Work Text:
Little Nyancheng lives by the river.
The river shimmers under the blue sky with the reflections from the sun, and it warms Little Nyancheng's solitary life with its sun-kissed brilliance.
Little Nyancheng did have a father and a mother and a sister that he loved with all his heart. But the big bad fire went and took them away from Little Nyancheng.
One day Little Nyancheng sees a great dragon lying near the river that he loves very much. The dragon is blue and red all over, and it will not arise when Little Nyancheng tries to awaken it.
Little Nyancheng remembers what his Jiejie had taught him. Find this leaf and that root to stop the red and pain from hurting you. He goes to search for them so the dragon could feel better.
Days have gone by, and the dragon finally opens its radiant golden eyes. It huffs and rumbles when it sees Little Nyancheng nearby.
"Who are you, Little Soul?"
"I am Nyancheng. I found you near my home."
"Ah. Allow me to express my gratitude to you, Little One. You have saved this lowly one's life. Your parents must be very proud of you."
"..."
The wind from the south whispers to the dragon, and the ancient creature gently curls its tail around Little Nyancheng.
"My Little Nyancheng, have no sadness in your heart. This lowly one now swears upon the heavens. I, Lan Xichen, First Dragon of the Lan Clan, shall be there for you until the end of days. Call me by my name, and I shall come to you."
A bright ripple falls over the dragon, and Little Nyancheng becomes afraid when he sees that the dragon is no longer a dragon. A man-creature is now in front of him, and A-Niang once said one must be very careful with man-creatures.
The man-creature smiles, and its being shimmers like the river Little Nyancheng loves very much.
"It is still me, Little One."
"Lan Xichen.."
The man-creature, Lan Xichen, ancient dragon from the heavens, laughs and tenderly wraps his arms around Little Nyancheng.
"I am here, Little Nyancheng.."
And Little Nyancheng's small hands grip the flowing robe of his newfound friend's, his heart glad that he no longer has to walk this life alone.
