Work Text:
With a sigh, Hadrian resigned himself to another night of little-to-no sleep and slipped outside to release some of the energy that was starting to simmer under his skin.
His frown deepened as he took in the sight of a lone figure standing at the edge of the cliff that was just inside the wards of the property and his jaw clenched, his fangs grinding together. He tugged on his shadows again, letting them carry him to the cliffside. He’d told him…
“You should have switched out guard duty two hours ago,” he said flatly, voice low.
At his words, Devrim twitched but his dark eyes didn’t look away from the water. “I did,” he replied, voice distant. “Technically.”
“Then you should be sleeping,” Hadrian said brusquely. “Not—” He cut himself off, not quite sure what the other Gheyo was doing or keeping an eye on.
A glimmer of purple flickered through Devrim’s eyes and he bared his neck automatically in silent apology, but he remained where he was. “I’ll be fine,” he said quietly. “But I don’t think I can sleep now, after…” He grimaced and trailed off.
“You felt that too?” Hadrian asked knowingly.
“I heard it,” Devrim corrected, tone irritated. “Barely, but it carries on the water.” A soft, low-pitched growl rumbled in the back of his throat.
“Don’t,” Hadrian snapped in warning, dark eyes narrowing at the slightly aggressive sound.
The other Gheyo huffed. “It’s hard not to. The Hellhound likes his rampages and it’s never good for those that dwell in the Shadow Haunts. If I can hear it outside of the Haunts…”
“It doesn’t concern us,” Hadrian returned. He paused. “At least, it doesn’t right now,” he amended. “Now go to bed or go to my bed, whichever you prefer. Not the resting room—everyone’s settled in finally and I don’t want to deal with the lectures about another disturbed rest. I want you inside the house though, before I add to the wards. Who took over for you?”
Devrim hummed. “Brishen. Until two hours past dawn or until breakfast, if there’s no morning drills.”
