Work Text:
Percy and Annabeth have been going to university in New Rome for a few years, and it's needless to say that Annie has been thriving. She's always had that hunger for knowledge she inherited from her mother, and the University satiates it well with all the classes she can dream of and accommodations for their dyslexia and ADHD on top of it. It's the perfect learning environment for her, and she soaks it up.
Thanks to this, she ends up taking more classes than she intended. She was going to stick just to her architectural studies when it started, but then she got a good look at all of the classes offered and went a bit wild.
This leads to her taking Spanish, and in an effort to get more accustomed to it she starts saying the words around their apartment.
One day, they're cooking together and Percy gets blue food coloring all on his hands. When she notices she can't help but smile to herself, "Estás tan lindo."
He blinks and looks at her with a raised eyebrow, "Hm?"
She throws him a towel, "I told you to get that food coloring off your hands."
"Yeah, yeah, all right-" He smiles to himself and goes to get the blue of his hands.
Another night, Percy is reading over an article for his Marine Biology class while laying on their couch, taking up the entirety of it. Annie comes over with one of her books and smiles a bit at seeing him so engrossed in reading something for once. "Me hace feliz cuando estás feliz."
He blinks and looks away from his paper to her, "What'd you say?"
"I said move, you're taking up the whole couch." He pulls his legs back over to his side of the couch before she can sit on them, but he catches that smile before she can hide it again.
And on, and on, and on it goes. She covers up calling him "mi chico guapo" with "idiot", amending "cuando sueñas despierto estás tan bonito" to "focus!" and "te quiero" with "seaweed brain."
That is, until he rolls his eyes and smirks, "También te quiero, wise girl."
Percy walked off before his straight face could crack, leaving her stunned. Later on, he'll explain that he grew up speaking Spanish, and she'll defend that she had no idea since he's only spoken it with his mother and Leo. And then, predictably, Leo laughs at her about it the next time they see him since Percy kept him in the loop on this joke. And then Leo moves on to the next joke, which he decides to be only talking in morse code taps.
Annabeth decides there's another language she needs to learn, just to mess with him. What's a little payback between friends, right?
