And They Were Roommates...

Summary:

Alternate story line following the battle with Belial where Sunny doesn't turn into a demon at his trial and the Great Church lets him go

Chapter Text

Following the battle with Belial, everything fell pretty quiet with demon sightings being greatly reduced. After Sunny became healthy again, both him and Ezra started going to classes again. The two had grown a lot closer from when they first met.

Eventually Sunny moved in permanently with Ezra, claiming it would be easier for the both of them because they share some classes despite studying two very different majors. Ezra thought after everything Sunny would go back to his old place immediately, but this was quite the surprise. A part of Ezra wanted him to go back, but the other part wanted him to stay so badly. There was no convincing Sunny as he is very steadfast. All of the counters Ezra threw at him, he spit right back. Eventually the brunette gave in which put the biggest smile on Sunny's face. Ezra cursed at himself in his head. How dare he have some feelings towards an emo prick like him. Yeah right.

"You good?" Sunny asks, snapping Ezra from his thoughts.

"What? Oh yeah I'm great!" he laughs off the situation. There were many conflicting feelings still in the air which Ezra wanted to keep away for the time being. Although done poorly. He grabbed the car keys from the kitchen counter and sped off towards the door. The faster they get this done, the better. The less time Ezra gets to look at Sunny and admire him in all his glory.

Sunny didn't have much left at his other place which Ezra felt was a bonus. He also felt a bit sad for the boy, knowing he didn't have much at all. Ezra set down the last of the few boxes and wiped his forehead, "You should let me take you shopping. You don't have a lot of things. Plus, I owe you."

Sunny furrowed his brow, confused, "Owe me; for what?"

"Making me understand my conviction. I was lost and confused on what I really wanted, but you helped me understand. Thank you…" he stood against the table, face red.

Sunny laughed lightly and walked towards Ezra, "If you insist. Honestly, I should be thanking you as well. You stopped the demons from coming after me, you saved my life. Even if I did almost die," he rubbed the back of his head sheepishly, "If anything, I owe you. I am forever grateful to all of you guys."

"Never expected you to be the sappy type," Ezra joked.

"I open myself once and this is what I get? Thanks," Sunny crossed his arms and pouted.

"I'm only joking. C'mon, let's go out and get you some stuff. You deserve a nice demon-free time," he laughed at his own statement. Sunny couldn't help but join in with the laughter. This was the first time in a good while he was able to feel some sense of happiness without a worry in the world. It felt nice, freeing.

All afternoon, the boys were out shopping. Sunny expressed many protests during their time together, but Ezra wasn't going to give in. He wanted his friend to be happy after all that happened. The duo returned with many shopping bags in hand. They didn't plan to get as much as they did, but oh well. Ezra didn't care.

"I'm just gonna leave this for tomorrow. I'm too tired to put any of it away," Sunny stated, setting the last of the bags beside the couch. He plops down followed by a sigh.

"I'll go get you a pillow and blanket," Ezra practically runs to his room and takes his pillow and blanket from the bed and hands it to Sunny.

"Aren't you… already using this for your bed?"

"Pfft, no! You think I would give my most comfortable and fuzzy blanket and my most fluffy pillow to anyone?" Ezra put his hands on his hips.

"Right… well, thank you anyway," Sunny smiled softly. That smile alone made Ezra's heart skip a beat.

"You should get some sleep. We have class early tomorrow."

Sunny gives a light nod, "Right. Night, Ezra," he says quietly.

"Night, Sunny," Ezra quickly walks to his room and closes the door. He puts a hand on his chest, trying to calm his racing heart. Who knew Sunny would have such an impact on him.
