Summary
Riley Flynn was’t a good boy. He’s pretty sure he’s not a good man, either. Scarred on the inside from a childhood trauma he can’t forget, a drunken accident leaves him outwardly scarred, too. Worse, it forces him back to Crockett Island, a place he swore he’d never return.
An aging Monsignor John Pruitt had let doubt creep in. Death had stolen his first great love and was stealing another before his eyes—slowly and painfully. But he returns to Crockett from a pilgrimage to the Holy Land renewed in the most literal way. “Reborn” as Father Paul, he brings a new covenant to the island.
And the gospel spreads. The island is rife with miracles. Reaching past resentment and across the gulf of time, priest and prodigal meet again and start to heal. For a brief, beautiful moment, Father Paul sees a future with Riley at his right hand, ushering in a new Kingdom.
Like the covenant of Christ, though, an offering is required: a blood sacrifice yet to be made.
