It wasn’t often that Gyro left the lab during the day. There was seldom a reason for it and he much preferred it that way. But here he was, walking down the streets of downtown to pick up Fenton’s favorite lunch. The other man had been out of the lab all day on Gizmoduck runs as apparently crime chose today to be the day it would be busy.
His phone pinged and he pulled it out of his pocket, a gin splitting his face in two as Fenton texted him. ‘Finishing up here. Be back at the lab in about 5 minutes. ’ It read, and as Gyro’s fingers glided over the keypad to respond he ran head first into. Very solid object.
He was momentarily knocked back, a pair of familiar hands reaching around his waist preventing him from collapsing on the concrete. He looked up and held back his laugh as a still hero clad Fenton awkwardly smiled down at him.
“You okay there, uh, random citizen.” Fenton spoke, letting Gyro go once when he was upright, his own laugh shoved deep down as he fought not to break character.
“Yes, I am, Gizmoduck. You saved my life. Thank you so much.” Gyro replied, a snort breaking free of his restraints as he and Fenton shared a knowing glance.
“That’s what I’m known for.” Fenton responded, “Saving those in distress. Being a hero.” And Gyo wanted to roll his eyes. “Well, I must be going now, perhaps we shall meet again?” And Gyro’s bill scrunched up in mirth.
“Perhaps.” He replied, taking a step back as Fenton smiled at him as he flew away. Seconds later another text from Fenton pinged on his phone.
‘See you soon? ’ It read and Gyro couldn’t help but to reply, ‘Of course.’
