena shook her head and hid her laugh behind her hand. “It just takes so much longer and I don’t want to miss the meteor shower tonight.” Lena let out a full bodied laugh. Her partner had always been the impatient one. “Two seconds, I promise.”

“Okay, okay. But just this once. You don’t need to use your superpowers every time.” Kara grinned ear to ear and swooped her up to the spot they usually sat. “See?” The blonde wiggled her eyebrows. “So much faster.” They laid a blanket down and pulled the other out, leaving the food till their stomachs called for it. They laid next to each other, hand in hand. The week’s worth of stress melted away as they watched the sky. Somewhere along the way their hands wandered, eyes still concentrated on meteors but maintaining a generous amount of touch. The reporter sighed when Lena’s lips met her neck.

“I love you, you know that?” Lena said against her ear. Kara raised up onto her elbow and intertwined her fingers with the beautiful woman in front of her.

“I do. Sometimes I can’t believe it. That we are here. Together.” Kara looked at her endearingly and brought their joined hands to her lips. “You are everything I’ve ever wanted.” Lena sat up, pushing blonde tendrils behind her ear and cupping the back of her neck.

“I wasn’t sure if I could have anything remotely close to this and to be here with you just--” the sharpness in her voice rose and Kara kissed her forehead, to her nose, and down to her lips.

“I’ve always loved you. Your soul draws me to you. I don’t know what I would do without you.” Tears fall from her cheeks and Kara brings her in, holding her close against her chest. “I’m always going to love you.” Kara wiped away the wetness of her cheeks and any tears that followed. “C’mere babe.” She reached down to guide her against her side. “I can’t believe you agreed to be my wife and I am so, so thankful.” She presses a kiss to the crown of her head, stroking her hair until her body stops shaking. “I couldn’t be more lucky.”

“Neither could I.” Lena let her index finger trace down the curve of her jaw and along her lips. The dark haired woman tentatively leaned in till their foreheads met and rocked aside till Kara met her lips once, twice, and the third on her cheek.

“I want to remember this with you.” Kara tugged at her side, leaving a chaste kiss on her lips before finally pulling her against her side. They both looked up and watched a meteor fall, gasping in its presence. “Like I want to remember everything else.”
