Work Text:
She was thinking about him again, Mirajane realized with an annoyed grunt.
She hated how often she found herself thinking about him, hated even more the amount of times she caught herself looking at him, absolutely despised the way her stupid heart started to pound like popcorn in hot oil every time he was around.
He was just a stupid boy, for God's sake.
Okay, maybe he wasn't just a stupid boy. He was Laxus Dreyar, and he was also the grandson of the man to whom she would be eternally grateful for the roof and blankets that covered her siblings heads. But, apart from that big little question, he was stupid, arrogant and annoying . She didn't even know why the hell he insisted on coming back to her head every five minutes, entering her thoughts and drawing her eyes to that stupid, cute face.
Because he was, unfortunately for her, very cute. The spiky blond hair that, given the amount of time she'd wasted looking at him when she could have been whipping Erza, she concluded it would be soft; the cold gray eyes that sometimes gleamed with a menacing gleam, but which soften tenderly in rare moments; his fucking square jaw and that damn lightning scar in his eye that only made him more attractive. The bastard was handsome .
Mira growled to herself, her hands balling into a fist on the table where she sat in the corner of the guild, and turned her head to the wall with a huff. Where the hell was Erza when you needed her? She needed a distraction, because sitting around watching the stupid blonde head on the other side of the guild was neither good nor interesting, but she couldn't take her eyes off it and urgently needed something to distract herself. And spanking Erza's sorry ass was always a good distraction.
Her eyes turned to him again. He wasn't even doing anything interesting, for God's sake, why the hell couldn't she take her eyes off him?! He was sitting at the table, as usual, Sound Pod to his ears, playing his favorite rock song, although she couldn't guess which one it would be - since anyone who approached the damn headphone without his permission, which, of course he never gave, used to be electrocuted - ignoring everyone around him as he did every single day.
He wasn't even nice, bearable at best, as smug, aloof and arrogant as a powerful wizard could be. If not more. She'd give him a few points for roasting Erza once in a while, or rolling his eyes at her in clear displeasure when she woke up with her ass turned to the moon and wanted to boss everyone around; for treating Lisanna well and kindly too, which only made her idiot heart leap again and -
Yeah, come to think of it, she wouldn't give that idiot any fucking points.
He was stupid.
And stupidly attractive, her conscience screamed, to her disgrace, when she started to stare at him again.
Maybe, maybe and it's a big maybe, maybe she has a little crush on him. Tiny and meaningless. He was four years older than her, there was no way in hell he was going to have any interest in her and he was Laxus . It was just a tiny teenage crush, one she needed to purge as quickly as possible, because if she kept looking at him like an idiot she would do something horribly stupid, like punch him and have her ass fried in return. Or kiss him.
Yeah, she would forget about Laxus Dreyar as easily as she had noticed him, and he would soon be just another loud blonde head inside the walls of Fairy Tail.
She just needed to figure out how to do it.
She should kiss him, she decided. She should kiss him, and she would hate it, and Laxus would lose all grace in the exact second she found out it wasn't all that. That he wasn't all that. And then she'd go back to kicking Erza's ass, and having hers kicked once in a while by the redhead freak, and everything would be as normal as any other day.
And maybe, maybe, one of these days she would manage to smack that smirk and smug smile he was shooting at her across the guild out of his face.
Yes.That's exactly what she would do.
With one last irritated grunt, Mira gathered all the courage she could find in her and rose from the table. Laxus didn't move an inch as she approached him, leaning against a wooden support beam, and continued to listen to his music peacefully, his eyes staring at her as if having her hopping onto the table in front of him wasn't worthy of his attention.
God, she hated that stupid pretty face.
She crossed her legs on the table, her eyes taking him up and down, looking for a damn flaw, something to throw in the stupid face of her teenage hormones and then shove the fact that he wasn't that good-looking down her throat.
“Mirajane,” he grunted, pulling one of his headphones away from his ear to hear her, which in itself was quite a surprise; normally he would leave the poor punished soul looking for him talking with the wind, before even giving him a look. She stared at him, her aura closing. He smiled, like the bastard he was. "What, Mira?" he corrected herself with a sly smile.
When she didn't respond, Laxus sighed, rolled his eyes and put the earphone back in place before settling down to listen to his music as if she weren't even there to begin with. God, why did she even want to kiss him?
"Hi," she muttered, reaching out to stroke the scar under his eye quickly, a ghostly touch.
His eyes snapped open and his lips curled into an annoyed sneer, but he took off the headphones completely, shooting her an annoyed look, which she ignored tossing her hair back as she adjusted herself on the table.
"What do you want, Mira?" he asked flatly.
“A kiss,” she replied. Straight to the point, so he could be the idiot she knew he would be, and she'd hate him even more, and voilá, goodbye idiot crush.
"What?" he coughed, mouth open in shock.
“I want a kiss,” she repeated, tone short and impatient.
Laxus blinked, his mouth closed, then opened, then he blinked again, and his brows furrowed in a kind of adorable mess and dammit she hated how cute it made him.
He looked so oblivious it pissed her off.
"Alraight, Drayer," she huffed, pushing herself forward to face him, even though he was so tall she had to reach out her head to look him in the eye. "I want a kiss. Just one. I have an... problem. And I want to get rid of him as soon as possible. So a kiss. That’s what I want."
Laxus gaped, speechless, his eyes blinking a few times to follow the tenor of the conversation.
"Okay," she sighed, rolling her eyes as she started to get up and leave. Rejection really sucked, not that she was going to let him know, not even over her dead body. Where the hell was Erza anyway? She should have been back in an hour by now, and she needed something to make her feel better.
She didn't get very far before Laxus' hand snapped to cup her wrist. She looked back, frowning at him, and was met with a slightly annoyed frown.
"What?" she snapped. “I won't steal one, or beg. If you don't want to, that's fine. ”
Instead of answering, he stood up abruptly and turned to the stairs that led to the second floor. He pulled her with him, ignoring the curious looks he received from the other guild members as he dragged her up the stairs.
Once upstairs, away from prying eyes, he turned to look at her.
"Why do you want me to kiss you, Mira?" he asked.
“I have a problem,” she growled, “or didn't you hear what I said? I want to solve it."
"What problem?" His eyebrow rose and her arms crossed as he leaned back against a table.
She shrugged. "It's none of your business."
"It's if I'm going to fix it," he said, his voice calm and indifferent, as if she didn't want to rip out his insides, which he knew from the amused look in his eyes. "Why me? I'm sure some of the idiots down there would be more… sympathetic to the idea?! ”
“It has to be your stupid ass, Laxus.” she growled, her eyes closing at the small slip. Dreyar , she shot her stupid mind, Dreyar your idiot. “Fine,” she growled. “I might have a little crush or something. God knows why. And I want to kill this as soon as possible and I think kissing you will make me realize how ridiculous you are and get me out of this situation. "
She wanted to punch him when his lips curved into a sly, arrogant smile. He was a bastard looking at her like that, like he wasn't surprised and liked knowing she could have a crush on him. Of course he would, she huffed, the ass cocky he was.
She was seriously considering punching him again, if it wasn't for the humiliation of her having already said what she wanted to him. Getting her ass kicked wouldn't help at all.
“Okay,” he muttered, and Mirajane looked up in surprise. "I'm gonna give you a kiss, Mira." He smiled, showing a hint of a canine, as if facing a prey, and her stupid stomach quivered at the sight, heat surging inside her and the demon inside biting to get out. Yeah, this shit needed to end as soon as possible. “Just one,” he continued. "And that's it. Hopefully, it heals you of those harsh feelings you have for me and so strongly don't want."
She growled, of course he would make a point of throwing the damn stupid feelings in her face. "Just one?" she asked, between half a growl. He nodded, that stupidly attractive smile growing. "And you won't laugh at me with your friends about it later?"
“Promise,” he nodded. “This will be between you and me. Nobody will know."
"If I find out you've said something to someone, Dreyar, I'll rip your balls down your throat," she growled in warning. "And you know I can hold a grudge like no one else."
She was pleased when she saw his expression falter, his I Adam's apple swaying as he swallowed. Apparently, even he knew better than to antagonize her. Good. Maybe one day she really would be strong enough to ruin that pretty face.
It really was a very pretty face, she concluded as he approached.
His hands touched her waist lightly, thick hands pulling her closer to him calmly, probably not wanting to do anything that would upset her, she chuckled softly. Smart boy. Laxus sighed softly as he reached her face, pulling her closer as he leaned in and Mira caught her breath, her heart leaping at the scent that filled her nostrils.
He smelled of rain, like the sweet, smooth smell that was over Magnolia whenever a storm was over. Strong, yet soft at the same time. His lips touched hers with a gentleness she would never associate with Laxus Dreyar of all people, gently pressing his flesh to hers. She pressed her mouth to his uncertainty at first, surprise and concern showing on her face when he pulled away, only to be swallowed again when he pressed his mouth to hers once more. Mirajane parted her lips, partly in surprise and partly out of curiosity, and Laxus gripped her bottom lip gently, leaving a small nip at the spot, urging it to open wider at the touch of his lips. She did.
Energy flowed at the contact, and Mirajane felt her pulse quicken, her body trembling in response to the kiss. Her hands flew from where they lay limp around her body to circle his head, rising to her tiptoes to reach him and she felt him shiver as he bent down to help her and her nails brushed lightly by the back of his neck. Shyly, she sucked on his upper lip, a low moan falling from the soft lips that touched her, his hands circling her waist and pulling her to him. His lips deepened the kiss, his tongue touching hers with a little more pressure, and Mira found herself pushing against him, pressing her body against his warm chest, his body heat seeping through the green shirt he wore.
His hands gripped her tightly, pressing his body against hers as if he wanted to merge them, and Mira sighed as she felt her body hit the structure of one of the guild's coveted second-floor walls, not even realizing that they had beeing moving. She didn't mind which one were, his tongue probing hers, taking advantage of the sigh that parted her lips, one of his hands gripping her hip tightly as her body stuck to the wall and his stuck to hers.
It was supposed to be only one kiss, her mind whispered inside her, something to slake her curiosity and totally shake the mindless passion.
Something to put out the flame. She shouldn't keep kissing him, she shouldn't like it and she definitely shouldn't want to keep kissing him. Her goal with this was just the opposite.
She did it anyway, her hand digging into the blond strands, that yes were soft, while his mouth ravaged hers, and pulled him a little harder towards her. Mira gasped as he shivered on her, a little moan coming out from between his lips.
He was trembling. Laxus Dreyar, the Laxus Drayer, shivered as he kissed her and his proud ass don't shivers for anything, and if that didn't make her all hot inside, then nothing else would.
His hands moved from her waist to her back, an involuntary shiver going up all over her skin at the touch of his fingers on the bare skin, the little topper not covering much, one of his hands coming up to grip the back of her neck and lift her head up, the other circling her waist tightly as he unhooked her back from the wall and pulled her toward him. For an instant, fleeting and quick, she wished her hair were down to feel the touch of his hands running through it. Tied up in the usual ponytail as they were, he just held her head as he kissed her, the kiss dwindling from desperate and needy to calm and gentle. She couldn't tell which of the two ways was his favorite, preferring to just follow the gentle movement of his lips over hers, opening her mouth to receive the gentle touch of his tongue in a slow caress.
It was too much and she needed to stop , but her hands just pulled him closer, her eyes locked as he slowly bit her bottom lip, pressing small pecks into the flesh, then swallowing her mouth hard again. She moaned into his mouth, a low, needy sigh, and Laxus grunted against her, his body pushing against hers, her hands flying over his back, landing on the hem of his shirt.
She sighed as one of her fingers landed on his hip, just some fingers penetrating the material of the shirt and landing on the hot flesh, and Mira swallowed because he was big and wide and he was burning , and the demon was screaming to get out. He grunted, one of his hands coming down to land on the curve of her ass hard and Mira jumped, her hands flying to land on his chest and push him away.
"Laxus," she whispered, half moaned, the voice trembling, choked and hoarse and she felt him tense as his mouth finally left hers slowly, though his body remained close to hers, his head hanging on hers.
"Holy hell, Mirajane" he grunted against her mouth, her stupid name never having sounded so crushing, strangled and hoarse before and her eyes opened to look at him, and sweet fucking Mavis, she took deep breath; if he looked good before, there was nothing more beautiful than seeing him with his hair rumpled and red lips and knowing that she was the one who had left him like this.
"Right. Good. That was…" she stammered, her hands landing on his chest to steady herself. He was staring at her, his gaze fixed on her lips and she knew, she knew , that if she kissed him again they'd continue exactly from where they left off.
And damn it, she wanted, she wanted , and she was fucked because it was her fucking idea to ask for a kiss and now she wanted more.
She came down slowly, finally landing on the soles of her feet and not her fingertips, and Laxus took his hand away from her waist slowly, taking a small step back, his body looking all tall and powerful again.
"Good. Unh, thanks” she coughed, her breath shaky as she watched him run a hand over his messy hair slowly. “That’s, unh, that’s was all I needed,” she muttered, as she pushed him away hard and spun on her heel, the tail of her hair whipping across his face as she did so. She didn't give him a chance to grab her again, descending the stairs like a hurricane.
Her hands were shaking, she realized as she descended the stairs, the flame that had once burned subtly inside her heart now burning like a damn fire.
Fuck, this was a bad , bad idea , she whispered to herself. It was a shitty idea and now she burned like she was in the middle of a fight.
Mirajane shivered, her eyes searching for the familiar redhead. Erza was sitting at one of the tables, a small plate holding a strawberry cake, her eyes gleaming at the cake.
“Oh, thank God ,” she sighed, straightening her shoulders and marching over to the other young woman.
The fist that came directly into contact with the red mage's face was the strongest she had ever laid, and when she returned an equally strong one, she was finally able to forget about the soft lips and blond hair that stole her breath.
Upstairs, Laxus swallowed, eyes closed in concetration, opening them as the screaming started downstairs and the sound of hers uneven breathing reached his ears, his hands balled into fists against one of the tables.
Things just got a lot more complicated , he muttered to himself, his eyes locked on the smoke rising from the place on the table where his hands landed, the electrical charge that lit up his entire body igniting and burning the wood.
