Work Text:

Mew sat quietly in the hospital waiting room. His nerves were taut and he didn’t know what to do with his hands. He wrung them and then shook them out, then he clasped them tightly.

“P’Mew, relax,” Gulf soothed him softly, taking his large hands in his smaller ones. “It’s going to be ok.” He brought their hands to his mouth and kissed over his phi’s knuckles.

“I know, I know. I’m just so nervous. What if-”

“Don’t do that!” Gulf cut him off before he could start that downward spiral. “Everything is going to be fine. They are going to call us into the room very soon to prepare and then before we know it, we’ll be holding our beautiful new baby.”

“But-”

“No buts, Phi. This is a good day. Tell your nerves to shut up. We’re finally starting our own family, our first child is being born today. There’s no room for negativity.” Gulf told his husband sternly but softened his words by caressing the older man’s cheek slowly.

Mew took a deep breath, forcing down his worries. He leaned down, pressing a kiss to Gulf’s wedding ring, a small sunflower. “It’s really happening. We’re going to be parents,” he whispered in awe.

“Yes, we are,” Gulf agreed softly, stroking a finger over the sun etched into Mew’s wedding band.

“It’s time,” a nurse called to them, helping them wash and dress for the delivery room. They entered the room to see the young woman who didn't want a child but fortunately still chose to give it a life and home with Mew and Gulf. She was lying on the table, prepped for the cesarean section, biting her lip, obviously afraid.

They rushed over and held her hands and each other's. When the doctor began cutting her protruding belly, Gulf paled and looked away, down at the woman, offering her a slightly woozy smile. Mew stared intently, watching the entire process.

“Gulf,” he called softly, knowing his husband wanted to see the moment their child entered the world.

He swallowed thickly but braved looking over. It was like the gore wasn’t even present as he gazed at his tiny new son, as he drew a breath and squawked loudly. He watched amazed as Mew released their hands and accepted the child into his arms, still covered in thick fluids. Gulf had never seen something so beautiful. He felt his eyes welling up as they met Mew’s.

“Give me your arms, Tua-eng,” Mew instructed softly, carefully transferring their baby into the arms of his lover. “He’s really here.”

“He’s so perfect,” Gulf whispered, kissing the tiny forehead with tears running freely down his face.

Mew kissed Gulf's temple softly, stroking the baby’s soft cheek. He turned to the woman watching them. “Thank you, thank you so much.”

She smiled and shrugged a bit, looking away.

The rest of the day passed in a blur. They helped wash the infant and dress him in the cutest little sun and sunflower outfit, a gift from fans. As the moon rose in the sky, Mew held his husband in his arms. Their sweet little son lay sleeping a couple of feet away in the hospital bassinet.

“I’m so happy, Gulf. I didn’t even know it was possible to be this content.”

“Me too, Thilak. The moon is so beautiful tonight.”
