Work Text:
"After the massacre on Valo at least one good thing sprung from the disastrous Republic Fair, young love." The voice of a reporter resounded in the holo-news flickering in Kip's room.
"The sons of chancellor Soh and mayor Lariin were seen kissing at the Lonisa City Spaceport '' the reporter continued as footage of his goodbye kiss to Jom was shown.
Kip turned the hologram off.
“Have you seen the news?” He asked a few moments later on a holo-call with Jom.
“If by have you seen the news you mean ‘have you seen us in the news?’, then yes I have. But it’s not like they hate us, they just want a distraction now that everyone is talking about the attack.”
“I get that, but… it’s just all the attention… it’s… “
“Annoying?”
“Exactly. I was in the public eye before, since my mom is the chancellor of the whole damn Republic, but not on this level.”
“Let them see us, it makes them happy and if it comes hard on hard we could still sneak away again ” Jom suggested with a smirk.
Kip had to laugh at that notion, “Sure, because that worked so well last time.”
Jom shrugged, “We couldn’t have known the Innovator would get attacked and sink into the lake.”
“How is your mom?” Jom asked after an awkward silence.
“Getting better, she still needs to rest but I think she will be on her feet soon.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”
Kip paused for a moment to listen closely to the hologram's background noise, almost as if… “That noise, are you on a ship?”
Kip watched as the corners of Jom’s mouth rose to a smile.
“I’m on my way to Coruscant as we speak.”
Now Kip was smiling too, “You come visit me, all the way from Valo?”
A few hours later Kip was at the spaceport waiting as Jom’s ship landed, he grinned as Jom appeared in the door of the ship and walked down the ramp. Kip walked closer to the ship meeting Jom halfway.
Jom spread his arms, giving Kip a cocky smile and inviting him for a hug, Kip smiled as he swung his arms around his boyfriend.
A few seconds later Kip released from the hug and looked Jom in the eyes.
“You really came all this way just to see me?” he asked, still in disbelief.
“See it as an early gift for Starlight Day, the anniversary of the Starlight Beacon opening ceremony.”
“That is still months away.”
“Like I said, early.” Jom grinned.
Then Jom leaned in for a kiss and Kip kissed him back. It felt so good as his lips touched Jom’s. Kip had to think back to their first kiss back on Valo, here they were kissing at a spaceport again. A different spaceport, a different planet, the same love.
