Rain, Rain, go Away

Summary:

Work Text:

“Rain, rain, go away, come another day.”

Tally’s voice sung out the rhyme just before she jumped in the nearest puddle, her laughter tinkling as she splashed them both.  Bringing a mock growl from Peter as muddy water sunk into the denim of his hundred plus dollar jeans, making their daughter laugh all the more.

Why Peter wore hundred dollar jeans on a wet, muddy walk through the preserve with him and Tally was beyond him.  He suspected, though, it was probably something to do with Peter knowing just how much he liked him in those particular jeans.

The fact Tally’s Dad was a teasing asshole was probably not something he should be thinking when out for a walk with their daughter.

Tally took off as they reached the edge of the preserve running for the play area with Peter jogging after her, telling her off for running away from them, even if it was only a few yards.

And really she did know better, even if she rarely did exactly as they told her.  And more often than not, she was running towards them rather than away.  The number of times both he and Peter had ended up with grubby hand prints on clean shirts was more than he could remember.  His Dad had photos of a couple of fairly spectacular occasions.  Lydia and Jackson’s wedding being the most recent one.

He couldn’t help but smile as he watched Peter chase around the climbing frame and roundabout after Tally and Lydia’s daughter.

Having coffee shoved into his hands by Jackson wasn’t that much of a surprise.  Lydia occasionally ducked out of these play dates, for all the four of them got on, mostly, Lydia could still be twitchy around Peter on occasion.

Both of them understood it.

And it didn’t change the fact that Tally and Em were the best friends and, right now, were covering Peter in mud and leaves.  To the amusement of both him and Jackson.
