Pillow Talk

Summary:

Jace's pillow talk could use a little work.

Flufftober Day 13: Pillow Talk

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Jace lays in bed, staring up at the ceiling for a little while. He recently switched himself to overnight patrols so that he could be on the same resting schedule as Simon and Raphael, but it’s taking a bit longer than he’d like to adjust to sleeping during the day with his boyfriends. When he can’t get comfortable lying on his back he turns to his right, facing Raphael.

All of Jace’s shifting around must jostle Simon awake because a moment later he feels an arm wrap around him from Simon’s side to pull him back.

“Can’t sleep?” Simon murmurs, clearly still mostly asleep himself.

“Not really,” Jace admits, sighing. There isn’t another reply, which is how Jace knows Simon already fell back to sleep.

What Jace wouldn’t do to be able to fall in and out of sleep that easily right now.

Now that he’s awake and thinking about it, Jace realizes he’s a little warm, but it’s nearly impossible to slip himself out from under the covers when he’s laying in the middle of Simon and Raphael. He tries anyway and while he does manage to slide Simon’s arm off him without re-waking him, Jace also manages to move enough to wake Raphael up this time.

“Normally it’s Simon who can’t sit still,” Raphael observes.

Hey,” Simon protests, the word muffled into his pillow.

Jace winces. “Sorry,” he says, knowing that neither of them is actually mad at him for waking them up but feeling the need to apologize anyway.

The room is dark - nearly pitch black, with only a soft glow coming from a light in the far corner of the room - and Jace eyes the specially crafted blackout curtains that keep the sun from coming in. They’re the same curtains that line every window of the Dumort, for obvious reasons.

“Do you ever wonder what would happen if the curtains stopped working?” Jace muses aloud. He doesn’t particularly mean to voice the thought as he has it, but he’s tired and the words slip out automatically.

“Your pillow talk could use some work, babe,” Simon says.

“I’d be more concerned about a possible fire,” Raphael admits.

Both of you, honestly!” Simon sounds exasperated, but in that cute, forced way where he isn’t actually surprised that this conversation is happening. “Can we not talk about our potential deaths while we could just be cuddling?”

“¿Porque no los dos?” Jace says, the response another sleep-deprived thought he voices without a filter.

Now it’s Raphael’s turn to sound exasperated. “Normally I think it’s attractive when you attempt Spanish-”

“What do you mean ‘attempt’,” Jace protests indignantly. His Spanish is definitely decent, sometimes even good!

“You try,” Simon consoles. “And that’s what counts.”

Raphael continues on as if Jace and Simon said nothing. “-but why is that the only phrase you’re able to retain?”

Jace huffs and turns so that he’s lying on his back again, staring up at the ceiling instead of either of his boyfriends. He makes it a point to pull his arms in against his side so he isn’t touching Simon or Raphael beside him.

“If we’re just going to gang up on me then I’m not cuddling anyone,” Jace declares, definitely overdramatically. He closes his eyes, determined to force his brain to shut off long enough to fall asleep when he feels pressure against his left side first, and then his right side, as Simon and Raphael press against him to cuddle him instead.

And how is Jace supposed to stubbornly deny Simon when he’s wrapped around Jace’s arm like a koala, or Raphael who places several barely-there kisses along Jace’s jawline before nuzzling against his neck?

Jace shifts his arms so that they wrap around his boyfriends, pulling them closer and allowing the comforting weight of their presence to be all he needs to finally quiet his mind and give in to sleep.
