Mew and Gulf lay under the night sky on a soft blanket with their children squished between them, staring up at the stars. This was one of Mew’s biggest dreams, sharing his love of space with his beloved family. But, he was a giggling mess.
Gulf was pointing out random groups of stars and giving them ridiculous names and stories. “And that one, that’s the Chopper constellation. Once, many years ago, it was a real pomeranian dog that lived with a beautiful emperor. Everyone loved the emperor and doted on the dog to win their way into his heart. But the emperor knew what they were up to and rejected them all. Until one day a goofy boy came to live in his palace and they became the best of friends. But Chopper was jealous of that boy and kept trying to bite him! The boy and the emperor fell in love and tried to raise the puppy together, but he wasn’t having it and continued to force his way in between the lovers. So, one day-”
“Seriously, Gulf, what are you saying right now?” Mew asked through his chuckles.
“Shh, Phi, you don’t know about these things.”
Mew scrunched up his face and let out a huff of air, he was so done with this man. “Kids, your phor’s confused. That is actually the Little Dipper constellation. If you look close, you can see the scoop and see how the handle comes out and-”
“Daddy, tell us more about Chopper!” their son begged, ignoring his pa entirely.
“Yeah, was he evil? Is that why he had to go to the stars?” their daughter asked, even turning her small back towards Mew.
“Evil?” Gulf asked, smirking at Mew in victory. “Well, that’s a matter of opinion. The boy was certain that he was, he almost lost a finger or two after all, but the emperor swore he was the sweetest little fluff ball. Obviously, the emperor was wrong. But rulers don’t like hearing that, so the boy had to pretend that he didn’t know the dog's malevolent intentions.”
“Gulf! Chopper wasn’t evil! Don’t talk about my baby like that,” Mew pouted.
“Pa! You know Chopper’s story too?!” their daughter asked, turning back with wide eyes. “Was the emperor right? If he was super fluffy and cute, he can’t be that evil, right?”
“Right. He wasn’t evil at all. He was just...misunderstood. He loved the emperor very much and just wanted to protect him. He didn’t know that the boy would make the emperor so happy. But he stopped biting him! I mean, it did take a while, but he didn’t nip at him anymore. They raised him together and loved him. And when he passed away, they sent him up to the stars together.”
“Is that what happened, Phor?” their son asked skeptically.
“Welllll…” Gulf let the word hang there for a minute, smiling at Mew’s pout. “The emperor doesn’t like being told he’s wrong, so… Yeah, that’s pretty much what happened.” He laughed at Mew’s unsatisfied look. “Alright, Chopper grew to love the boy when he saw how much the boy cared for the emperor. After several years, he decided to let the boy keep his remaining fingers, even occasionally letting the boy pet his fluffy body. They adopted him a cat brother and later a human brother and sister so that the emperor would always be surrounded with love even when Chopper had to part ways and go live in the stars.”
Mew smiled fondly, stretching over their children to kiss his husband lightly on the lips.
“Ew!” the kids screamed and scrambled away, grabbing up their aging cat as they ran back into their house. Leaving their fathers to hug and kiss and all that disgusting stuff outside under the stars.
