Work Text:
Clint sat in his car in the parking lot, refusing to get out of his car. It was his first day at a new school. Not the first day, however, since his parents were inconsiderate enough to decide that they would be moving across the country in the middle of the school year. They obviously didn’t care about his sanity or how much of a fucking idiot he was gonna look like when he just suddenly strolled into his homeroom, where everyone already knew everyone, and he was the deaf weirdo showing up.
Clint watched his new classmates all walk past. Thankfully, every one of them completely ignored his car and the fact that it was probably time for him to get out; to make his way to the principal’s office to register and get the customary “welcome to the school” talk. So, Clint spent a few more minutes psyching himself up for what he already knew would be an awful day, when he heard the roar of several motorcycles coming towards him.
Great, it’s one of those schools.
Clint decided not to stare as the motorcycle group all pulled up, and he finally got out of his car. Clint walked as quickly as he could, keeping his eyes on the ground so that he didn’t have to make eye contact with anyone unless he actually needed to. He maybe should have looked where he was going a little more, and actually concentrated on what he was doing, as a car came careening through the car park and clipped his side, sending him and his bag sprawling on the floor.
Clint laid there for a few moments, staring at the sky, wishing that this was one of those embarrassing dreams that people had in the movies and he was just about to wake up. There was no hope of that as he heard the bell ring for class, and the loud sound didn’t have him shooting up in bed, breathing heavily, and thanking God that it hadn’t really happened. No. Clint definitely wasn’t that lucky.
Just as he was about to roll over and inspect the damage to himself and his belongings - he didn’t give a shit about the car, he hoped it was broken to shit - the sunlight was blocked by someone leaning over him. As Clint’s eyes managed to focus on the person, his mouth went completely dry as he looked up at the single, most gorgeous guy he had ever laid eyes on.
Clint was locked on his steely blue eyes for far longer than socially acceptable, but he couldn’t help but get lost in them. The guy’s hair was long and swept over to one side, like he knew exactly how it made him look. When Clint turned his attention back to the guy, rather than just ogling his stupidly handsome face, the guy was smirking and holding out a hand for Clint to take. As Clint was pulled up to a sitting position, the guy held out one of Clint’s hearing aids that must have flown out during the impact.
Great, just what I need.
“You don’t wanna be losing this,” the guy said, and fuck , even his voice was enough to make Clint melt.
“You’d be surprised how many of these I go through,” Clint replied, putting his aid back in. “It’s like the universe doesn’t want me to hear anything with the number of times I lose them.”
The guy laughed. “Well, maybe you should be a little more careful…”
“Clint,” Clint finished, knowing that that was where the conversation was going.
“Bucky.”
Bucky held out his hand again and Clint took it, easily being hauled up. Despite being shorter than Clint, Bucky sure as hell had the strength to pull his weight. As he stumbled to his feet, Clint winced.
“Do you need to go to the nurse’s office?” Bucky asked. “I can show you, if you need?” Bucky flashed him a smile and ran his hands through his hair, flipping it to the other side like some fucking male model or something.
Clint waved Bucky off, needing to get out of the situation before he possibly exploded and embarrassed himself even more. “Nah, just bruises on top of existing bruises, I’m good.”
“Hey, Barnes! We gotta get to class!” someone called out from the school doors.
“I gotta go, I’m guessing you’re heading to the principal’s office?” Bucky asked.
“What? You think I need to report my hit and run?” Clint said, trying to act as cool as possible.
“Nah, you’re new here, so-”
“That obvious?” Clint cut in.
“A little.” Bucky picked up Clint’s bag and handed it over. “I’d remember a face like yours around here,” Bucky winked before he turned and walked away.
“Holy shit-nuggets,” Clint muttered as he walked toward his new school.
His trip to the principal’s office was not completely what he expected. Apparently, the man had seen Clint’s unfortunate collision and already had the school nurse waiting for him. Clint hadn’t actually seen what he looked like in a mirror, but the band-aid-happy woman covered him. She said it was to stem the bleeding, but he was pretty sure that she just wanted to embarrass him further because he obviously wasn’t already doing enough of that by himself; he apparently needed help!
Clint was eventually allowed to leave the office, where he was handed his class schedule by the office assistant and pointed in the direction of his homeroom. Clint stood outside the door, taking one last deep breath before he opened the door and walked in. As the door slammed behind him, he felt every eye turn toward him.
“Class, I want you all to welcome Clint Barton, our new transfer student,” his teacher said, a little too over-enthusiastically. “I hope you’ll all make him feel very welcome.” The class stayed silent. The teacher obviously expected some kind of movement or applause or something. Clint sighed in embarrassment - this was apparently gonna be a thing for today. “Why don’t you take a seat, Clint.”
Clint turned his attention from the teacher to the rest of the room and scanned for a spare seat. The only one he could see was partially occupied by the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on.
What the fuck-knuckle is with this school? Do they hire models to come in and pretend to be students to distract us or something?!
She was reclining in her own chair, with her head back, and staring at the ceiling. Her long, red hair was wrapped around to one side and draped over her shoulder in a loose braid. She wore a leather jacket, even though it was probably way too hot for it, but she wore it so damn well that it didn’t even matter. Her painted-on skinny jeans were tucked into clunky combat boots, which happened to be propped up on Clint’s new desk. All in all, she honestly looked like she could kick his ass, and he was pretty sure that just made her more appealing.
It wasn’t until he was standing beside his desk that she took her feet down, pushing herself up to sit a bit straighter. Clint gave an appreciative nod as he sat down, not trusting his voice around her... not that she’d even want to talk to him anyway. There was out of his league, then there was her. Clint just kept his eyes trained on the band-aids that were wrapped around his fingers, trying not to pick at them.
“You hit the deck pretty hard out there,” she said, eyes roaming over Clint’s battered and bandaged form.
Clint froze as her voice washed over him. “Yeah, well, I like to provide impromptu entertainment for my classmates,” Clint said with a roll of his eyes, because of course, the two most gorgeously unattainable people had seen it and were talking to him. What is my shit-storm of a life!? “Probably get shipped off to the circus any day now.”
“Well, it certainly was entertaining,” she smirked. “I’m Natasha.”
“Clint,” he replied, giving a smile that he hoped didn’t look as pained as he was sure it actually was.
Natasha let out a small hum, and as she was about to say something else, the bell rang. “Well, I guess I’ll see you around, Clint.” As she walked past him, she stopped and turned around, leaning in on his desk. “And if you’re gonna do any more entertaining for classmates, make sure you let me get a front-row seat.” Natasha licked her lips as she looked him up and down one last time before she stood and left the room.
Clint stared at her ass back as she left. “What the fuckery is going on!?”
The beginning of Clint’s day went as any other would: He found his locker and went to his classes, making sure to sit at the back, if he could, so that he could hide as much as his tall ass as possible. His classmates were kind enough, talking to him if and when they needed to, but he didn’t exactly have friend requests blowing up on his phone, yet. He didn’t care too much, these things took time, and it wasn’t like he was a complete pariah... so, what was the problem?
At lunch, however, he made a heartbreaking discovery.
Bucky and Natasha were very obviously a couple, judging by the way they spent their lunch break attached at the mouth. Honestly, he didn’t know why he was so shocked and upset about it. They both had this stunningly terrifying look about them, like they wouldn’t even bother to hide your mangled body. It was no wonder they were together in their happy little murder-strut bubble.
The one thing that confused Clint, though, was that he constantly felt like he was being watched. And when he was able to look around to see who it was, it was either one or both of them. A couple of times, when they were together, one would lean in and whisper to the other before their eyes returned to Clint with a renewed fervor.
Clint felt uncomfortably hot whenever their eyes bore into his body, and really, they were giving him some fucked up mixed signals. Because there was absolutely no way that they were interested like that , not when they had each other. Each time, Clint shook it off, telling himself that they were probably just making fun of his vehicular acrobatics that they had seen that morning, and nothing else.
At the end of the day, Clint walked out of the doors and instantly spotted Bucky and Natasha over by their motorcycles. Of course they were the ones with them, what with all their leather and smouldering brooding, they wouldn’t be driving a car. All of a sudden, Clint was desperate to get to his car so that he could hide and forget about the day, but obviously he hadn’t learned his lesson from that morning. Just as he was about to step into the road, someone on their bicycle flew past, their handlebars catching onto his bag and pulling him straight onto his back.
Clint laid there - again - for far too long; although, this time, he was trying to regain the breath that had been knocked out of him from the impact. He knew he looked like a complete and utter asshat still laying here, but he kinda hoped that people just wouldn’t be looking down or that maybe the ground would open up and swallow him whole. As if it were history repeating itself, the sunlight was blocked by a familiar face.
“You ok there, Clint?” Bucky asked, kneeling beside him and holding out a hand.
“Yeah, just having a craptastic sense of deja vu down here, nothing to worry about,” Clint groaned. He had spent way too much time on this road and it was only his first day.
“Come on,” Bucky gripped Clint’s hand and hauled him off the ground.
Clint stumbled, and he expected to land on his ass again, but was somehow caught by Natasha. “Steady there, Clint.”
“What can I say, I did promise you a front-row seat. Did you enjoy the show?” Clint asked.
Natasha raised an eyebrow with a smile. “I did.” She then turned to Bucky and wrapped an arm around his middle. “Can we keep him?” she asked, reaching out and curling a fist in the bottom of Clint’s shirt.
Clint’s eyes were trained on the long, painted fingernails currently brushing against parts of him that they really shouldn’t as he thought over what Natasha had said. He didn’t actually have much time to think as Bucky’s arm wrapped around his waist and pulled him against them. Clint couldn’t help the small gasp that escaped his lips when he felt the two of them pressed against him. Natasha’s hand unclenched from his shirt and wrapped around his waist, just above Bucky’s, and Clint honest-to-god shivered at the contact.
Bucky hummed. “What do you say?”
Clint laughed nervously, having no idea what the fuck was going on. In his degenerate mind, it sounded like they wanted him, but there was no way that was true. “What? Is this like the ASPCA? Are you adopting your own circus monkey for home entertainment?” Clint was nervous as fuck, and his brain seemed to only come up with this dumbass possibility.
Bucky laughed and the sound rumbled through Clint way more than it should have. “I can think of some kind of home entertainment we could do, the three of us.”
When Bucky’s and Natasha’s hands both tightened around his waist, Clint couldn’t help the noise that he made - which he would absolutely deny, if either of them said anything. Bucky looked at Natasha and winked at her before he turned and pressed his lips to Clint’s. Clint, still not expecting it, gasped and Bucky immediately took advantage and slipped his tongue into Clint’s mouth. The kiss was possessive and if Clint wasn’t currently being held up by the pair, he was sure his knees would have buckled.
Before he could get completely lost in the kiss, Natasha’s hand crept between them and gripped Clint’s jaw, breaking his kiss with Bucky so that she could pull him down for one of her own. Clint wasn’t completely ready for the movement and almost tripped, falling into the kiss, but Bucky’s strong arms held firm, keeping him steady as Clint and Natasha kissed.
When Clint pulled back from the kiss with Natasha, he looked between the two, still disbelieving.
“Oh, yeah, you’re definitely coming home with us,” Bucky said with a smirk, wiping Natasha’s lipstick from Clint’s bottom lip.
Clint stared, dumbfounded, and just nodded. He was gonna have to find the driver of that car and thank him. Maybe being a complete and utter disaster was a good thing because it had certainly worked today!
