“Are there ants?” Draco asked and popped another miniature treacle tart into his mouth. He wasn’t as big of a fan as Harry was, but he did like it. It was a good dessert. Especially in this miniature, picnic-appropriate form.
“What?” Harry glanced up at him from where he was studiously carding through the grass near the edge of the picnic blanket.
“Are there ants?” Draco repeated. “You keep brushing off the grass.”
“Oh, no,” Harry quickly shook his head and then moved away from the spot he’d been sitting on. he sprawled over Draco’s legs and propped his head on his hand so he could start rifling through the patch of grass near Draco’s thigh. “I’m just looking for something.”
“Something important?” Draco asked and then picked up his glass of lemonade. He also took another of the mini treacle tarts and offered it to his boyfriend. Harry just opened his mouth, and the tart was deposited inside.
“Thanks,” Harry murmured after chewing. “Nothing important. But it’d be nice to find it.”
“It’s not a snake, is it?”
“No.” Harry had a difficult relationship with snakes. On one hand, they had been his only companions during long gardening sessions before he knew he was a wizard. On the other hand, basilisk and Nagini soured their reputation spectacularly. Not to mention the whole Duelling club disaster and how negatively everyone reacted to him being a Parselmouth.
He couldn’t speak Parseltongue anymore, but he did sometimes understand the snakes when they spoke. It was like he hadn’t heard or spoken the language in years so he only half-remembered it. But it didn’t matter – he wasn’t looking for a snake.
He focused back on the grass as well as Draco’s fingers when they began carding through his hair sometime later. They were cold from the icy lemonade he’d been holding before but the coolness was nice against his sun-warmed scalp. He smiled unconsciously.
His smile widened as soon as he spotted what he’d been looking for. He gently pulled away the grass around it until there was just a single stack of it. He plucked it with his fingers and then rolled off Draco’s legs.
“Look, babe,” he said, offering his treasure to Draco. “A four-leafed clover.”
“For me?” Draco took the clover, twirling it between his pointer and thumb.
“Yeah. For luck,” Harry explained with an easy shrug.
“What do I need luck for?” Draco asked dubiously. “I snatched the Most Desirable Bachelor in the country.”
Harry chuckled. “Yeah, but with some luck, you get to keep me!”
Draco laughed and pulled him closer, careful not to grip the clover in his hand too tightly. Harry kissed him readily after pulling himself onto Draco’s lap and for a while, there was nothing but the sun, the scent of wildflowers, and the feeling of their lips, soft and tender against one another.
When breathing became necessary they pulled apart only for Draco to wrap his arms tight around Harry’s waist and kiss his cheek.
“You’re such a dork,” he said with a fond, fond smile.
“But I’m your dork,” Harry countered. “And you can have me forever if you keep that clover with you.”
“I’ll press it and put it in my wallet,” Draco said and earned Harry’s beautiful beaming smile in return.
“That sounds great,” Harry whispered and then kissed him again, a bit more deeply.
