Chapter 1: Introductions

Chapter Text

19 year old Izuku Midoriya was suffering from amnesia.

“BE CAREFUL WITH HIM!!” his mother demanded, tears stinging her eyes more than they had when he first made it into U.A

“We’ll do everything we can for him, Miss Midoriya. Your son is in good hands.”

It took the greenette three weeks to wake up, but once he did, he didn’t remember a thing. All he could remember were his mother and that he was in the hospital.

“Nngh…” he groaned, sitting up and rubbing his temples, “...Mom?” he asked, fear lacing his face for a moment before a nurse poked her head in the doorway.

“Ah, you’re awake! That’s good! I was ordered by Dr.Mulligan to take a quick look at your I.V and the pain medication we have you on, then you have a visitor. Is that alright with you?” the nurse asked as she walked over and set her clipboard on one of the small tables.

“Uhm...yeah, that’s fine.” Izuku replied as he looked around the room. The room was white, small yellow lines painted near the bottom of the walls, an I.V drip by his bed, and a window with yellow curtains to his right.

“Perfect!” the nurse said as she made sure everything was in its proper place, “Since you just woke up, you’re going to have to take some pain medication for your broken leg and-”

“No.” Izuku said, twiddling his thumbs with anxiety as he spoke, “I...don’t need pain medication. I’ll be fine.”

"Well...then I guess the visitor is much needed." The nurse said, gathering her things back up and walking out, "I'll send him in!"

Izuku waited for a few moments before a ravenette man walked in the room, gripping a leash in his hand.

"Hello Midoriya. My name is Shota Aizawa, your teacher at U.A." the man stated, the leash fidgeting in his hand.

"Okay…? Did you- need something?" Izuku asked, playing with the sheets on his bed.

"I just need to introduce you to someone." Aizawa said, pulling the leash closer to him.

Izuku heard something move, then a few seconds of growling before the black haired man shushed it.

Then, a blonde hybrid walked in, sniffing around with his ears perked high up in the air. Izuku looked at the blonde, then slid off his bed, his leg in a cast, and watched the hybrid as he walked over to Izuku and began to sniff him.

"H-hello there…" Izuku said, leaning back on his hands as a way to slightly distance himself, "this is new…" he thought to himself, then he sighed gently, the blonde's tail wagging violently.

"His name is Katsuki. If you'd like, he'll be taking care of you from now on. I heard from the nurse who was just in here that you're being a tad stubborn with your medication, so this might be necessary." Aizawa said, crossing his arms and leaning on the doorframe.

"But I don't need pain medication. My leg is just fine." Izuku argued, annoyance crossing his face.

"Midoriya, you need to-" Aizawa began, though the nurse poked her head in the doorway and smiled, cutting the ravenette off.

"Oh good! He likes you! Would you like him as your companion, Mr.Midoriya?" She asked, her face lighting up.

"Uhm-...s-sure!" Izuku stammered, the hybrid still practically sprawled out all over him.

The ravenette nodded, then walked off without so much as a goodbye. The nurse then shut the door, leaving her patient and his new companion to get to know each other better.

"Hello! You're...pretty friendly, aren't you?" Izuku asked as he stood back up, regaining his balance and giggling to himself.

The hybrid stood in front of him and smiled, his teeth poking out of his mouth.

"Only with people I like." The blonde spoke for the first time, Izuku staring up at him.

The hybrid was huge. Well not huge, but rather bulky and strong. He was quite tall, about 5'11 in stature compared to his 5'8 companion, he had spiky blonde hair, his eyes were red and seemed to always be glaring at something, and, at the moment, he had a snarl-like smile on his face.

"So you're a service dog? I've never met one before…" Izuku said, sitting back down on the edge of his bed as the blonde sat down right back down by the side of the bed.

"A service hybrid to be exact. I've never done work like this before though. I guess I've got kind of a bad reputation as a hybrid." Katsuki replied, flicking something off the ground with his rather long nails.

"Right...I guess that makes sense. When did they hire you as a service hybrid?" The greenette asked, swinging his good leg back and forth.

"About a month ago." The blonde replied, and that was the end of their conversation.

Ever since Izuku had gotten diagnosed with amnesia, he hadn't spoken much. As for the hybrid sitting at his feet, he was naturally quiet. Neither of them spoke for a half an hour before Izuku looked down, tempted to ask Katsuki a question.

"Hey...can I ask you something?" He voiced, Katsuki turning to look at him with a small, concerned look on his face.

"Shoot." Katsuki said, curling up on the floor, which looked quite uncomfortable to Izuku.

"Um- why exactly did they assign you to me?" The greenette wondered aloud, his heart pounding in his chest.

"The guy that brought me here told me that you had a pretty bad panic attack as they were taking you back to the emergency room, so I was assigned to help you when you have more." The blonde replied, his tail thumping loudly on the floor as he spoke.

"Right...I forgot about that. I mean- I forgot a lot of things, but mainly that." Izuku said, laying down as the sun began to set behind the window.

"Makes sense." Katsuki said, laying his head down on his hands as he stared up at the greenette.

"You can.. sleep up here if you want to. Just sleep at the foot of the bed." Izuku said to which Katsuki respond by standing, walking over, then crawling on the bed and curling up at the end of it.

"Sleep well, Izuku." Katsuki said before shutting his eyes, Izuku, having been exhausted, already asleep.

The greenette woke up in the middle of the night to a dry throat and heavy eyes. He pulled the blanket off of himself, which woke up Katsuki, then grabbed the I.V drip and began to make his way down the hall, Katsuki trailing behind him.

"What are you doing?" Katsuki asked, startling Izuku as the greenette shrieked.

"AH! Oh...Kacchan...I'm just getting some water super fast. My throat is dry." The greenette replied, the pain in his leg making him sweat.

"I see. You're sweating though. Are you in pain?" Katsuki asked, looking around the small lobby area as he spoke.

"N-no! Of course not! Agh...ow…" Izuku said, leaning down for a moment, looking like he was going to puke.

"You're lying. Let me get it for you." Katsuki said, though Izuku shook his head and stood back up.

"I said I'm fine." Izuku protested, though he was limping as he made it over to the water tank and filled up a small paper cup with water.

Katsuki then helped him back to his room, allowing the greenette to walk on his own for half of the trek back before he allowed Izuku to drape his arm over his shoulder, carrying him back to his room with ease.

The hybrid was hot, much warmer than the surrounding hospital. Izuku was panting now, the pain getting the best of him as he laid down on his bed, exhausted.

"We'll be discharging you later today, but please be mindful of your now prominent health issues." Dr.Ogami, the man who had been taking care of Izuku, said as he handed him a few pill bottles. Izuku stuffed them in a duffle bag one of the doctors had brought him.

"I understand." Izuku said, nodding gently and smiling, "Thank you for taking care of me."

"Our pleasure, sir." The doctor said, then he gathered his things and began to walk out, stopping in the doorway, "The hybrid will be going with you, as you may have figured out already."

"Understood. Thank you." The greenette said, looking over at Katsuki.

Katsuki had been growling quietly at the doctor the whole time, already being quite protective of his patient.

Izuku couldn't wait to be released from the hospital, a new companion with him.
