That's the way I Love(d) You

Summary:

Mina and Nayeon have been best friends since middle school. Suddenly, Nayeon started dating different girls until Mina can’t hold it anymore. Nayeon getting confused at mixed signals. Mina, confident yet coward gae. Minayeon just being idiots around each other.

Notes:

This would be my first fic and I just want to let you know that English is not my first language. I made a fic as Minayeon posted a selca together which extends my (or maybe our) lifespan jfsjsjfjd. I had only intended to create a one-shot, but as you can see, things did not go as planned hehehe. Because I'm still in classes, updates will be irregular, but rest assured that I'll write whenever I have free time. Hopefully, I'll be able to complete this by the end of the year. Excuse my grammar, I just want to attempt writing a fic because I've already done an AU hehehe. :)) I hope you enjoy it!

Inspired by Taylor Swift's "The Way I Loved You"

He is sensible and so incredible

And all my single friends are jealous

He says everything I need to hear

And it's like I couldn't ask for

anything better

*Ring*

I checked myself in the mirror and felt at ease because I was dressed in my pajamas for today's night trip with Nayeon. It's become a habit for us to go for a drive at night as she drives and we blast our favorite music on the stereo, just enjoying the moment. We've been apart in college since after middle school, since she studies engineering and I study medicine. Even though we went to different colleges, we didn't get estranged from each other because we've been friends for a long time. Jihyo and Jeongyeon, with whom we've been friends since middle school, are our frequent hangouts. They both introduced us to Chaeyoung, a neighbor who is only one year younger than us.

I went to open the door and there was Nayeon standing right in front of it. She greeted me with her signature killing smile. "Hello, Myoui, are you ready for our date?" she inquires. "Ohh, I've never been so ready in my life," I said.

"So, Mina, I've been meaning to tell you this," Nayeon began, Thick and Thin playing on the stereo. I furrowed my brows since she never refers to me as "Mina" unless it is a serious topic, which makes me nervous. “Hmm?” I answered quietly. "I——" she said, looking at me for a moment before turning her gaze to the front to concentrate on driving. She sighed and finally added, "I'm going on a date tomorrow night." I swiftly turned my head in her way, smiling and thrilled for her. "Awwww, finally!" I exclaimed. I told you it would be good to you. Finally, someone would be annoyed by the Im Nayeon,” I playfully said. She gives me a rabbit smile as she rolls her eyes at me. Dramatic ass. "How do you feel about it?" She inquires, "Do you have any arrangements for dates?" "I'd rather read books than do anything else, and as you know, my schedule as a medical student is really busy. I also want to spend my time in my room playing games tho” I explained.

"Minari, if you are always in your room and simply hanging out with us, you will not find the love of your life," she added as she adjusted her seat to drive comfortably. “Why look for others when I already have the right person alongside me?” I made fun of her. Her flushed cheeks and ears were visible to me as an indication of her being flustered. "Ahh, Myoui, you're being confident, aren't you?" Then she rolled down the windows and remarked, "Why is it suddenly hot?" I smirked, "Oh, that's because of the person beside you," I joked. "Ohh why is the AC not working tho?" This is a win for me, and her nervousness makes me chuckle.

a month after

Nayeon and I are currently wandering along the river, chatting about nothing in particular. Until I remembered something Jihyo said about Nayeon's dating progress.

During our meal, she asks, "Hey Mina, did you know that Nayeon is currently dating?" Because Jihyo is also a medical student, we frequently meet because our schedules overlap. "Uhm yeah, she informed me about that the last time we met," I replied, continued drawing a human heart and not looking up. "Did you know, though, that after her first date, she'll skip the second? She only met random girls once and will not meet them again." I raised my eyes to her and arched my brows. “W-what? Is she a moron? Why would she do something like that? "She's just squandering her time," I explained. "Uhm, well, me too; I'm not sure why she'd do that. But what if there's a reason?" she wondered. “But if there would be a reason, she would tell me right?” I assured myself

"Hey Nayeonnie, I've been meaning to ask about the date, how was it?" "You mean 'how were the dates?'" she corrected me as we continued walking. I simply shrugged, and she continued, "I only met them once," she replied quickly. I furrowed my brow and asked her once more. "May I just ask, why?" She stopped, which caused me to stop as well, "just because" she shrugged and continued walking. I feel like something is missing after wandering in silence for a few minutes. "Hey, why aren't you taking my hands in yours?" I pouted at her. “I'm afraid I won't be able to let go of it,” she murmured, looking into my eyes. I'm overwhelmed by her seriousness, so I look at my watch and say, "U-uhrm, I guess it's getting late," and walk to the car first. I felt my cheeks flush as I heard her giggle.
