Work Text:

Joint training ended in a very dramatic fashion. Izuku developed a second quirk that went wild for a bit. He was currently in the nurse's office getting patched up when he heard a conversation in the room across from his room.

“I’m a failure, mom…. You weren’t there! He took me down with one attack…. Well I thought it was a solid plan…. I don’t think it’ll matter…. There are so many freakishly strong students here. I’m average in every way…. Fine whatever…. Love you too. Bye.” Izuku’s curiosity was piqued by the sound of the upset girl. As he went over to check on her he heard crying. Izuku looked in to see Setsuna Tokage looking out the window sobbing her eyes out. She was still in her hero costume while Izuku had already changed into normal clothes.

“Tokage? What’s wrong? Can I help?” Instantly Izuku felt his heart go out to the poor girl. Judging by her conversation he knew exactly how she felt.

“Oh wow. To think you of all people would see me like this. I’m fine green.” She wiped the tears off her face, but the sadness was still there. Izuku walked over to her bedside. He pulled up a chair and sat down.

“I heard the conversation you had with your mom. I know exactly how you feel, Tokage.” He smiled softly at her. She pulled her knees up to her chest and stared at the bed sheets.

“No you don’t! There’s no way you could! You are strong. Smart. You deserve all the praise you get. Me on the other hand should just drop out. Like damn. I’m average in almost every way. You have such a strong quirk green bean! I have a weak, useless qui—“

“STOP IT! Tokage you are the smartest girl out of both of our classes. Yaoyurozu is smart, but not as smart as you. Strength isn’t everything. Besides, I grew up thinking I was quirkless. In my wildest dreams I never thought I’d be where I am. Kacchan has been training his quirk ever since he was a little kid. No one in either of our classes could beat him one on one right now. You shouldn’t beat yourself up for losing to him. Are you discharged yet?” Tokage sat there in stunned silence for a moment.

“Someone’s awfully bold today. Looks good on you. Yeah I’m free to go now. Why?” She just looked over at him while staying in the same position.

“Let’s go get some ice cream. My treat.”

“Be still my heart. Izuku Midoriya asking me out on a date? Did Bakugo blast me harder than I thought?” Izuku went bright red at her declaration.

“No no no! Th-that's not it at all! I’m just trying to help a classmate in need!”

“Oh now I’m not good enough to date? Way to toy with a girl’s emotions, green.” Tokage joked, causing Izuku to turn into an embarrassed, stuttering mess. Teasing Izuku made her feel a bit better, but she still felt downtrodden.

“Of course you’re good enough to date! Anyone would be lucky to date you! I mean look at you. You’re beautiful, smart, and have a really cool quirk. I. Um. Uh…” Izuku was blushing after his outburst so he looked away from the bed. Setsuna was blushing just as much as Izuku. She never took her eyes off of him. She was always confident about her appearance. There was something about being called beautiful that took her aback. Someone else confirming it without any ulterior motives made her heart soar.

“You sure have a way with words, Midoriya. Thanks.” Her sad tone snapped Izuku back to her. Their eyes met. A soft, gentle smile graced Izuku’s face. Setsuna relaxed. Of course he of all people would make her feel better. “I need to change out of this costume.” Without waiting for Izuku to acknowledge what she said she began to lift up her shirt.

“Ok! Point taken!” Izuku bolted out the door to avoid peaking on her changing. Setsuna smirked to herself. She heard that he was easily flustered, but didn’t expect how easy. After changing she walked out into the hall.

“Are you ready to go, Midoriya?” Izuku smiled and nodded. “Great so where are we going?”

“There’s a small shop near the campus. Probably a five minute walk.” The two left the campus and headed to the ice cream shop. On the way there Izuku recapped the rest of the joint training to Setsuna.

“That’s like a whole new quirk. It has nothing to do with your main power you’ve displayed before. You’ll have to tell me more one day.” Izuku grew nervous about her train of thought. She figured it out instantly.

“Haha. Yeah. One day… oh we’re here!” He quickly changed the subject as they walked into the small building. “What kind of ice cream do you want, Tokage?”

“Hmm. Surprise me.” She winked and went to sit down at a table by the window. Her confidence seemed to be back at the moment, but it was only a show. She still felt sad. Setsuna hoped Izuku would be able to cheer her up.

“Here you go. I wasn’t sure what you’d like so I got us both mint chocolate chip cones.” Izuku sat down at the table and handed her the cone.

“Thanks. It’s one of my favorites.” She gladly took the cone and took a bite out the top. “I could just imagine if any of our classmates saw us. We might as well be on a date then. The rumors would be hilarious. I’d be sure to let everyone know that you’re an amazing kisser.” At that Izuku went bright red. That made Setsuna burst into laughter. Teasing her fellow green haired classmate made her feel better.

“I-I’m not sure I would be. I’ve never even kissed a girl before.” Izuku quietly licked his cone. Embarrassment creeping its way onto his cheeks.

“WHAT?!?” Setsuna stood and slammed her hand onto the table making Izuku jump. “You’ve got to be joking right? I’ve heard from Sero about the girl at the license exam. Not to mention you’re extremely attractive! Damn. I’m helping you now. Who do you have a crush on?” She sits back down with a determined look on her face. Meanwhile Izuku’s mind was racing one thousand miles per hour.

“Um. Uh. I um. I thought it was Uraraka, but I’m not so sure anymore.” He tried to focus on the cone. Truth was he could say a few people crossed his mind, but he couldn’t really say they were crushes or not.

“Why not? She’s a cutie. You two would be perfect together.”

“Honestly I just see her as a friend.” He kept his attention on the cone and didn’t notice the mouth floating by his ear.

“I bet it’s Yaomomo. She’s a real babe. Or is it Mina? She’s got a killer body too. Oh I know! Tsu is probably it huh? That tongue could work wonders.” Setsuna was whispering seductively into Izuku’s ear. With each second his face grew redder and redder. “Or is it Jiro? That punk look can be pretty cute I guess. Or is it Hagakure? Oh the possibilities with her! Maybe it could even be me?” She lowered her mouth onto his neck. She softly bit down on his skin. When her mouth pulled away Setsuna could see a little bite mark. “Oh that’ll definitely turn into a hickey. Have fun explaining that one.”

“I-I-I-I-I. It IS you…” Izuku tried to hide his face. He never confessed to a girl before so he wasn’t sure what to expect.

“Oh…” Izuku felt his heart drop. She would reject him. He had a feeling, but wasn’t sure. While he began to feel dejected his hands were pulled away from his face. Izuku was met with cold lips that tasted like ice cream. The contact felt so pleasant to him. It felt like time was standing still. When they finally separated Izuku snapped back to where they were. He looked across the table to see a very embarrassed Setsuna smiling.

“Tokage…”

“I think after that you can call me Setsuna. Izuku. I wasn’t wrong by the way. You are pretty good at that. This can be our first date.” She winked at him. Both sporting noticeable blushes. “Enjoy your first kiss?”

“Yes. That was perfect.” Before either of them could say a word Izuku’s phone buzzed.

Kaminari has sent you a photo.

Izuku opened it to see a picture taken in front of the ice cream shop. It was Setsuna’s mouth kissing him.

“What is it, Izuku?” She floated an eye over to see the picture. Without a word both looked outside to see Denki Kaminari standing there with his mouth open. In a matter of moments both of their phones were lit up with messages. “Well the cats out of the bag hahaha.” Setsuna’s laugh put Izuku’s mind at ease.

“Does this mean we are dating now?” Izuku knew the answer, but he wanted her to say it.

“Duh. I couldn’t think of a better guy to date.” Setsuna winked one more time before the duo left the shop. Kaminari had hightailed it back to campus by the time they left. “I could hype up the rumor train hahaha! Imagine if I used my quirk to put a hickey on my thigh. Oh boy that’d be funny!”

“Not for me! Haha. I’m already nervous to tell people. I don’t want to have the reputation of ‘that guy’.” Izuku held her hand as they walked back to campus together.

“Pfffff! You couldn’t be ‘that guy’ if you tried!” Setsuna smirked and squeezed Izuku’s hand. “I don’t know what I’d do if you had a personality like mine.”

The two walked in happy silence back to the school. Setsuna rested her head on his shoulder as they walked. Despite her outgoing extrovert personality Izuku felt perfectly calm with her. They arrived at the 1-B dorms with slight disappointment in their hearts.

“Hey, Izuku…”

“Yeah? What’s up Setsuna?” Izuku cocked his head to the side and looked at his girlfriend.

“Thank you… I really needed this. I can’t wait for us to go on more dates!” She cupped his face with both of her hands. She pulled Izuku into a tender kiss.

“I’m glad I could help. I don’t think I’ll get tired of that.” She smiled as their foreheads rested on each other. Setsuna looked over to the dorm. She saw several of her classmates looking through the window.

“Hehehe. I guess they want to know what’s up. I’ll text you in a while. See you later Izuku!” She kissed his cheek and went inside. Izuku just smiled as he watched her go inside. Izuku made his way back to his dorm. Standing outside he took a few deep breaths to calm himself.

“Hey guys… I guess I have some explaining to do?” He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head as he walked inside.

“Midoriya. Is that a hickey on your neck? How is it YOU are the first to get a girl?” Izuku was avoiding Mineta’s gaze, but he could feel the pure jealousy and venom in his voice. “How are YOU the luckiest guy ever!?!?” Izuku laughed it off and began answering all of his classmates' questions.

“Midoriya does have a type of personality that draws people in. Especially us girls. I think Tokage is the lucky one here. Congratulations nonetheless!” Momo eloquently said after all the questions had been answered. Izuku grew red under her praise.

“Th-Thanks Yaoyurozu. It’s been a long day. I think I’m going to crash now. Goodnight guys.” After a few more congratulations Izuku went up to his room. He opened his phone and sent a single message before falling asleep.

IM: goodnight setsuna. I’ll see you tomorrow.

ST: good night cutie! ;)

Setsuna laid down on her pillow. Thanks to a green cinnamon roll she no longer felt sad about the training.
