Work Text:
Dick Grayson sat with his head leaning against the glass window, his eyes were aimlessly looking at the bustling crowd below, only heaven knew what he was thinking. Suddenly, he pulled a black and white photograph from his pocket. At first glance, everyone thought it was tasteless, but looking closely, one could immediately recognize a boy with a smile like winter sunshine. His smile was gentle, but it was enough to dispel the cold in Grayson’s barren heart. That boy’s name is Damian, Damian Wayne. He’s the lifeblood of this human named Richard. Damian Wayne used to be Dick’s lover, he is made up of ten parts calm, hundred parts gentle and million parts adorable.
Grayson recalled the beautiful memories they had created together, suddenly feeling empty. He remembered waking up early in the morning, buried his face in Damian’s hair, and greedily filled his lungs with the scent of pine. He remembered the warm hugs they used to give each other, maybe when he was cooking, maybe when he came home after a tiring day at work, or maybe on stormy days, they had wrapped themselves in a big cotton blanket, then hugged each other tightly while their eyes were glued to the romantic movie that was playing on TV. He remembered even the burning kisses they had given each other, his kiss was a French kiss, after which he could see Damian’s dazed expression ; and if the Wayne takes the initiative, it will be dragonfly kisses, making him shy and Dick could see his cute red face.
He missed Damian, and everything about him. Each memory was like waves crashing against the shore was his heart. And waves bring salt, the memories created with Damian were beautiful, but they also brought pain and torment, rubbing into Dick’s heart every time he thought of his lovely young boy. Those pieces of memories come and go, left a heart that couldn’t be healed. The sound of car horns ringing loudly on the busy road made Dick Grayson wake up, quickly got rid of the ghosts of memories named after the person he loved. He glanced at the night sky, it was almost 12 o’clock, how long had he been sitting by this window? Remembering the moments when he hugged Baby Bat in his arms and gave him a kiss so hot it was breathless. But at this time, he sat alone, embraced his loneliness and his misery. Richard clearly remembered those times when he walked behind Damian, tiptoed and then suddenly rushed to hug his thin back. Damian turned to look at him and then giggled, ran his hand through his hair to make it less messy, and then adjusted his scarf. Then Damian would stand there dumbfounded for a while, Dick teased him about it, and all Damian did was give him a smile as beautiful as the winter sun, then shook his head gently like reproach and continue to walk.
Yes, the person he loves is so gentle, Damian to Dick is like a cup of chrysanthemums tea. Chamomile tea is a little bitter, but with just one sip, it can make our mood less heavy, and at the same time, the scent of chrysanthemums has great charm even though it is so simple.
Like Damian, he’s bitter, why am I so attracted to him ? _Dick thought.
Suddenly, Dick’s eyes met a familiar figure, his pupils narrowed, he grabbed his coat, put it on, and threw himself down the busy street. His beloved’s spiky hair flashed in his vision, and Dick ran after him, easily making his way through the crowd, quickly catching up with Damian. Damian turned into a small alley. The scene before Grayson’s eyes gradually appeared, like a slowmotion movie, he realized the situation was all too familiar, as if it had happened dozens of times. He saw Damian turn into a pastry shop, and he crept in.
«Hello, Allen, haven’t you done with your shift yet?»
«It’s almost closing, it’s almost 12 o’clock, how can I help you? Oh ! Hey, how about coming over to my place for a drink? Garfield and Rachel are there too.»
«Please help me get the mont blanc, Allen. As for the invitation, I’m sorry, maybe next time.» Damian replied, his eyes full of laughter, suddenly, Dick felt like he was back to his youth, when he and Damian said the word «love» to each other.
«Hey hey, ever since then, you’ve been moody all the time ! Let’s cheer up… But kid, haven’t you given up yet?» Bart looked at Damian curiously, his face showed a little worries.
«Yeah, I haven’t.» Taking the cake from Bart Allen, Damian paid for it, then quickly walked away.
Damian stopped at a flower shop. He entered, and Dick followed. The shop owner raised his head and smiled warmly.
«Damian, you’re here again.»
«Hello, Isley, where’s Quinn?»
«Ah, she went out for a patrol with Selina. You came to get the flowers, right? Here you go.»
«Thank you, I want some chit chat, but I really need to go now, see you tomorrow.» Damian carefully picked up the bouquet and took the woolen scarf that Pamela had just shoved into his hand, then ran away. Seeing that, Dick immediately chased after him. By the time they both stopped, a chill came down Dick’s spine.
Wasn’t this their house? Grayson, with a thousand question marks in his heart, quietly followed the black haired named Damian.
«Clack» The sound of the wooden door opening resounded, and the cold wind rushed into the living room, blew the dust into clusters.
«Richard, I’m home.» Damian said, replying him was nothing.
«I know, I’m always late and make you wait, I know, I’m always so superficial that make you worry as hell.»
«But still, Richard, why couldn’t I hear your reproaches anymore? Where are they?»
«I miss you, I miss you so much.»
«Please…» Damian’s little helpless sobs squeezed Dick’s heart, he remembered years ago, also on this day. As he crossed that busy road, and laid down. Dami, baby, please don’t cry. Dick at that time was broken, wanted to hug his lover and comfort him, but everything was like water, slipping out of his hands, unable to hold. Damian’s whimper was small but resounded in the empty space, each sound bouncing as if it were Dick’s heart that was pinching and tearing. Looking back, his heart now was shapeless. The creaking of the stairs woke Dick Grayson from the invisible pain of love and nostalgia. He followed Damian who was trudging up the wooden stairs. A long «creak» was heard as he pushed aside the heavy room door. Once again, white dust flew, caused Damian to cough. The boy walked over to the bed, flipped the blanket over, and hugged someone’s bare skull. «Happy anniversary, beloved.»
