Work Text:

Faint purple-pink dusted the horizon, signaling the end of night. It had been a long night, of a long war, and Sypha was tired. Her shoulder throbbed, her vision blurred, and her steps were slow and ponderous, but she wasn’t quite done yet.

At the entrance to the castle, before the open doors, stood her two companions. Each of them had injuries as well, external, certainly, but the fight had taken an emotional toll as well. If she wanted to sink into a bed, wrapped in an embrace, and told it was alright now, she couldn’t imagine how these two strong, lonely men felt. So carefully, gently, she approached.

One hand went to Alucard’s shoulder, getting his attention to offer a smile--as much of one as she could make. Alucard’s gloves were still covered his own father’s blood, and Sypha felt her heart squeeze in pain at the very thought of his turmoil. Sypha’s other hand went to Trevor, tangling her fingers in his when he wouldn’t look her way. Even when he did, his eyes looked as lost as she felt, though he was surely years and years back, with his family.

Sypha pulled her companions closer, needing the heat, the feel, the beats of their hearts near hers. She had to know she was alive and well and that the future was still waiting for them.

Trevor and Alucard scooted into her, then as she sagged, each wrapped another arm around her, and subsequently, each other. There was a pause then, as if they weren’t sure whether to continue. They were all tired though, and in the light of the rising sun, the trio who defeated Dracula sank to the floor, holding tight as a way of saying, “We’re here. We’re together.”

“Out here alone?”

Sypha watched Alucard turn his head to face her, a little smile on his lips. “Not quite.” He tilted his head to the sides, and Sypha walked further out on the balcony to find Trevor sprawled out on a blanket. Sypha smiled too, the sight of Trevor, alive and well and apparently comfortable enough to sleep outside, brought the best kind of tears to her eyes.

“I see,” was all she managed to get out.

Alucard looked at Trevor, then back to Sypha, and patted the ground next to him. Sypha wiped at her eyes and sat down, snuggling up to Alucard. The arm he put around her immediately calmed her; Her heart and face warmed in the last rays of the sun. For a few minutes, Sypha enjoyed the cool breeze and smell of pine. The last few songbirds sang out their goodnights as they flew home. When Sypha spoke, she did so in an undertone, unwilling to break the peace of the moment.

“Is it alright for Trevor to be out here?”

“I think he’s smart enough not to go jumping off balconies at the moment.” Sypha tsked and elbowed Alucard, though her frown was difficult to maintain in light of his impish smile.

“I meant with his injuries.”

“I know.” Alucard let out a couple more chuckles. When he leaned forward to see Trevor, Sypha saw his face soften, fondness brimming in his eyes. “He’ll be fine. I made sure the injury was clean and healing well, but since two weeks passed, the critical stage is over. The outdoors won’t do him any harm now. Especially with beds available for the night.”

“Good,” Sypha said firmly. She wasn’t going to cry any more, she told herself, and briskly shoved the images of Trevor traveling alone out of her mind. “You’re right. We’re all together again. We can all take care of each other.”

“I… yes.” Alucard looked a bit stunned--if happy--so Sypha leaned on him harder and wrapped her arms firmly around his waist.

“I’ve missed you both. It’s been two weeks since I arrived here and I’ve barely spent any time with the both of you.” Sypha cursed herself as he felt that familiar lump climbing up her throat. Damned pregnancy emotions.

Alucard, bless the man, rested his head on hers and just whispered, “I know. I’ve missed you too.”

“We should make up for that.”

Alucard hummed in agreement.

“How big are the beds in this castle?”

“Um. Pretty big, I think? Most of them, anyway.”

Answering his unspoken curiosity, Sypha said firmly, “We should find a good one then. Nice and soft, to fit all of us.”

“...All of us?”

His hopeful tone was mirrored by Trevor’s, “All of us?” The hunter, was leaned up on his good elbow, eyes still sleepy as he watched them.

“Yes,” Sypha said, “all of us. We deserve it.”

Trevor slowly gained a smile, righting himself and shuffling over to her other side. When he leaned in to her, Sypha felt Trevor's arm wrap around her waist, and further to Alucard. Alucard did the same, placing the hand on Sypha’s shoulder over to Trevor’s, and bringing his other arm around--hesitant at first--to lay on Trevor’s knee. Warmth seeped into Sypha from all angles, the tangle of limbs encasing her feeling like the safest place in the world.

“I could get used to this.”

“I bet you could,” Alucard teased.

Trevor yawned. “Well, I am looking forward to a nice late snack before bed.”

Sypha snorted.

“What? It’s been a long time since we’ve had access to such nice food.”

“It has been, hasn’t it?” Alucard mused. “A long time, I mean.”

Sypha hugged Alucard tightly, then snaked a foot around Trevor’s nearest leg to give the best equivalent hug she could. Both men squeezed her back.

“It has.” And what a harsh journey it had been. In the end though… “I am glad we ended up here.”

And as the sun set, taking with it the bright yellows and oranges to make way for a cooler, quieter blue-black, Sypha believed the three of them had finally found their ending. Their family.

Notes:

Just thought I'd start off with something sweet. ( ˘ω˘ ) The trio deserves their happy ending, and I'm so glad they have it!
