Words are Precious

Summary:

Lena promises not to use any bad words around the baby anymore, but sometimes she slips up and.. things happen.

Notes:

So sorry for changing my series name so much. Originally ‘the baby on the doorstep’ events was gonna be, like, shit that goes on at midnight but that seemed too consequential. Now I've made it to little things like this.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Attempt #1

Chapter Text

“No, no, no!” Lena shouted at the mess on the floor in her lab. She couldn't help it; she was frustrated she couldn't get anything right.

Concentrating was hard. Picking shit up with magic? Extra hard.

“Damn it! Why don't you just work for once!” she all but screamed, her distress showing in her magic. It was weak, she was weak. It was supposed to be a beautiful, bright colored purple, not a faded blue-looking color.

“Hey.” It was Kara's gentle tone. One she uses when she knows Lena's in no mood. “Tell me what's wrong.”

“I cannot get my magic to work, Kara. I just want to help, that's all.”

Kara nodded. “You do.”

“I do.”

Kara shook her head, half-smiling. That's her “you know something's coming” look. As if on cue, she glanced back at the baby who was entertaining herself by drawing dinosaurs - (something she has picked up on from Kara).

Lena raised her eyebrow, positioning her hands on her hips.

“Lena,” Kara began hesitantly, “I'm not sure you should be using...curse words around the baby,” she said, still watching the little girl.

“Child,” Lena corrected cheekily. “Also, Estrella barely talks. Me cussing is the least of her problems.”

“She's one!” Kara complained. “I was just on the phone with Lucy the other day and you will not believe the amount of curse words she was using!”

Lena covered her mouth to stifle the laugh coming up. Kara was not amused.

“I apologize.”

Her eyes scanned over the one year old who was currently holding the pencil in a fist and...oh no - is that her new pencil Kara took? She didn't want to know. Her two-day old pencil was scribbling half on the floor and half on the paper. Lena couldn't help but cringe.

Besides all that, perhaps Kara was right. Admittedly, she did cuss a whole lot. Especially when a child was around.

Estrella, Lena grumbled thoughtfully.

Setting her materials down, she plastered on a grin and strutted over to the tiny human. This was Kara's job; being all joyous and everything.

“How would you like it if I told you that you and I are going to the park?” she questioned, crouching beside the little artist. Her knees were popping like crazy but things will be fine.

Said baby peered up from her artwork and smiled one of those bubbly smiles Kara likes to blind you with. She thrusted the paper in the younger woman's arms and pointed at the picture. Dinosaurs, how cute.

How Kara thinks that Lucy's- her baby is a mini Lena Luthor is beyond her. They are alike, and Lena has no part in that.

“Want me to come with you?”

“You stay here. Do not get into anything or I'll have your as... assistance! on a platter.”

Kara went full on Alex Danvers on her with that glare.

“You could have just stopped.”

“Yes, you're right. I could have.”

“Why didn't you stop?”

“It didn't sound quite right. ‘I'll have your assistance?’”

“It sounds right to innocent ears!”

“I'm sorry!”

Notes:

Any name suggestions for the baby? Some gave me great ones to consider, but I would like to have more in mind for just in case I continue with this series and think back on what could possibly be Kara and Lena's children(s) name.
