Work Text:
Scar had given them everything. He’d given so many lives, he’d made so many deals, he had friends.
And then they left him on Magical Mountain, alone.
And then they watched as he burned in lava, alone.
And then he woke up, red: alone.
The contracts said nothing about what people had to do if he turned red before them, and beyond contracts he doubted Scott or Pearl would be quick to take him in. He thought he’d been alone before but this… This was a different kind of alone. This was an alone that clung to his bones and made itself at home in his soul, an alone that made everyone run for him if they saw even a hint of his red eyes gleaming around a corner. This was an alone that was permanent, forever.
Of course he could kill to make more friends, bring his allies to red, but for what? If his first scam to enjoy some pretence of friendship and camaraderie had failed, who was to say that a second attempt would work? If he attacked them, they could attack back.
They could kill him.
He wondered if he would feel so alone in the void.
He wondered if, on the other side of it all, he would find a friend.
Maybe Yellow Snow would be waiting for him. Maybe Pizza would be there. Maybe Mr Bubbles would grace his presence.
He’d have to die to find out.
Scar had gone to such efforts to forge the few friendships he had. Even if his friends didn’t have to be loyal to him now, he would be loyal to them. Even if his ties were meant to be broken, he couldn’t. He couldn’t. Dying was the only way.
He had to die.
At least dying was easy. He was on a mountain and it would only take one misstep to end his life. To end the loneliness. To fill the void in his chest slowly leaking into the rest of his body. He worried if he left it too long that numbness would take hold and no longer would he be able to fight the red urges to kill. He would feel the wind in his robes, in his hair, one last breath of freedom--
His communicator vibrated, Scar pulled himself from the thoughts of escaping his prison of solitude long enough to check the message that had come through, and the plethora of messages that had followed.
Grian was slain by Grian
<Smajor1995> GHJKDFGHL
<ZombieCleo> WHAT
<impulseSV> GRIAN?!
<LDShadowLady> he just got off red!
<MumboJumbo> I tried to stop him! This is my fault!
<Etho> What on Earth is happening?!
<SolidarityGaming> I’m lost, Southerner’s regroup!
Grian whispers to you: I’m sorry Scar. I’m coming.
