What Happens if I Win

Summary:

Reggie gets high on caffeine, goes to a board game café, and meets Flynn. They play a high-stakes game of Trivial Pursuit.

It isn't even terrible when he loses.

Notes:

This fic is a gift for BithaBlu who found the Easter Egg in "Cupcakes For the Celebration." They requested overly-caffeinated characters cheating at games. I narrowed down the character to Reggie, but I think it still works? Anyway BithaBlu, here it is. I hope you like it.

My excellent beta, Taste_is_Sweet is excellent. She always makes the story better.

Work Text:

“This place is great!” Reggie bounced on his toes inside the doorway of the board game café, hands clasped together as he surveyed the room.

The walls were covered in shelves full of books and different types of games. There was a counter in the back where you could order, and several mismatched tables and chairs, giving the whole place a basement games room vibe. Reggie could practically feel his neurons firing as he looked around the room. “They have Trivia!”

Luke still looked as unhappy as he’d done when Reggie had first begged him to go there. “Don’t you think you should be in bed?”

“No way! My brain’s way too…” Reggie circled around his ear with his fingers. “This is exactly what I need!”

“You haven’t slept in two days,” Luke protested, but he followed Reggie further into the café. “Besides, the tables are all full.”

It was true. The café was small, and despite the late hour, all the tables were already occupied with other students: reading, drinking coffee, and of course, playing games. Reggie frowned, then brightened. “There!”

“But someone’s sitting there!” Luke said, but Reggie was already moving.

He put both hands on the table, leaning forward and grinning at the two women sitting there in a way he’d never have done when he didn’t have way too much coffee on board. They both looked up from their textbooks. “Hello, ladies!” he chirped, “my friend and I are in need of a seat. Might we share your table?” He smiled at them, as warm and open as he was feeling, then blinked. “Holy shit, you’re both gorgeous!”

Luke grimaced. “I’m really sorry. He’s usually not like this. I’ll take him home.”

The gorgeous woman with long braids raised her perfectly arched eyebrows. “Is he drunk?”

“I am extremely over-caffeinated.” Reggie made a sweeping gesture that encompassed his whole body. “I’ve had nine cups of coffee and one medium-sized chocolate bar today alone.”

The gorgeous woman with the soft curly hair and cute gap between her teeth stared at him. “Nine cups?”

“And one chocolate bar,” Reggie repeated. Precision was important. “I’ve been up for two days straight!” He rubbed his arms, feeling the electricity pooling under his skin. He bounced on his toes, trying to shake it.

“What’s your name?” Gap-toothed girl asked Luke. She smiled at him, and Luke rubbed the back of his neck.

“Luke,” Luke said with a wide grin.

“I’m Julie,” she said.

Reggie leaned across Luke so he could get closer to Julie. “He likes you!” he whispered conspiratorially. “He only rubs his neck like that when he’s nervous, and he’s nervous because he likes you!”

“Oh my God,” Luke groaned. He facepalmed while Julie giggled behind her hand.

The woman with braids was also laughing. “What’s your name?”

“Reggie! Which is really short for Reginald. But I hate that name? My dad called me Reginald, and he wasn’t the greatest. So, I prefer being called Reggie.” He paused, wondering if he was talking too much. Was he talking too much? “Am I talking too much?” He asked her. “I think I get really chatty when I’m on caffeine.”

“Not too much at all.” She was still laughing, which made her absolutely glow. “And my name’s Flynn. Nice to meet you, Reggie. Why don’t you boys sit down?”

Reggie beamed at her. “Your lips are a perfect example of the Golden Ratio,” he told her as he sat down. “Actually, your whole face is.” He leaned on his chin and gazed at her. “So pretty.”

In a small, still reasonable, part of his brain, he was cringing at what he was saying. But the caffeine had removed all his filters and his anxieties at once. He felt confident. More than that, he felt brave! Brave enough to flirt with Flynn.

“Thank you?” she said, then looked at Luke, who’d sat down as well.

Luke sighed. “He’s harmless, I promise.”

“Totally harmless!” Reggie sat up. “It’s just the caffeine, I swear.”

“What’s a Golden Ratio?” Julie asked.

“It’s a math thing,” Luke said. “He’s majoring in theoretical mathematics.”

“I think I’d OD on coffee too, if I was studying math.” Flynn gave a theatrical shudder.

Reggie lost himself for a moment in Flynn’s eyes. It was like he could see straight into her soul, and it was infinite. “Your eyes are as dark and beautiful as a starry night.”

Flynn’s perfect lips parted in surprise.

“Oh wow,” Julie said.

Luke rolled his eyes. “Reggie’s normally not like this. He’s just high on coffee because he had a lot of shit due this week.”

“Two midterms, an essay and a lab!” Reggie crowed. “I haven’t slept in two days!”

“You mentioned that,” Luke muttered.

“I also had an assignment for music. I sing, and play bass, and keyboard sometimes. Oh I also shred on the banjo.” Reggie winked at Flynn. She smirked back and he wanted to fist pump in triumph. He started bouncing his leg under the table, feeling jittery.

Julie snapped her fingers. “That’s where I know you guys from! You guys are in the music program!”

“Yeah!” Luke grinned broadly. “I thought you looked familiar!”

That started a small discussion between Flynn, Julie and Luke about classes and their latest assignments. Reggie wanted to participate, but he could feel the blood rushing through his ears, echoing how his pulse was tripping through his veins. His heart was pounding and it wasn’t just from Flynn’s proximity. He rubbed at his arms again as his wiggled his toes in his shoes. Excess energy was sparking along his skin. “We should play a game.”

Julie immediately looked intrigued. “What kind of game?”

Reggie didn’t answer. He bounded up and grabbed a square box from one of the shelves before putting it down on the table. “This one!”

Flynn’s mouth curved up. “Trivial Pursuit?”

Julie read the box. “2000s edition? I might have a chance with this one.”

Luke shook his head. “Oh no, no. No. You do not want to play Reggie in Trivial Pursuit! He’s unbeatable.”

“Oh really?” Flynn leaned forward, eyes gleaming. “Challenge accepted.”

“Flynn always wins game night,” Julie said. “My dad’s actually banned her from playing.”

“Only Monopoly and Sorry,” Flynn said. She paused, thinking. “Okay, and Uno and Clue.”

Julie eyed her. “And Trivial Pursuit.”

Reggie grinned at her as he opened the box. His face fell. “This doesn’t look like the one I played as a kid.”

Luke reached over and grabbed the one page of rules. He squinted at it, flipped to the other side, then put it back. “Aw. There’re too much to read.”

“I’ll read the rules.” Julie took the sheet. “Okay. So first we set up the board—”

Reggie’s brain felt antsy already and Julie had barely started. “Let’s just play for points.” He took out four wedge holders from the box and put one in front of Julie. “You get purple, because it’s your favourite colour.”

Julie accepted the game piece. “How’d you know that?”

Reggie grinned at her. He gave a piece to Flynn. “Gold, for the way you shine.”

“Damn, boy is laying it on thick,” Flynn muttered while Julie giggled.

“Pink for how you’re blushing over Julie.” Reggie slid a piece to Luke.

“Thanks, buddy,” Luke said sarcastically, then blushed as he glanced at Julie, totally making Reggie’s point.

“And green, for your eyes.” Flynn put the last piece in front of him.

Reggie gave her a flirty look. “Glad you noticed.”

Luke huffed. “Can we play?”

Reggie nodded. “Ladies first. Who’s youngest?”

“Flynn was born in November,” Julie said. “But the rules say it’s the person with the biggest smile.”

Luke immediately beamed at her and Julie laughed flirtatiously at him. “You have my vote.”

Reggie leaned forward and smiled at Flynn, thinking of her birth month. “A fierce and emotional Scorpio. I can totally see it.”

“You bet,” Flynn said. “But Julie has the nicest smile.”

“True that,” Luke said, making Julie smile right at him.

Reggie sat down, then evaluated Julie for a moment. He nudged Luke. “Have you noticed the adorable gap between her front teeth? Because it’s adorable.”

“Thank you, Reggie,” Julie grinned.

“Just give her a question.” Luke shook his head.

Julie tore a page out of the notebook she’d been using for studying. “I’ll keep a tally.” And suddenly the game was on.

Reggie pulled out a card and reviewed the first question. “Which country released it’s new, plastic $100 bill in 2011 amid widespread claims by residents it smelled like maple syrup?”

Julie looked at Luke, like he’d have a clue. “Isn’t maple syrup from Vermont?”

“Nope!” Reggie’s leg bounced with his excitement. He looked at Flynn.

“That can only be Canada,” Flynn said smugly.

“Correct!” Reggie grinned at her. He tossed her one of the coloured wedges and Flynn put it in her holder.

“Point for Flynn!” Julie marked it down.

“Let’s make it the person who answers correctly reads the next question.” Flynn reached into the box and took out a card. “Okay, Luke. Which photo-sharing app is identified by a little ghost mascot, doodled by its CEO Even Spiegel in 2011?

Luke blinked. “Um. Snapchat?”

“Correct!” Flynn and Reggie said together. He gave Luke a wedge.

“One point for Luke.” Julie gave him a tick mark with a flourish.

Luke grinned and stretched around Reggie to grab a card. “Who’s turn is it?”

“Reggie’s,” Flynn said.

Luke angled himself more towards Reggie. “This is a tough one. What breed of dog is Champion? The three-legged pooch that joined the TV show Parks and Recreation in 2012?”

Julie perked up. “I know! I love that show.”

“Pit Bull,” Reggie said. “I love dogs. I used to have a dog when I was little. Her name was Angie and she was a mutt, but probably had some Retriever in her? She was a very dark brown, almost black and was really cute.” He sighed. “I loved that dog.”

“I love dogs,” Flynn said.

“You’re perfect,” Reggie breathed.

Luke nudged him. “Grab a card.”

Reggie forcibly pulled his mind away from planning his future with Flynn to take out the next card. The game continued, with Flynn and Reggie getting their questions right, and Luke and Julie… mostly not. After a while, Luke slid his chair around to the end of the table so he could talk quietly to Julie. Reggie and Flynn kept playing until both of them had filled up their wedges.

“Jaws,” Reggie said in answer to Flynn’s question, and then: “You know I’m winning.”

He loved how her eyes flashed. “We’ve literally both been getting each question right. How can you be winning?”

“Because you’re totally going to get a question wrong. It’s just a matter of time.” He smirked, feet waving under the table. Playing with Flynn was an amazing distraction from his caffeine overdose, but he was still feeling jittery and uncomfortable. His heart was flying like a bird.

She crossed her arms. “Try me.”

Reggie rubbed at the side of his head, trying to ease the throbbing. It started in the last round and was steadily growing worse, but he’d been ignoring it. He’d ignore anything if it meant he got to stay with Flynn. He reached into the box. “Which Rocky Mountain state is the setting for Greendale Community College on the TV show Community?”

“Colorado,” Flynn said. “Too easy.”

“Just a matter of time,” Reggie said with a laugh. He was loving being with her; loving her mind and the way she didn’t back down. “You’re not intimidated by me, are you?”

She titled her head. “People find you intimidating?”

He shook his head. “Not really. Except when they find out how smart I am. I kind of hate it.”

“The same thing happens to me,” Flynn said, “only it’s worse because I’m also a Black woman.” She eyed him. “But you’re not intimidated, are you?”

“Not at all. I like it,” he said. “I love it actually. You know so much! And you’re funny and really sharp, and you speak your mind like a real Scorpio. It’s fun.”

Her whole being softened at his words. “You really think so?”

He nodded. “You’re amazing. A Golden Ratio inside and out.”

Her cheeks coloured with his words. “I still don’t know what a Golden Ratio is.”

Reggie grinned. “See, I’m totally winning!” Then he winced.

“Nice try, Romeo.” Her expression morphed to one of concern. “What’s wrong?”

“My head’s hurting a little. Probably the caffeine,” Reggie said. “But I’m fine.”

“Okay,” Flynn said skeptically, but she took out a card and read the question: “What was the nationality of the groom who married his bride over a hotline in 2003 from the International Space Stat—”

“Cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko from Russia,” Reggie said before Flynn had even finished. “Did you know he wore a bow tie on his spacesuit for the ceremony?”

Flynn eyed him appreciatively. “You really are good at this.”

“Space weddings are pretty interesting. Did you know there’s now a clause in the cosmonaut’s contracts that say they can’t get married in space?” His eyes widened as a brilliant idea hit him. It was where he and Flynn were headed anyway. “We should get married!”

Flynn blinked. “What?”

“This is a great idea!” Reggie enthused. “If I win, we drive to Vegas and get married!”

Luke’s head whipped around. “Oh my God, Reggie! I really need to get you home.”

Julie was staring at him. “You’re not going to drive my friend to Vegas and get married. That’s crazy!”

“No, it’s perfect! Like Yuri and Ekaterina Dmitrieva, his wife. Only without the crazy age difference. They had a cosmic connection, too.” He reached across the table and took Flynn’s hand.

Flynn didn’t pull away. “If I lose we can go to Vegas. But we won’t, because I’m going to win.”

“Are you saying I’m going to lose? Because that’s not going to happen.” He couldn’t believe he’d been so bold, but it also felt so right. Flynn was the one for him. He knew it. His heart was banging against his rib cage. It couldn’t just be the caffeine.

“I’m saying you’re going to lose.” Flynn's smile was completely confident. “And when you do, I’ll tell you what my prize is going to be.” Her smile was so sexy Reggie’s mouth went dry. She nodded towards the box. “Read the next question.”

Reggie took out a card and was suddenly hit with a wave of dizziness and stabbing behind his eyes. He squinted against the pain. “How many white squiggly loops appear on the top of every single Hostess Cupcake? Seven, eight or nine?”

“Seven,” Luke said. He held up his hands as both Flynn and Reggie glared at him. “Sorry! I just eat them all the time.”

“Point for Luke.” Julie wrote on the paper.

“Another question.” Flynn indicated the box with her chin.

“What is the name of the fifth TV series in the Star Trek franchise, set a century before Captain James T. Kirk was on the scene?” Reggie read.

Flynn’s lips parted. “Um.”

Reggie crossed his arms, feeling smug. It was almost enough to dull the pain in his head. “You don’t know it?”

“I didn’t even know there were more than two Star Treks,” Julie said.

“I know it!” Flynn snapped. “It’s just… not coming to me.”

“You don’t know it,” Reggie gloated. “I win!”

“You do not win! Because I do know this! Besides, you have to get the next question right.” Flynn stood and grabbed another card from the box.

Reggie stood too. The sudden movement made the world loop in a large circle and he staggered.

“Whoa!” Luke steadied him. “Reggie?”

“Just dizzy,” Reggie said faintly. “Probably because of the caffeine.”

“Okay, I’m taking you home for sure,” Luke slung Reggie’s arm over his shoulder.

“No, wait!” Flynn put out her hand to stop them from leaving. “You never answered the final question.”

The slow turning of the room was terrible, but Reggie didn’t want to look away from Flynn’s face. “It’s a draw?”

“No. We need a rematch,” Flynn said. “Same time next week?”

Luke met Julie’s eyes. “I’d really like that.”

“I’ll be here,” Julie said.

Reggie’s heart soared. “Same time next week.” He groaned, shielding his eyes with his hand. The lights were suddenly far too bright.

“Let’s go big guy,” Luke said.

Reggie looked over his shoulder and waved at Flynn as Luke helped him out. He’d wanted to walk her home; maybe use some of his caffeine-fueled confidence to even kiss her, but he’d missed his window.

Same time next week, he thought. He hoped she’d actually be there.

“They’re not going to show.”

Flynn looked askance at Julie. They were sitting at the same table they’d sat at in the board game café the week before. Flynn had made Julie abandon her studying to snag it. “They’ll be here.”

Julie checked her phone. “Do you remember what time they showed up last week? Because I’m pretty sure it’s later than that now.”

“They’ll be here!” Flynn insisted. She and Reggie had had a real connection. Sure, their conversation was brief and he’d been flying on coffee and chocolate, but it’d been real. She knew he’d come.

Two men came through the door and immediately cited on their table. It was Reggie and Luke. Flynn smacked Julie on her shoulder. “Told you!”

She could feel Julie light up with excitement as both of them stood to meet the boys. “Hi, Luke!”

Luke came over and pulled Julie into a hug. She melted into him. “Good to see you,” he said.

Flynn turned to Reggie, hoping he’d also want to hug her. She wanted way more than a hug, but a hug would be a great place to start. Only he was standing with his hands jammed into the pockets of his leather jacket, looking unsure and completely different from the confident man she’d met. Her face fell. “Reggie?”

“Hey, Flynn.” He took a breath. “I’m really sorry for the way I behaved last week. I was totally high on caffeine and said some pretty stupid things which I probably shouldn’t’ve and… and I’m sorry.” He dropped his gaze.

Flynn gaped at him. “You’re sorry?”

“Yeah?” Reggie said. “I was high and acting really stupid, and—”

Flynn put up her hand to stop him talking. “Oh, no,” she said, “you do not get to apologize to me for giving me one of the best nights of my life.”

It was Reggie’s turn to gape. “What?”

Flynn crossed her arms. “Look. You’re smart. You’re funny. You’re sweet and you’re hella confident when you’re not doing—” she made a circle in front of his torso with her fingertips, “—whatever it is you’re doing. You do not get to take that all away by saying it’s something you should apologize for!”

There was a pregnant moment while Reggie stared at her and Julie and Luke looked uncomfortable. “I think we should get some coffee. What do you think, Luke? Coffee?” Julie grabbed Luke’s hand and dragged him towards the counter.

“Best nights of your life?” Reggie’s green eyes were very big.

“Yes!” Flynn threw up her hands. “You’re not intimidated by me! You don’t care that I’m really smart! You liked the fact I was beating your ass in Trivial Pursuit!”

A corner of Reggie’s mouth quirked up. “You weren’t beating me.”

Her pulse leapt with the challenge in his eyes. Challenge, and something else. Something that made her want to grab him and kiss him senseless. She grinned. “I don’t remember you answering the last question.”

“I remember you asking for a rematch.”

She lifted her chin. “Bring it.”

He grinned widely and grabbed the same game off the shelf. “First one to miss a question, loses!” They went back to the table.

Flynn looked for her friend as she sat down. Julie and Luke had found a darts game and were playing each other, coffees in hand. Her giggle was audible even over the din of the café.

“You get to ask first,” Reggie said magnanimously.

Flynn took out a card. “Who became the oldest host of Saturday Night Live in 2010, at eighty-eight?”

“Are you purposely picking easy ones? Betty White. I’m a big fan.”

“She is pretty awesome,” Flynn agreed. “You go.”

“Which legendary basketball player set a record in 2001 for being the oldest NBA player in history to score 50 or more points in a game?”

“Are you purposely picking easy ones?” Flynn mocked. “Michael Jordan. I think everyone knows that.”

Reggie laughed. “Hit me.”

Flynn smiled into his eyes, enjoying the thrill of attraction she felt between them. He was so good-looking: cute and hot all at once. “Who sang the Etta James hit, “At Last” for Barack and Michelle Obama’s first dance at the Inaugural Ball on January 20, 2009?”

“The Queen Bey herself! We should totally put her on the playlist at our wedding.”

That surprised a laugh out of Flynn. “You’re still on that?”

“It’s what we agreed to, remember? You lose and we drive to Las Vegas?” He grinned.

“And what happens if I win?” Flynn asked.

Reggie fished another card out of the box. “What do you want to happen?”

Reggie knew exactly how suggestive that sounded. Flynn made her smile as seductive as possible. “Ask me the next question.”

He swallowed, cheeks pinking. “What one-word combo defines someone who's famous for being famous?”

“Celebutante.” Flynn leaned her chin on her hand. “And if I win, I give you my number and you get to take me on a date.”

She saw the exact moment he understood what she meant. His eyes widened and his lips parted, making him look even more kissable. He swallowed. “Give me a question.”

Flynn smirked. “Which 2010 James Franco film featured the rocky landscape of Utah’s Canyonlands National Park?”

“Eat, Pray, Love,” Reggie said. “Did I get it right?” He grinned.

Flynn laughed out loud. “You cheated!”

“I lost,” Reggie said with a frown. “Clearly I’m not as well-versed in James Franco’s filmography as I thought.” He gave an exaggerated sigh. “You’re definitely the winner. I concede defeat.”

Flynn was laughing so hard her stomach hurt. “You totally cheated! You blew that question on purpose!”

Reggie raised his eyebrows. “Did I? Or did I just confuse the beautiful landscape of Italy with the Western U.S.? We’ll never know.”

Flynn wiped tears of mirth from her eyes. “Fine. You lost. Guess I’ll have to collect my prize.”

“Guess you will.” Reggie smiled broadly. He took his phone out of his jacket pocket, unlocked it, and handed it to her. “Could I please get your number?”

Flynn took his phone and put in her contact information, then texted herself. “My last name’s Taylor, by the way,” Flynn said. “And I’m not changing it.”

Reggie glanced at her for a moment before pocketing his phone “Reggie Taylor has a nice ring to it.”

Flynn chuckled and shook her head. “Boy, you come on strong.”

He blushed. “I'm sorry?”

She laughed. “Honestly? It’s refreshing. I really don’t like to play games.” She eyed the Trivia Pursuit box. “Okay, I do, but you know what I mean.”

“Totally,” he agreed. “Games in real life suck.”

He looked so earnest that Flynn had to take his hand. His fingers were long and had delightful callouses on the tips, probably from the string instruments he played. “So, where are you taking me for dinner?”

His thumb caressed the palm of her hand, and she shivered. “What do you like to eat?” He grinned.

She just refrained from making the blatantly flirty reply. “I really like Italian. And Ethiopian. But I won’t say no to a really good all-day breakfast.”

“Italian, Ethiopian, breakfast.” Reggie nodded. He was still grinning. “And when would you like this date to occur?”

Flynn titled her head, pretending to consider even though she’d had it planned for a while. “Tomorrow night? I could probably move a few things.”

Reggie laughed, his green eyes glinting with happiness. “That works for me.”

Julie and Luke took that moment to come back to the table. Their coffees were gone and they were holding hands instead. “We’re going to take a walk through the Sculpture Garden,” Julie said. “Meet you at home?”

Flynn stood. “Be safe and have fun!” she said to Julie in her best ‘mom’ voice. Julie giggled and hugged her, and then they were gone.

Reggie watched them leave. “I think they’ll be good together,” he said.

“Me, too,” Flynn agreed as she sat back down. It’d been a long time since she’d seen Julie so openly happy. But then again, she figured Julie would say the same thing about her. Reggie sparked something deep inside her: a sense of excitement and calmness, both. It was the same thing she’d felt the week before when she’d first met him, only stronger. She could really see a future with this boy.

Reggie was grinning at her like he could read her mind. “Rematch?”

Flynn laughed. “You want to lose again?”

He shrugged. “Maybe? I mean, losing the first time wasn’t too terrible.”

“Okay,” Flynn said, eyes glinting. “If I lose, you tell me what the Golden Ratio is. If I win, you get to walk me home.”

Reggie’s eyes gleamed. He grabbed a card out of the box. ”What life-simulation series, launched in 2000 by Microsoft, surpassed Myst in 2002 to become the best-selling PC game ever?”

“Did you purposely find a gimme question? Because that was a total gimme question,” Flynn said. “The Sims, duh.”

He beamed at her. “Hit me.”

She pulled out another card. “Oh, you’ll like this one. What Seth Rogan/James Franco TV series, named on of the 100 greatest ever by Time magazine, was cancelled in 2000 after just one season?”

“Oh no!” Reggie said with mock-seriousness. “That’s a James Franco question! I don’t know anything about James Franco, remember? Um. Firefly?” He smirked.

“You cheated again!” Flynn shouted. “You totally know this answer!”

He put his hand over his heart. “I swear I have no idea!”

Flynn crossed her arms, trying to look stern, but she was laughing. “You are a lying liar who lies.”

“Or I’m not a big James Franco fan and therefore get all the James Franco questions wrong,” he said sadly. “I’ll try to console myself by walking you home.” He stood and offered her his hand.

She chuckled. “Very smooth, Romeo.” She took his hand, got out of her chair and put on her jacket.

His expression turned as unsure as when she’d first seen him that night. “But… you like it?”

She gave his hand a little squeeze. “I like it. Shows you’re confident.”

He led them to the door and held it as they stepped out into the night. “I’m glad. Because I have no idea how to flirt with a girl. Especially one as smart and funny and beautiful as you.”

She smiled at his compliment as they started walking back to the dorm room she shared with Julie. “I remember you said I was a perfect example of the Golden Ratio. But I still don’t know what that means.”

“I thought I was only going to tell you if I won?” He raised his eyebrows.

Flynn blinked. “Damn. I forgot.”

“Guess you’ll have to wait for the rematch of the rematch,” he said.

“Or, I could just Google it.” Flynn pulled out her phone.

“You can’t just look it up!” Reggie said, scandalized. “That’s cheating!”

“It’s resourceful,” Flynn shot back. “The Golden Ratio is the number representing perfect proportions. It’s made up by Fibonacci numbers,” she read. “Those are a never-ending sequence starting with zero and one. You then add the previous two numbers together to continue the sequence—”

Reggie put his hand over her phone. “The Golden Ratio is considered divine, because of how beautiful it is in nature. Like the petals of a flower, or the curve of a snail’s shell, or a pinecone.” He stopped walking and faced her. Flynn pocketed her phone and he took her hands. “Like you.”

Flynn’s heart pounded as she looked at him. He was also beautifully proportioned, with his large green eyes over perfectly sculpted cheekbones and that extremely kissable mouth. “You’re pretty golden yourself.”

He kissed her, just like she hoped he would. His lips were warm and firm and tasted absolutely delicious. She moaned in pleasure and he licked inside her mouth, deepening the kiss.

Gently, she disengaged, breathing hard and her pulse racing. Reggie’s pupils were blown wide. “Wow.”

“You… are really good at that,” she said, equally as affected.

“I’d be happy to share my talent anytime.” He smiled and took her hand.

She savoured the feeling of being with him; their hands intertwined as they walked. She’d loved kissing him, would love to do way more with less clothes, but there’d be time for that later.

There was something about Reggie that let her know this was the real deal.

“I’m glad you came back,” Flynn said.

“I’m glad you were here,” Reggie responded. “I was such a goof last week, I wouldn’t’ve been surprised if you’d ghosted me.”

“I actually really loved you high on caffeine,” she said. “But not high on caffeine is really cool, too.”

“I’m really happy to hear that,” he said, “because I was so sick afterwards, Luke and Alex almost took me to hospital! I’d hate to have to drink that much coffee to get your attention.”

Flynn turned and put her arms around his neck. “Oh, you got my attention.”

He pulled her closer and slotted his mouth over hers, before gently pulling back just far enough to speak. “By the way? The Seth Rogan and James Franco TV show was Freaks and Geeks. Just thought I’d tell you that.”

She smiled against his mouth. “Star Trek: Enterprise.”

He jerked back. “You knew that?”

She nodded. “Mm hm.”

He laughed, incredulous. “But if I’d won, we would’ve gone to Vegas!”

“Point for Reggie,” she said, before kissing him again.

Notes:

Hey everyone!

Not an Easter Egg, but I would be delighted to gift a fic to the first person who comments with the answer to the James Franco-related trivia question Reggie "got wrong." Hint: The answer isn't "Eat, Pray, Love."

With thanks to Hasbro Gaming for their Trivia Questions. My family has the game played in the story.

Just a funny little fic about Reggie almost OD-ing on caffeine. Don't try this at home, kids.
