Summary
Pilot Anthony Crowley works at a small outfit transporting goods and passengers from Terra-1 to the colonized planet of Xæ. The pay is dirt cheap but it’s regular. The oligarchs of ApeX are the new feudal lords, and though Crowley tries not to think about it too hard, ferrying goods (including indentured servants desperate for clean air and water) for a planet of the wealthy leaves a sour film on his teeth.
Then an intergovernmental contract goes out to bid, and Crowley’s boss Bee jumps at it. Project Eden proposes a far more egalitarian future on a planet potentially ripe for colonization, and though Crowley doesn’t think life will ever really change, he’s looking forward to the brief change in scenery.
He didn’t expect that scenery to include exomycologist Dr Aziraphale Fell. Nor does he expect the man’s bright hope for all humankind.
And then come the acts of sabotage.
