Chapter Text
Harvey and Jim have been sitting in front of the red apartment building for the past hour across the street.
"Jim, am kinda shocked you pick a case like this?" replies Harvey taking a swig of his drink.
Jim flips through his new papers checking the latest news. In bold Mayor in Search for the One, "Whatever do you mean. You the one that keeps calling me a hero. Plus this is our job".
Harvey is correct he never chooses jobs that are related to Littles. This one is especially special since a famous Gotham Little disappears for two days now. This person's house is the last lead.
His partner in crime points at aggressively to the newspaper whiles saying," it's sick those two not only get Mayor but they want a little too".
"Harvey I don't think that's our problem", Jim folds up the paper exiting the car with Harvey that trying his hardest to keep up.
Harvey grabs Jim shoulder stopping them in the middle of the street, "Hey I didn't mean to strike a nerve"
"No nerve was stuck. I just feel if they want a little they can have one. "
"But-!"
"Maybe it will change their perspective."
Harvey leans on the wall as Jim knocks on the civilian door with his knuckles. He pauses for a moment hearing someone jog down the steps. Harvey takes another swig of his flask looking at Jim up and down. It was almost unnerving compared to a caretaker's gaze. Harvey is also known as Captain Harvey now is an alpha male, like any alpha they create betas to follow their whim. Jim never encounters one because his field of being a detective is unpeeling to them. Alpha males are usually doctors, investors, or owners of anything that leads.
"I never asked you what your status is. Matter of fact you never talk about it? The reason am saying this is that if I make you uncomfortable-"
"No. And isn't that personal?", Jim lets out a nervous chuckle before pulling out his badge for the young men blonde short-haired man that opens the door in blue satin shorts but no shirt with the lollipop in his mouth.
"Detective Gordon and Detective Bullock....we came for information on little Ethylene that went missing recently?" Jim said as the men starts to signs Welcome motion them inside.
The living room was riddle with stuffed animals in piles by entrances with pale walls and basic furniture of couch and television playing blues clues. Harvey takes off his hat and takes a look around the photo stand perch by the door. The only weird thing is the water tank fills in the center of the room.
"You got a little are something Mr?" Harvey says picking up a picture.
"No, only me. These are mine. The name is Constantine but my fellow littles call me John, " replies the owner snatching the photo from glaring Harvey.
"Your partner is a gerliming idiot ain't he little", says Constantine placing the picture back in place.
"You know what, I'll take lookout outside the area. I feel like I just been insulted without knowing it," bites back Harvey slamming the front door.
Jim lets out a sigh", Sorry for my partner he's just furious with the new Mayor. He means well ".
Constantine lets out a chuckle in-between the lollipop, "Typical alpha. Doesn't know difference between space and overbearing."
"We can come back another time? You seem busy," says Jim as Constantine wraps an arm around his shoulder pulling out his lollipop in the shape of an oval key.
"You can ask me anything you want little one now because my caretaker will bite anyone else when he gets home tomorrow ".
John takes a look at Jim up and down before flicking a card in his hand and placing it in Jim's pocket. Better yet here's my card...call me at 8. You'll do good there".
"If this is a ploy!"
John raises his hands in defensive, "Not a ploy Detective Jim. Just an invite."
Jim lets go of John flicking the card back and forth raising an eyebrow at him. While John just winks and places the lollipop in his mouth.
"Other advice. I don't mean to pry but..." "You already have" replies Jim with a sigh. "Well Littles are made to have time in their space. My friend you could use some. signs John picking up a plushie blue shark in his arms.
Jim knows their truth in his words but to do that he has to be vulnerable to people in his circle. They will order a trial and he could even lose his job for withholding. Just a couple more days and he will do it. Maybe. There is information on suppression that could help with his urges. He would not have to think about finding someone when he enters the little space. Everything is perfectly legal.
"Lovely offer for a little but I think I need to finish this. Thank you for the card, Constantine"
John watches as Jim shuts the door behind him shouting "Not fucking fair mate, running away from your problems through work. I give great cuddle!"
"Bloody hell is there something besides fish to eat in this place..."
Harvey snaps his greases fingers in Jim's face as he takes another bite of cheeseburger. Jim sips some of his cola watching people pass by to bar in groups. One couple wore matching attire to their little in the booth beside them. Loud and happy watching the little ones make a mess of themselves. He needs to focus on something other than littles.
"You okay Jim? You've been quiet since we left that bitch Joey house."
"Constantine...He just said something that clicks. That's all" replies back Jim handing Harvey a napkin that Harvey just sits to the side.
Jim flips through his phone applying Constantine's phone number to his contacts ignoring Harvey's rant to get a new phone that doesn't bend.
"Always a breath of fresh air Captain Harvey".
"That's right. Hopefully the case is finishing worthy", says Harvey rolling his eyes.
"Just make sure your up at 8".
