The door slammed behind you as you entered your home with a tired sigh. ‘How much longer do I have to deal with this bullshit?' Work almost felt tortuous today: rude customers, gossiping coworkers, a boss who is constantly demanding more from you and threatening to fire you… do you really get paid that much to deal with all these problems? At some points during your shift, you almost wanted to break down crying from all the strenuous tasks given to you, however, you prevailed… but at what cost? Setting your things down by the door and taking off your shoes, you took a moment to gather your thoughts as you rubbed your temple. A sweet aroma drifted out of the kitchen, greeting your nostrils as you were focusing on your thoughts.

“(Y/n)! You’re finally home!” You hear your happy husband, Rosinante, call from the kitchen.

Before you could respond, Rosinante appeared from the kitchen with a bright smile on his face. He wore a heart-patterned apron, along with some pink oven mittens. ‘Hmm.. he must’ve been baking,’ you thought as you watched his approaching figure. He swiftly pulled you into an embrace and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead. His reddish-brown eyes gazed lovingly into your own as he took off his mittens. Holding your face within his hands, his eyebrows furrowed in worry once he noticed your drained expression.

“You look so tired, honey. Are you alright?” He asked. voice laced with concern as he stroked your head.

“It’s nothing, Rosi,” you whispered, looking away from him.

“What’s wrong? You know you can tell me anything, (Y/n).” Rosinante sat down on the plush couch, pulling you beside him.

“Don’t worry about me, I’m fine,” you faked a smile, which Rosinante saw through immediately.

“I’m not stupid, (Y/n)” Rosinante half-chuckled, “I know when you’re feeling down so please tell me, what’s wrong? Is it work? Is somebody harassing you? Do I have to beat somebody up?”

Stifling a giggle, you shake your head and respond, “I’m being honest Rosi, it’s no-”

Rosinante grabbed your shoulders and turned your body to face him. His eyes locked with yours as his expression got rather serious. It sent a few chills down your spine to see your husband serious; Rosinante is a rather laid-back, compassionate man so when he gets serious, then it’s a big problem. He stared into your weary eyes as his hands rested on your shoulders.

“Please don’t lie to me, (Y/n). I know something is wrong… so please, tell me what happened? I don’t like seeing you sad.”

Tears began to form in your eyes as you bit your bottom lip, holding back your feelings. You didn’t want to worry your husband; he already deals with stress helping his brother run a business so you didn’t want to add to his list of worries. Looking down at your lap, you felt a few tears slide down your cheek as you clenched the fabric of your pants. Rosinante watched you closely, moving his hands from your shoulders to your back to pull you close to him. You couldn’t take it any longer; you buried your face into his chest and wrapped your arms around his torso, crying loudly. Your tears wet his apron and white shirt, but he didn’t mind at all. Large hands rubbed your back in a soothing manner as you cried into his chest. After a few moments, your tears eventually ran dry and you pulled away, feeling your head ache from pain. Rosinante reached over to the coffee table and grabbed a few tissues to pat your tears away on your cheeks. He handled you like you were glass; delicately and gently patting your cheeks dry. Giving you some time to recover, Rosinante eventually broke the silence between the two of you.

“Do you feel a little better?”

“Yeah… sorry, I just had a really hard day at work,” you frowned.

“Don’t apologize, honey. I understand how you feel. What happened at work?” He asked, pulling you to his chest to cuddle and stroking your cheek.

You vent to him about how stressful work was today, as well as mistreatment from customers, your boss, and your coworkers who constantly gossip about you. Rosinante listened to you attentively, furrowing his brows in anger while thinking about how toxic your work environment is. He holds you close as you talk, a wave of steady anger slowly boiling inside of him. How could somebody be so mean to you? Who dare be mean to his beloved spouse? His fists clenched in anger, but he took a few deep breaths to calm himself down. If it wasn’t his common sense holding him back, Rosinante would go straight to your workplace and unleash his fury.

“Sounds like I need to blow up your workplace,” Rosinante half-joked, making you laugh.

“As much as I would like that, please don’t do that, Rosi. The last thing I need is you getting in trouble,” you giggled, causing a smile to creep on your husband’s lips.

“If you say so, just remember that option is still on the table! How about we take some time to ourselves to relax tonight? You had a rough day, and I want to make you feel special. How about some sweets and a movie marathon?”

“I don’t want to keep you from work,” you respond sheepishly, “Don’t you have a shift tonight?”

Rosinante shakes his head, smiling, “Doffy didn’t need me to come in tonight because Pica volunteered to do overtime. I’ll be right back!”

A few minutes later, Rosinante returns with a few blankets, as well as some pillows and an assortment of DVDs. Setting them on the couch, he put his mittens back on and went back into the kitchen. You hear the oven pop open and an excited gasp, followed by the sound of a baking sheet hitting the stovetop. Curiously, you turn around to face the kitchen to see Rosinante taking off his apron and oven mittens and grabbing a spatula. You hear the clink of a ceramic plate hitting the marble countertop as Rosinante starts scooping the delicious-smelling baked goods onto the plate. After Rosinante puts them all on the plate, he begins to make his way over to you with a grin on his face, as well as a batch of freshly baked cookies in his right hand.

“They didn't burn this time!”

“Looks like you’re getting used to baking, Rosi. I'm glad” you smiled.

Setting the platter down on the coffee table, Rosinante turns his attention to the couch and arranges the pillows and blankets for the two of you before dimming down the living room lights. After doing so, he picks a random DVD and puts it into the DVD player before heading back to the couch. Sitting down, he pats the empty seat near him, signaling you to sit down beside him. Pulling you close to him once again, he lays down and turns on the TV using the remote on the coffee table. You lay on his chest, feeling the steady rise and decline of his breaths and smelling the fruitiness of his shampooed hair. The bright light from the TV almost blinds you, which Rosinante notices and turns the brightness down. Thanking him, you direct your attention towards the movie as your husband snakes his arm around you, placing a gentle kiss on your temple.

~ An hour into the movie ~

“Hey… (Y/n)?” Rosinante whispers into your ear, catching your attention

“Yes?” You turn your head towards him, eyes filled with curiosity.

A soft smile grazes his lips before he says, “I just want to tell you that I love you and I’m proud of you. You mean so much to me… and I am happy to call you my partner.”

Your heart did a flip hearing those sweet words flow past his lips, bringing a huge smile to your face. ‘I don’t deserve this man,’ you thought to yourself as Rosinante ran his fingers through your hair. Leaning forward, you placed a kiss on your husband's lips and brought your hand up to stroke his cheek. He stared at you with his adoring eyes as the corners of his lips turned upward. You admired his handsome features as you locked eyes with him. You were mesmerized by how perfect this man is: his beautiful smile, his compassion, his captivating eyes… everything about him you loved and cherished dearly. ‘How did I find somebody so perfect?’

“I’m glad I married you, Rosinante.”
