Summary
The house wasn't much to look at, just a standard suburban domicile with an open carport and not enough windows, sitting unassumingly on a quiet street somewhere in semi-rural America. But it had secrets and an agenda - not for the people who inhabit it, but for the ones who live next door.
When Tate and her kids moved out to start their lives over, Carly and her kids moved in. The drug lord next door was long gone, replaced by a nightmare not much better - a divorced suburban housewife with entitlement issues and a yappy vicious dog that hates kids and men. When it bites Carly's young son and sets off a series of events that rapidly escalate from minor annoyance to federal offense, our beset-upon heroine finds herself with no choice but to enlist the aid of a legal professional.
Meet Thomas Dowd, twice disbarred and desperately in need of clients to reestablish his all but defunct law practice. He has a lot to offer the furious woman sitting in his waiting room holding her whining child - but a good solid defense might not be one of them. And since Carly's ex husband left her with nothing but the house, she can't exactly pay for his services.
