Work Text:

Making off with humans was effortless, you had initially decided when you found yourself in a back alley with an unfamiliar man. It was really easy finding prey, but the ones with the good blood were always infinitely tough to find. In truth, you had given up finding a human with decent blood, seeing as out of the plentiful of humans you had drank from, none but a select handful were delicious. You didn’t care so much anymore about the taste of blood, as you always made it a rule to not drink from the same human more than once.

Erasing their memories was only a guaranteed thing for the first time you did it, and the second time would essentially be less effective. Your vampiric genetics weren’t as successful in evolution in comparison to other vampires, much to your chagrin. Others could feast from the same human over years, and the human still wouldn’t remember anything after the one hundredth time getting bitten. You supposed either your bloodline died with you, or you’d have to pray that a vampire with stronger genes would accept you into their creed, though you highly doubted that, considering the grade of your blood for evolution was much lower than preferred to most.

Still, you think as you bite into a middle aged man’s neck, lapping up excess blood that fell from the entry wounds with your tongue as you hold onto him, tiptoeing to keep your balance. You wished for someone at least within the vampiric aristocracy to relieve your bloodline of their wishes, you thought as you pulled away from the man with long hair, allowing him to fall to his knees as his cloudy, honey colored irises fell shut. When he had flopped over to the floor, you let out a soft, sweet sigh, smiling as you lick the edges of your lips, embracing the taste of his blood just a little longer.

He tasted good for someone his age, sweet like wine.

Lost in your thoughts, you don’t realize a boy your age standing at the other end of the alley, watching you with wide eyes, and when you do notice him, you freeze.

Indigo eyes meet your own, and what rattles you the most is the fact that those eyes, staring so deeply into your own when they meet, lacked any sort of fear.

The boy with dark hair, dressed in a familiar high school uniform, tosses you an oddly delighted smile, his eyes narrowing as he adjusts the strap of his bag on his shoulder. His eyes gleam with amusement.

And before you know it, he runs.

Your face pales, your eyes widening as you realize what’s just happened.

  Oh no.

 No, no, no, no, no!

In a hurried fashion, you bolt out of the alleyway, allowing your eyes to take the brunt of your powers as you sharpen your vision, scanning the late afternoon crowd for a familiar figure as you race around the block. You gulp and bite your lip, a fang almost digging into the skin of your lip as you think with hesitance at your own clumsiness. You had just been found out. You think to search from above, from the safety of rooftops for a moment as you reach a fairly large intersection in the town, watching with a slight sense of dizziness as people pass you, left and right, behind you and in front of you. You clench your teeth, furling your hands into fists as you continue to scan through the crowd, fear spiking from within you when you find nothing. The world knew of vampires, and they knew to ostracize them, or execute them upon finding out their identities. That’s why you had kept yourself so hidden, a plain looking high school student, with average grades with little to no social skills, since you had wanted to keep yourself alone , and away from any sort of attention.

Yet here you were, cleaning up after your own screw up.

After hours of searching, you return home to your shitty, small apartment room, sighing as you slide your shoes off at the doorway, feeling sweat stick to your skin as you remove your sling bag from your body. You wouldn’t be found out that easily, you rationalize your thoughts as you calm yourself from your two hour panic, moving to the shower as you strip off the rest of your clothes. What was the likeliness of that stranger knowing you, out of the hundreds and thousands of people walking around Inazuma?

With that thought, you allow yourself to relax the rest of the night, thinking as you focus on your homework for tomorrow that there would be no further problems to face. One slip up would be okay. You were sure of it. Everyone always makes that one mistake in their jobs after all, right?

You supposed that one mistake could also easily get people fired. Or killed, you think as you come face to face with a familiar male at the school gates early in the morning. Midway eating your melon bread, you freeze, your expression hardening as the dark haired male stares at you, leaning patiently on the fence with a friendly smile on his features. You realize his uniform was familiar because it was a second year’s attire from your school specifically. His indigo irises gleam with a knowingness that you feel has you at a chokehold, and when he raises an arm to wave at you, you want to die.

“Hello,” he greets you as he shifts his body away from the fence, nearing you with a smile so innocent you knew it only meant to lead you to bad times. You gulped down the rest of the melon bread in your mouth and averted your eyes nervously, hoping he was looking for someone else. When his shadow falls over you, his amble stopping short just an arm’s length away from you, your hopes die in your throat.

  Fuck.

You didn’t know what to expect. The bell signaling for lunch had tolled, and yet here he was. Standing in front of you as you attempted to leave your classroom. Your fellow third years whispered amongst themselves at the sight of him standing before you, and you couldn’t help but feel embarrassed at their sly comments and theorizing over your relationship with him. You wanted to roll up and die. Maybe you could feed off of him, you think as you toss him a nervous smile, laughing lightly as he returns your expression with an ingenuine smile, you could feed off of him and make him forget.

When you corner him later after school and mystify him with whatever is left over of your powers, you realize after feeding off of him, you have made a grave mistake. You notice a scoff leave his lips when you pull away, licking your lips habitually. And when your eyes meet his, you almost cough the blood back out. His eyes gleamed with amusement once more, a smirk playing on his lips as he raised a hand to feel at the nip on his neck. “So that’s what it feels like, hm?” He hums as he presses on the two entry wounds at his nape, and you watch in shock as he takes one of his bloodied fingers and presses it to his mouth. He laps his own blood off of his fingers and sticks a tongue out in disgust. “You like this kind of stuff, vampire?” He chuckles, giving you a moment to respond.

You don’t. You simply stare at him, baffled as you remember.

  He saw you yesterday.

“Hm, now that I think about it, I can’t really remember how we got to this alleyway. Can you alter people’s memories, too, vampire?”

Your memory erasure was only limited to a brief number of minutes before you had fed on your prey.

You want to bash your head into a wall. Or maybe, you should eat a million cloves of garlic. Or maybe you should confess your sins to the next clan of vampires you meet, and have yourself seen to the stakes. Or a classic guillotine.

The boy standing before you takes a step forward, and in response, you move a step backwards. He notices your expression and grins, a laugh escaping his lips, sounding surprisingly pleasant to your ears as he peers down at you from the thick of his eyelashes, through narrowed eyes. “How entertaining,” he comments as he nears you once more, and when you find your back is against a wall, he hums, his hands hidden behind him as he towers over you, “to think I, a mere mortal, could have power over a being such as yourself.”

You clench your teeth as you glare at him, feeling a rise of emotions bristle from within you, feeling like a prey, trapped in a corner with him looming over you.

“Let’s have some more fun, shall we?”

His idea of fun is strange, you think as every day after that seems to be normal, aside from the fact that the two of you now eat together, behind a shade of a wall on the rooftop. He seems to take great interest in you, though you don’t entirely mind. You were used to being questioned, somewhat, and answering with lies was easy. Just not with him, you think as you attempt to hide one of your lies that he had clearly seen through with a nervous smile.

You found out his name was Kunikuzushi, a second year student who aimed to become a top rated surgeon, though you found his reasoning to be one was more insane than not. He wished to be a surgeon solely for the sake of having a possibility to dissect one of your kind one day. He wanted to find out what made some of the vampires immortal, what made them live forever, though he knew that this was a case that had already been studied on. The online articles were nothing but garbage, saying that they “understood why vampires could live so long”, when the truth was, they knew nothing. Most vampires themselves didn't even know why they lived so long, and those who thought they could live immortally, much like the legends of the twin vampires Aether and Lumine, had somehow come to die after a few millennia.

When you tell this to Kunikuzushi, he asks you if you know anything about the topic aside from internet related talks.

 You shrug.

You weren’t an average vampire, you were the lowest grade of all. You weren’t alive for long either, you were probably just a year or two older than Kunikuzushi himself, though of course, you don’t tell him this.

You keep as much information about yourself as private as possible.

Even when the two of you eventually start dating after a couple of months. Kunikuzushi is beyond strange, you especially understand that when he asks you to feed off of him and him only whenever you feel the need to satisfy your blood cravings.

“Why would I feed off of my own human partner,” you reason, thinking you didn’t want to hurt him or make him forget anything after you bit him. When you ask him this, both of you are in the safety of your own home, sitting next to each other on your run down couch as a cartoon plays on the television before the both of you.

Kunikuzushi glares at you, and you notice from your peripherals as you focus on the scene unrolling from within the TV. “Who else do you plan to feed on,” he scowls, nudging you with his elbow in annoyance when you don’t return his gaze, “tell me.”

“I don’t know,” you reply honestly, sighing as you pull away from him, allowing yourself to plop to the cushion to your right side as you relax into it, “anybody but you, maybe?” Kunikuzushi doesn’t seem appeased by your answer. He tugs at the end of your shirt, and you turn to face him, your eyes tired as you let out a small hum.

“So you’re telling me,” he growls as he moves above you, and you yelp at his sudden motions, panicking momentarily before he stills you, trapping you beneath him, “you want to kiss someone else’s neck.”

You cringe at his explanation, feeling slightly baffled by his words. His indigo eyes stare down at you, and your anxiety feels surprisingly alleviated from the lack of affection in his eyes. At least you knew he wasn’t going to try anything funny. “I don’t kiss people’s necks,” you hiss back, feeling annoyed by his accusation, “I bite them to feed off of them,” you push him off of you angrily, pulling yourself up as you do so, disliking his sudden intrusion to your space, “and it’s not like I want to do that, I just have to to survive.” You deadpan at Kunikuzushi’s somewhat hurt expression, noticing his jawline had sharpened from how he had clenched his teeth. “You can’t be serious right now,” you sigh as you switch the TV off with a remote, wanting to speak to him with all earnestness.

Kunikuzushi crosses his legs, his gaze never leaving yours as he continues to glare at you. “ You can’t be serious right now,” he lets out an aggravated sigh of his own, brushing his hair back with a hand before he fixes his bangs, “ you want to get intimate with strangers, but not with me?”

You take a deep breath in an attempt to calm yourself, “I am not being intimate with strangers,” you reply in a hiss as you furrow your eyebrows at him. You take a moment to gauge his expression before slumping your shoulders in defeat, “I just don’t want to hurt you like that,” you begin as you fall back onto the comfort of the plush cushion behind you, “because, I like you a little,” you look away, feeling heat crawl onto your face as you turn your head.

You take a moment, and silence dawns between the both of you at your abrupt confession. Feeling your face turn red, you shuffle your body away from Kunikuzushi’s. What were you doing, you think as you feel warmth swell in your chest, you two were already dating, you’ve told him you’ve liked him before, so why are you embarrassed now!?

“..Okay,” Kunikuzushi tentatively begins, drawing closer to you once more, noticing your embarrassed expression as he scoffs, “what’re you all embarrassed about?”

“Dunno,” you respond hastily as you attempt to bury your face into the pillow. He crawls above you, and your heart hammers at your chest, feeling flustered at the feeling of his eyes so intently on you. You feel his fingers brush away strands of your hair, tucking them behind your ear, and suddenly, he pauses.

“Then,” he starts again, his voice sounding strange to your ears as he places his hands on your wrists, pulling them towards each side of your head as he lowers himself, “ let me try it.”

You hum lazily, unsure of what he means until you feel his lips on the side of your neck, his lips soft against the skin of your nape. You let out a yelp, and when you try to turn your head, he suddenly bites down, eliciting a pained gasp from your lips as you feel his teeth tear through the delicate skin of your neck. “W-Wait,” you stutter, managing to angle your head slightly to face him, though he doesn’t seem to care.

He buries his head by the side of your face, his hair ticklish as it brushes against your cheeks, and with his lips still on your neck, he sucks. You shut your eyes as more heat travelled to your face. This felt strange, you think as he interchanges between kissing your neck, biting it and sucking at it, it felt strange having someone else try to feed on you. Was this how it felt for your victims? You freeze completely when you feel his tongue on your neck, lapping at your wounds before sucking on your neck once more, this time, a little higher, closer to your ear in comparison to where he had bit before.

A soft, sweet noise leaves your lips and you shudder before you freeze up completely. Kunikuzushi freezes in place too. You avert your wide eyes nervously. When he pulls away to gaze at you, you finally muster up the courage to stare back at him. Kunikuzushi stares down at you with a frenzied look in his eyes, his cheeks red as he memorizes every inch of your embarrassed face before him. His throat felt dry.

You clench your teeth, feeling embarrassed once more as you speak, “Are you satisfied?” You whisper meekly as you attempt to be let out of his grip. Your eye catches his tongue darting out from in between his lips, swiping over his upper lip as he continues to maintain his intense stare down at you. You purse your lips, clenching your teeth as he lowers himself once more. You shut your eyes milliseconds before his lips crash onto yours, feeling his hands travel up your wrist to interlock with your fingers as he kisses you hungrily, nibbling on your lower lip and pulling it slightly before letting it go, only to kiss you once more. You hold onto his hands as he kisses you, finding yourself kissing back with just as much aggression as he does as time passes.

When he pulls away, the both of you are panting, out of breath from the lack of air being given in between the exchanges, your faces both red as you stare at each other. You glare up at him weakly as you notice an unfamiliar look in his eyes, thinking that he looked as though he hadn’t eaten in days. Before you could register it, he’s back to biting your neck, listening to your small gasps, leaving marks wherever he could as his tongue laps up the blood from your wound earlier. You think he’s satisfied when he pulls away once more, a pleased smile on his face as he grins down at you, his eyes narrowing at your expression.

“On second thought,” he begins, his smile widening when you notice the sultry tone that laces his voice, “I don’t care what you say. Feed off of me and me only,”   he hums as lets his body weigh over yours, and you let out a small huff at the sudden weight of his body above you. You find that you’re too embarrassed to respond, especially when he kisses one of your flushed cheeks. “I’m satisfied for now, though, if you’re still wondering,” Kunikuzushi chuckles, “though I must say that I make an excellent vampire, don’t you think? Getting such a reaction from you, I mean.”

“No, I don’t think,” you say internally, unable to say it out loud as you let out a troubled breath. You can’t think, he left you hardly able to think! Kunikuzushi chuckles at your lack of response, smiling against your cheek. When one of his hands leaves yours to cradle your body against his, you can’t help but sigh as you regain your breath.

 A human, and a vampire.

 What a mess.
