Work Text:
"Chifuyu." You called him.
He's busy feeding the stray cats so he just looks up to you with a "hmm?" in response.
"Whenever you tie my hair... Whenever we feed these cats, whenever we share yakisoba. And whenever we hang out and study together..." You stopped for a moment, feeling a lump stuck in your throat. "Do you get deja vu?" You continued.
Chifuyu, as confused as he is stopped what he's doing, turned to you.
"What is it again Y/N? I don't think I followed your words." He looked at you like a lost puppy. That, that's the look you adored. One of his aspects that you loved about him. Yes, loved.
You shook your head before avoiding his gaze.
"Nothing."
"No Y/N. Look at me, I know you've got something in your mind right now." He took your face in front of him, placing both of his warm hands in your cheeks.
"Please, tell me." His soothing voice made your stupid heart thump faster than it is already.
Maybe you didn't loved him. You love him until now, and you're still madly in love with him. But how can you face the truth if you're running away again?
You held his hands, not wanting to let go as you close your eyes.
"You... You get deja vu, do you?"
"Deja vu?"
You chuckled a little, confusing him even more. "I remind you of him, don't I?" You remove his hands away from your face.
"You remind me of him? What are you saying all of a sudden..." Chifuyu mumbled.
"Baji. I remind you of Baji, right?" You stand up, so did he.
"Y/N! What are you saying? It's not!"
You turned your back on him as you try to stop your tears from falling. This is it, you're finally facing the truth. This is for the best, right? For the both of you.
"Y/N..." Chifuyu called when all he receive were your silence. He reached your hand.
"Please look at me..." And so you did, and you saw it again. His expression. That expression.
"All the things that we did, Chifuyu. I know, it all reminds you of him." Hot liquids started falling down in your cheeks. He watched it, wanting to stop those for you. But there's something that's stopping him from doing it.
"You get deja vu. Do you?" You shoved his hands away.
"Y/N, that's not it..." Was all he could utter.
"Then tell me Chifuyu. Why would you look at me with the same expression you gave him, huh? Why'd you call out his name when you're drunk instead of mine? Why'd you cry in front of me while calling me with his name?!"
He looked down, as if a realization had hit him, no it didn't just hit him. It slapped him. Every words you throw to him. He realized how horrible he is, he realized how hard it is for you.
Your sobs became uncontrollable, and he can only listen to your pain, with nothing he can do.
"Y/N. I'm sorry." Was all that he can say. Because after all, what you said were all nothing but the truth.
"Yeah as you should be." You gave him one last glance before turning away. Heart still aching from the confrontation.
He couldn't do anything but to kneel on the ground. Been left shattered by the person whom he thought he loved.
"Don't leave me, please." A soft whisper came from him as he stared at your back. Feeling the deja vu you said. Staring at how you walk away from him just like how Baji did. Maybe what he felt for you were the remains of his feelings towards his former captain. Or may be he really did loved you. As he didn't saw the splitting image of him in you, what he saw is you finally letting go of all this. Finally free from the shackles of living from someone's memory.
