Rain and Comfort (Chilltobember Week 2)

Summary:

Namine gradually goes from rain to sunshine, from her Castle Oblivion days to her revival in Kingdom Hearts III.

Work Text:

Every time someone left Namine, it always rained inside her.

First, it was the Replica Riku.

Sure, she was the one who broke his heart to save Sora, but seeing them going from fighting for her to fighting each other had been too painful.

Friendship was sunshine to the darkness that surrounded Namine in black coats and secrets. To see it cloud over due to her rearranging of Sora's memory was bittersweet.

After Replica Riku left, Sora did as well.

When Larxene told Sora the truth, she braced herself as the light rain of her loneliness started to fall… and suddenly stopped.

Sora's smile let the sun peek through the clouds as he offered her friendship, even after what she did. Even after he went to sleep to regain his memory, his smile was light that gave the black clouds a silver lining.

If Sora was the sun, Riku was the moon.

Since he feared his own darkness and she knew what it was like to be scared of yourself, she decided to become a star and light his way a bit.

Riku walked through darkness towards the road to dawn, and she was alone again.

Then there was Xion, a partly cloudy sky riddled with grey clouds of doubt and the light of orange sunsets.

Namine didn't know her for long, but Xion reminded her of herself. By the time Xion left, filled with grim determination, Namine felt cold as light rain became a few tears.

Later, there was Roxas.

He was a new day, a sunrise. He wanted to form his own light and it hurt Namine to snuff it out and tell him to go back to Sora.

Finally, there was Kairi.

Her light was so dazzling that it took Namine's rain and turned it into rainbows.

It was a beautiful way to disappear into her Other.

Or so she thought.

After a long time, she opened her eyes.

After a long time, she returned to Riku, Sora, Xion, and Roxas, standing fully in the sunshine.
