Summary
It’s not yet gone a month since Francine left rehab—not for home, but for places unknown. It’s not yet been a week since Joe decided he couldn’t bear the shame, and couldn’t make Iris bear the knowledge that her mother abandoned her, and started spreading the lie that Francine died. That may have been the hardest decision he’s ever made.
He doesn’t expect company. Doesn’t really want it while he’s trying to sort out how to feel. But that doesn’t mean he can leave a knock at the door unanswered. He’s grieving, not rude.
“Yeah?” So maybe he’s a little curt when he opens the door. All his wariness vanishes when he sees Henry Allen on his porch, carrying an insulated bag.
