Chapter Text
"Yang!"
She was on the ground at the campus of Beacon.
She needed to find Yang.
Yang had left her with a bunch of strangers and that just wouldn't do for her fears.
Whenever Yang was gone for longer than minutes she would start to get uncomfortable for her and hours and days were death sentences for her. No matter what she had to be nearby her.
Things tended to go wrong when she was without her.
It was why she followed Yang even when she went to that bar in Vale, if she hadn’t gotten the biggest reprimand for even stepping foot in the building before Yang finished blowing it up.
Those were the good times.
“Yang!” She had just been left by herself.
And she had just fallen over into the luggage of someone else.
And… they haven’t said anything?
Some woman in a white outfit was constantly muttering to herself about something, the more that Ruby looked at her she noticed things about her. She was holding on to some type of sword, actually she was more like clutching onto the thing like a lifeline.
Maybe it was hers like Yang was Ruby’s and if that was the case then they even had something to talk about.
Then again…
“Have we met before?”
“Excuse me!?”
Oops.
Wait one more second!
“Have we?”
Not an immediate rejection… She could work with that!
The other woman was a bit confused as she wrapped an arm around her yet she didn’t push her off to pick up the dust, leaving that for the butlers as they both walked off somehow not needing to introduce themselves once again.
Like two friends meeting once again in a lifetime.
Being around Weiss was definitely something else.
For the most part she seemed to be holding back what she truly felt sometimes at her dumb questions as though they were the most harmful things in the world, meanwhile she continued to clutch her weapon.
The weapon that was nowhere near her own yet seemed to be really interesting to Weiss. She just couldn’t see how as it wasn’t even a gun!
When she pointed out her own thoughts she just replied. “Dolt.”
That was a lot more affectionate than expected for when you met a total stranger but they already seemed to respect each other at some sort of level.
So when they found themselves in the forest together she had tried to show off the best qualities of herself which only led to another soft smile and another. “Dolt.”
“What does that mean?”
“You really are a dolt…”
That even extended to when she left her by herself to deal with all the Grimm. And it wasn’t her best moment as she expected to have to help Weiss yet she was surprised with what she did afterwards.
Picture this.
One Weiss Schnee was surrounded and her super bestie! Was nowhere to be found leaving her with no other option than to pull out the secret she had been hiding since the beginning. So while she was in the bushes Weiss was fighting them all.
She moved as if she had been practicing for years for this moment and when she was surprisingly hit by one of them she didn’t even flinch! Instead she looked at the Grimm with murderous intent and did something cool with her sword.
With the murderous intent she summoned a knight to deal with the final Grimm.
“Wow! How long have you been able to do that!?” Ruby excitedly asked getting all in Weiss’s personal space.
She just stared through her.
"Shouldn't there be a fire right now?"
"...What?"
Weiss shook her head and she was suddenly back with her yet looking lost as if a couple moments ago hadn't even happened.
They both made their way to the clearing with the rest of the students and she fell in line with the rest of them to face the Grimm.
The actual fight was surprisingly easy.
In fact it seemed a bit too easy.
The whole thing seemed rehearsed for them to succeed in the easiest possible way. They just fell together into two separate groups. And they seemed to be able to coordinate with unparalleled precision.
"Team RWBY led by Ruby Rose!"
This was one of the best moments in her life!
Made even better by the teammates she now had. They had barely been together for long but she could feel the pull of adventure with the four of them all together especially now that Yang and Weiss were with her on the same team.
She had an excuse to be close to Yang and Weiss was generally a nice person to her, the only person of this was Blake but she would get to know her well over time.
“Ruby?” She turned around to see Weiss.
“Yes Bestie?” Weiss hid another one of her smiles.
She motioned for Ruby to follow and she did as they found some empty corner to talk with one another about what they had been feeling during their time with each other.
“I just feel that it was too easy.”
That wasn’t what she expected from Weiss especially when she had the same concerns as her. The two of them simmered in the tension of something more going on between them. Not them but with everyone else around them.
“I’m going to be the best teammate you’ve ever had..” Weiss then got that look once again.
It was a nice sentiment but out of left field for the relationship they had with each other.
Another shake of head and they were back to their awkward relationship with them both not knowing how to talk with each other without pushing each other’s buttons.
“Coffee?” A mug was held out in an outstretched hand.
“Sure.” She took the thing despite not being the biggest fan of the taste of the plain black stuff.
“Hey this tastes great!”
“Of course it does, I loaded it with tons of sugar.” Ruby took more sips of her coffee.
“How did you know?” Her coffee tastes were only known to Yang and her dad.
“It just seemed right.”
“Hey, Weiss.”
“Yes?” Weiss leaned closer to Ruby.
The two of them grew closer as they waited for Ruby to find the words she wanted to say. Yet when she was with her the words seemed to fall out of her mind to never be recovered again.
“Never mind it wasn’t important.”
Together without anyone else the two of them felt happiest right here and now. It didn’t feel totally right with just the two of them but it was enough for them at this very moment.
Finishing her coffee she and Weiss left to go back to their dorm room and sleep.
It was going to be a really interesting year especially with them seemingly knowing each other.
