“there are only two in the chamber,” he’d said, looking at jaehyun with a tangible severity as he’d passed the weapon over to his only son, “one for the trip there and one for the trip back, so don’t plan on getting into too much trouble.” he’d watch jaehyun hold the gun almost awkwardly for a few moments before adding, “if you run into a pack, shoot the biggest one you can see; he’s probably the alpha. then, do everything you can to get the hell out of there.”
his instructions had been straightforward enough. truth be told, jaehyun had never been afraid of wolves, despite their historical penchant for killing vampires — perhaps on account of his generally fearless disposition, and perhaps on account that he’d never actually seen one in the flesh. all he’d known of them had come from encounters detailed by his father and the other patriarchs of the community; stories which painted pictures of snarling, oafish savages fostering no culture outside of violence and breeding.
