Chapter Text
When a person has extreme social anxiety, they struggle to communicate to others.
Bear in mind, that they only struggle to form connections, it doesn't really mean that they don't want to.
"It's just, I wish I could speak."
It's a beautiful sunny day, (Y/n) stares at the mirror in her bedroom with a blank expression on her face. Opening her black briefcase bookbag, she puts her items inside and closes it after checking it again and again for three consecutive times.
Loud bangs can be heard from the other side of her bedroom door before it was swung open rather harshly.
There, stood her one and only childhood friend, Susie. Though she might seem harsh to others, she's got a soft spot for (Y/n) who would always treat her to lunch.
And that was actually how they met in the first place.
Many would always tell to the (h/c) girl that she and her friend were polar opposites. Instead of saying anything, she would stare at them and they'd feel peer pressure from her stare, while in reality she wanted to note about it and was shocked that someone would approach her. Susie would then chase them away as she'd thought they were making fun of her.
"Yo, (Y/n)." She greeted, leaning against the human girl's bedroom walls. "You better treat me to lunch again since you forgot to give the usual shit." Ah, right, chalk.
She nodded and did a thumbs up in reply. Susie smugly smiles at her answer.
"Come on, let's go before one of your sisters beats the shit outta us." The purple lizard grabs the quiet girl's wrist, rushing out of her home and enter the school.
Once they were in, she lets go of her wrist and they both walked towards their homeroom. (Y/n) puts her bag in her locker, pulling out a notebook and a pencil as Susie slams the door open.
The whole room went silent because of her appearance, as her other friend was just standing behind her.
"ʰ ʰⁱ ˢᵘˢⁱᵉ" Alphys whispered, unaware that the other girl was behind her.
The brawny purple lizard takes a few steps in and (Y/n) became visible and just stood by the doorframe.
"...are we late?"
"ʷ "ʷᵉ"? ˢʰᵉ ᵐᵘˢᵗ ᵇᵉ ᵗᵃˡᵏⁱⁿᵍ ᵃᵇᵒᵘᵗ ʸⁿ ʰᵘʰ" Alphys muttered to herself again, just before noticing (Y/n)'s pressuring stare.
"Ohh, n-no! You're fine! W-we were just, uh...." She trailed off.
"Ch-choosing partners for the next group project, and... Umm, Susie, (Y/n), you're with Kris!"
"...great."
Alphys smiles weakly as she turns to the class, sweating profusely. "N-now that everyone's here, I'll write the assignment!"
She walks over to her desk to find some pristine white chalk... but there was nothing there.
She looks around frantically before facing the class again. "Uhh.... H-has anyone seen the chalk? This is the third time it's gone missing, and... Y-you all know I can't start class without some!"
No one in class speaks up. That's... expected.
"H-how about this? If no one speaks up... E-everyone gets in trouble!" Alphys called for help.
...But no one answered.
"A... Anyone? P... Please?"
After a while someone spoke up.
"Hey, there might be a box in the supply closet..." Noelle noted to herself "Miss Alphys, why don't Susie and I..." She continued, as Alphys interrupted her.
"G-good idea, Noelle! Susie, s-since you and (Y/n) came in last... Why don't you go get it for me...?" She smiled towards the two.
"...whatever." Susie grumbles leaving with the (s/c) human before closing the door shut.
"And K... Kris... Can you go with them and make sure they... Um, actually get it? And, um, stay out of trouble...?"
Kris nods.
"Thanks Kris! See you later!"
Bruh moment.
They exit their homeroom class only to see Susie eating chalk and (Y/n) writing something on her notebook.
Susie notices their presence and turns to face them with a smug on her face. "...Kris. Didn't see you there."
She turns away, watching (Y/n) writing down a fake hall pass. "You didn't see anything just now, did you?" She queried Kris, who didn't answer in return.
"Hmm... you can't even say?" Clearly irked at the silence they gave her.
"Kris..."
The meek girl had finished writing the phony hall pass and turned around to see Susie cornering Kris by the lockers.
She quickly writes something on her notebook before approaching the two and tapping the tall girl's shoulder.
"What is it?" Susie softens her voice down and turned to the (h/c) girl.
She shows Susie her notebook, which the words wrote, "I finished writing the forged pass."
"That's great, lemme wreck this freak first—"
She inhales a shaky breath, "Y-you... let go.. of them... f-first." She finishes, her words trembling as her face reddens from embarrassment, holding her notebook tightly which covered her mouth when she spoke.
Kris widens their eyes as this was the first time they heard her spoke.
Susie turned her body to hers, she remembers how she only talked when the two of them were alone in her room, but even then she only spoke bits and pieces of words. She lets out a 'Hmph!' then turns back to Kris.
"Kris," She began, letting her grip go. "You've got a good mother. It'd be a shame to make her bury her child."
(Y/n) writes something on her notebook again and showed it to Kris. "I'm sorry for pulling you in this mess."
"It's fine." He mouthed, as he's unsure whether she understands sign language or not. She just nods at his word.
"Alright, let's get this over with." Susie monotonely cheered, as (Y/n) closes her notebook.
"We'll get more chalk, mosey back to class, and then, Kris... You'll do our project."
Before he could open his mouth, Susie had already spoken over him. "Don't even bother answering. In case you forgot, none of your choices matter."
"Come on. Let's go (Y/n).... you too, freak." The girls began walking away, as Kris takes his time to take a breather from the lizard girl's torment.
Lagging behind from the two, both of them had noticed how achingly slow he is.
"Holy shit, you walk fucking slower than she does."
(Y/n) pouted at her comment. It was kinda true eitherway, as her muscular friend would always drag her to wherever they would go.
Like that one time where her sister, Mercedes, brought both of them to a casino—which was a really bad idea, as (Y/n) gambled a quarter of what was inside of her own credit card.
The two of them just ran and ran, hoping to escape Mercedes' wrath.
"What? Not used to not getting your hand held?" She snickered.
Kris doesn't say anything and looks over to (Y/n), first time they'd ever seen her pout too, which was cute in a way.
They just continued on their way, reaching the supply closet eventually.
"Well, here's the closet, too bad, we all were just starting to have fun."
(Y/n) slowly opens the doors, only to be met with a never-ending darkness. She takes a few steps back, noticing the menacing aura that seeps out from the abyss.
"...Hey, guys, is it me or is it really dark in there?" Susie notes, with an agitated look on her face.
"I'll go in first." were the words that are written on the quiet girl's notebook.
Both Susie and Kris looked at her astonished, 'Such bravery!'
She's used to the dark, it used to scare her a lot, but when she went away to no one knows where for a few months, it just didn't. And it kinda freaked Susie out.
Before (Y/n) could even enter, Susie yanked her away, "Who knows what kind of things lurk in there, so...." She glances towards to Kris, "Kris, you go in first."
"I'd rather not.."
"Fine! Since you're such a wimp, we'll just go in together!
The three of them enter, only to see papers scattered across the floor.
"Huh, should've went with (Y/n)'s intuition." Susie mutters to herself, as the other two looked around the room.
They begin feeling up the walls, finding a light switch.
"Weird... there's no switch, maybe it's further in." They continue to walks around the darkness, but this supposed 'Supply Closet' was odd, why was it so long? Are there seriously no walls here?
(Y/n) wanted to note about the strange closet, since they were in the dark, no one could read what was on her notebook. With a shaky breath, she tries to speak again. "S-something's... wrong..." She breaths in, "W-with... this closet." Despite how hushed her voice was, both of them managed to hear it.
Her childhood friend couldn't help but to agree with her. "She's right, I think this closet is fucking broken, if Alphys wants chalk, she can get it herself."
They backtrack their way towards to the door, but then...
It was slammed closed.
Susie rushes over to the door, trying to pry it open, but it was useless. She then starts to bash on the doors, "HEY, OPEN THIS DOOR, THIS ISN'T FUNNY!"
The ground begins to shake, instinctively, (Y/n) grabs onto Kris as he was the one closest to her.
The floor seems to fall apart, falling onto the deep abyss. Susie back away, hitting Kris in the process which caused him to grip on the quiet girl even tighter.
As the last tile fell, all of them soon came following after. (Y/n) buried her face on the crook of his neck, as falling into the abyss wasn't one of the things she was prepared for.
The scene fades to black.
Seems like she landed on something soft.... or was it someone? She looks at down at her victim, pale blue skin, navy blue hair to match it, and they were wearing a knight get up. Uh oh. she must've killed this person when she fell on them.
But hold up, her usual outfit was replaced with a mecha-like armor, she also noticed that she was wearing a visor of some sorts, she pulled it off and stared at it, there was a giant rose insignia just above the fox-like eyes that were placed where her eyes were.
Since the person that's beneath her is still asleep, or presumably dead, she thought to use her cry of distress so Susie can easily find her. What... was it again? Oh yeah! it was,
"Nya."
The person thats she's sitting on bolted up, seemingly woken up from her noises. They stared at each other for a solid few minutes, after (Y/n) realizes that the person she was sitting on was Kris. Embarrassed, she stands up from her sitting place, which was his lap, and turned away.
"...Did you.. just say 'Nya'?"
As Kris asked that, she wanted the earth to swallow her whole.
A few seconds past by, he just brushed off the stuttering noises she made when she tried to explain. "Nanananananananananana—" He stopped her from trembling when he put a reassuring hand on her shoulder. She follows him with a large distance, watching as he touches a white star.
He looks at her title and info.
"Lv. 1 Human(?)
- For some reason can use MAGIC"
He then looks toward her spells.
"30% - Faerie Art
- Uses both Attack and Magic to do an attack with the speed of light."
Kris glances at her before urging her to follow him. She complies, slowly coming closer to him as this place slightly creeped her out.
He was her only ticket out of here, and for some reason, he pretty much knew where to go, at least she thought so.
They continue on their path, but they stopped when they got to a cliff with a slope.
"Hold on to me." He said, she simply nodded, clinging to him as they went down the slope.
As they continue on, they were attacked by the weird circle things with the thin body. Those things were throwing pellets at them, one of the bullets almost hitting (Y/n) but she managed to dodge it time.
The two of them managed to escape the bullet rain without either of them get scraped, what greeted them next was a puzzle.
Kris looks at the directions as the quiet girl did it. She manages to finish it in a few seconds. They continue on their way.
Man, who would've known that merging two quiet people together would be this eerily silent. But, it is what it is.
They encounter another slope, Kris offers her again but this time she says no. They go down, with (Y/n) sliding down first.
She has no way of communication as her notebook was nowhere to be found, so she'll be forced to use her voice from time to time. Even if it might be embarrassing to do so.
"U-um, Kris, should we check these white bushes?" She suggested in a hushed tone. Kinda surprised that she didn't stutter midway. She looks to see if she had a weapon, and she pulled out a claymore. It looked similar to the one she saw in a RPG game, although she wasn't even sure if she can lift this weapon properly.
She grips on the handle and swung it at the bush, nothing appeared. The both of them proceed to do this to the other bushes as they got to the last one they were greeted by Susie, "H-hey! B... back off! Come any closer and I'll—!" She calms down as she saw the two humans.
"(Y/n)?! Kris?! Phew...
Hey, don't scare me like that, you dumbass!"
(Y/n) giggles as she puts her weapon away, Kris did the same with his. It was nice hearing her laughter too, he thought.
"...Anyway, enough screwing around, we gotta find a way outta here." Susie looks at her surroundings.
"Ummm... Where is "here," anyway...?"
She snaps her head towards to Kris.
"It doesn't matter! You got us into this mess, YOU get us out!"
