Yuuri supposes, in hindsight he shouldn't have persuaded Wolfram to go camping outside with him on such a cold winter night. He admits it, and he takes full responsibility for it. What transpired was purely a selfish request on his part brought about by the fact that both of them have been so busy these past few weeks that neither of them gets to see one another until late in the evening. So few-days-ago Yuuri thought, why not whisk his fiance away on a late-night camping trip away from everybody? What they (he means his advisors) don’t know won’t hurt them, right?.
Okay. Technically they didn’t go that far away. But while he was able to convince Wolfram with regards to the benefits of ‘escaping,’ the soldier in him wasn’t deterred when the topic of his safety was brought up. Hence why their escapade turned out to be just a couple of blocks away from the castle itself. The two of them have been forced to camp quite a number of times already considering the numerous adventures they’ve had. For some reason, however, it hits kind of different now that it was truly just the two of them.
They fixed their tent and prepared a small bonfire after a few minutes of searching for a good spot. Yuuri could remember how overly refreshed he felt by just being with Wolfram like that. Overall it was a fun experience,
...Until of course, some evil deity decided that the first snow of the year should fall on that same night. Towards the end of their camping trip, Yuuri and Wolfram were assaulted by the unrelenting fall of the snow. It soaked their tents, their clothes and basically everything. All their hard work just ended up being covered with a thick blanket of snow that they didn't have a choice but to pack their things and make a beeline back to the castle.
A Bummer. Yuuri thought as he carefully made his way towards the royal chambers.
He heard his fiance sniff as soon as he entered the room. In Yuuri’s hands were a tray of food and medicine that he asked the maids to prepare for his now very ill accomplice. They totally got an earful from Gwendal just as soon as they arrived back soaked to the bone and shivering. It wasn’t until Conrad commented on Wolfram’s state at that time that the eldest of the three brothers relented and let them go.
Yuuri was greeted by an amusing image of his fiance as soon as he approached the bed. It was so cute he couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. "Ah, poor you." He set the tray atop the bedside table and rubbed the occupant’s honey-blonde hair in amusement. Wolfram is sitting in their huge bed surrounded by layers of blankets with a red nose and a scratchy throat. His face was flushed and overall just looked miserable. Also, it could be just the light from the fireplace playing tricks on him but it appears like his eyes are a bit glassy. Tears probably?
He heard another sniff.
"How's your fever?"
"Gone..." Answered a weak voice.
"Hmm?" Yuuri felt for his forehead and immediately got his answer. "Nope, still hot."
"Wimp, I'm a Fire Mazoku. My temperature is always-"
The next couple of seconds were filled with the sound of Wolfram in a coughing fit. Fire Mazoku and winter apparently don’t go hand in hand. Yuuri rubs his back feeling even more guilty.
"...It’s times like this wish I could've brought a thermometer the last time I was on Earth."
"...A Derma-master?" Wolfram asked after taking a sip from the glass of water Yuuri handed to him.
"Thermometer, Wolf. It's a device that tells you your body temperature. If I have that, you can't fight me when I say you have a fever and you should rest."
"Ah..." Wolfram didn’t really get that but his head was throbbing so bad he couldn't think straight. He leaned on Yuuri's shoulder for support as soon as the spinning started draining all his energy. The other boy, in turn, gathered his arms around him for comfort.
"...Head hurts."
"I know. I'm sorry you got sick because of me. We shouldn't have gone camping like that."
"...I-I don't regret it. I got to spend time with y-you after all."
Yuuri sighs at that. "Ah, of course you'd say that." Apparently, even when sick, Wolfram still has a knack for making his heart skip a beat with mere words. The double-black busied himself with fixing and tightening the blankets around the blond's shivering body to hide his embarrassment. "Still, I should've known better."
Everything was quiet for a brief moment until a weak, but sure voice broke the silence.
"Y-Yuuri?"
"Hmm?"
"...You shouldn't get too close. I don't want you to catch whatever this is. Gunther would surely accuse me of treason, probably on the grounds of an attempt on the life of the Maoh."
Yuuri’s laughter filled the room - the sound providing Wolfram with extra heat. His fiance's next words however, sealed the deal and brought a shot of warmth straight through Wolfram's heart.
"I'm good. I like it here. It's warm." As if sensing that he isn't going to let it go so easily, Yuuri tightened his embrace on him, draining him of all thoughts of protest.
Wolfram sighed. What can he even say in reply to that? In the end, he's too weak to think about anything else aside from the fact that it is indeed warm here . His fiance's steady breathing, so close to him, is like a soft lullaby that is slowly… putting him to sleep. It wasn't until the sound of the blond's breathing evened out that the other boy remembered what he came here for in the first place.
"Ah! Your medicine! You should take it befo-" Yuuri couldn't help but smile at the image.
"Oh well. He could rest a bit."
