    Long ago people believed that it was bad luck to have a woman on board a ship, so ruthless and superstitious sailors throw women off to the sea.

    One real story though, is that when women are thrown off board, their legs stick together, they grow fins and gills, and they get filled with so much hatred and pain it leads them to a new life as a creature of the sea.

    Which is what happened to Annie Leonhart when she was separated from her father at sea.
