Work Text:

"Are you ready?" Kirishima yelled from the other room while Bakugou leaned on the back of the couch, impatiently tapping his foot.

"Just hurry up, idiot!" Bakugou yelled back.

Bakugou was already wearing his costume, the two of them went shopping as soon as the costume stores opened for the season; something Bakugou caught on pretty quick in their years at U.A was that Kirishima loved Halloween.

Each year, ever since they were in high school, Kirishima would drag him out of the residence and to the mall, where they could look for costumes together. One year they were an angel and devil - Bakugou being the angel since Kirishima’s hair better fit a devil. When they were younger, it seemed so innocent to have matching costumes with each other, as best friends. But it took them until 3rd year to actually realize that they liked each other as more than friends.

Kirishima was the first to say something, of course, since Bakugou would rather die than express his feelings. Since they’ve been together for almost 3 years, and have moved in together, Bakugou has grown a soft spot for Kirishima, something Kirishima had to get used to - considering for the majority of their time at U.A., Bakugou would always call him “Shitty hair”, it was a big change when he started calling him nicknames like “Eij”, or even occasionally “Babe”.

Back in the living room, Bakugou stood in his werewolf costume, consisting of ripped up jeans, a flannel shirt with fur stuffed at his chest, and some ears hidden in his hair. Kirishima helped him put on the costume an hour or so prior. But Kirishima wanted his costume to be a surprise.

“Ok…Close your eyes!” Kirishima yelled once he was ready.

Bakugou scoffed, “Fine.” Then he closed his eyes, bringing his hands to cover his eyes. “They’re closed.”

Bakugou stood there for a couple seconds before hearing the door to the bathroom open, then footsteps approaching him moments later.

Kirishima rustled with his costume before taking a deep breath. “Ready.”

Bakugou then uncovered his eyes to see Kirishima standing there in a vampire costume. He wore a velvet red waistcoat, with a white ruffled button up, and a big cape that had a red standup collar. His hair stood up as per usual, and there was a some blood dripping down the side of his mouth.

“Wow.” Bakugou raised his eyebrows once analyzed Kirishima’s costume.

‘Wow’ ?” Kirishima tilted his head. “Is that a good ‘Wow’ or bad?”

“It’s just wow.”

Kirishima walked up to Bakugou and hit him on the shoulder. “You’re rude.”

Bakugou brought his hand to rub his shoulder, like he was actually injured by Kirishima’s backhand. “Ow..”

“Whatever.” Kirishima walked away and toward the mirror in the living room. “I think it’s great.” He opened his mouth to adjust the fangs that were attached to his already sharp teeth.

Bakugou got up and walked up behind Kirishima, resting his head on his shoulder. “I’m kidding,” He placed a small kiss on his neck. “You look amazing.”

“Hey!” Kirishima turned around to face Bakugou. “Neck kissing is my thing!”

“Oh, are they now?” Bakugou teased, tilting his head.

“Yeah! I’m the vampire here.” Kirishima waved his arms in front of him, showing his outfit.

“Ah…I see.. So what do werewolves do?” Eat people?” Bakugou backed up, heading to the kitchen.

“Bark?” Kirishima followed behind him, leaning himself in the doorway.

“You did not just ask me to bark.” Bakugou looked over, narrowing his eyes.

“I was kidding!” Kirishima held his hands up in defence.

Bakugou gave him another death glance then moved his attention to the box of candy he had to empty into a bowl.

Ever since they graduated, and moved in together, Kirishima loved giving candy out to the kids, and as much as Bakugou hated to admit it, he gradually started liking it too - but it was all motivated by the smile Kirishima got on his face at all the kids in their hero costumes.

Though, Kirishima has yet to see a Red Riot costume, he always hoped each year that he’d see a kid with it on.

“Can you go turn on the porch light? I can already hear the kids running around outside.” Bakugou looked over at Kirishima.

Kirishima gave a quick nod then ran up to the front door, turning the light switch to outside.

Bakugou made his way behind Kirishima, placing the bowl of candy on a table near the door. He grabbed Kirishima’s hand, and started walking him towards the couch.

“What scary movie do you want to watch?” Bakugou sat him down on the couch, then sat himself down beside Kirishima.

“We can’t watch a movie! The kids will keep interrupting us.” Kirishima protested, trying to take the remote out of Bakugou’s hand.

“What would we do instead? We always play board games, I thought I’d be fun to switch things up this year.” Bakugou fended himself away from Kirishima’s hand, turning on the T.V.

Kirishima sighed, looking forward at the T.V. seeing Bakugou scroll through the channels. “Fine… But I won’t want to be interrupted, so you’ll have to hand out the candy.”

Bakugou looked over at Kirishima with a smile on his face. “Whatever you say.”

Seconds later, the doorbell rang. Kirishima looked over at Bakugou then beckoned his head towards the door, indicating to Bakugou that he had to go give the kids candy.

“Ok, you pick the movie.” Bakugou handed the remote to Kirishima, then walked to the front door.

Once he got to the door, he unlocked it, picking up the bowl before opening the door to be met with three kids dressed up in a Hawks, All Might, and Endeavour costumes.

Though All Might had retired long ago, since he was such a big influence on kids, they still continued making costumes for him.

“Trick or Treat!” The three kids said synchronously.

Bakugou was a bit surprised by the costume choices, but decided to play the part of a good person and say, “Wow! Great costumes!” Before placing one piece of candy in the kids dressed as Hawks and Endeavour, and then two pieces for the kid wearing the All Might costume.

With that, the kids scurried off, and Bakugou closed the door, placing the bowl of candy on the table and heading back to the couch where Kirishima sat.

“Still haven’t found a movie?” Bakugou sat down, noticing Kirishima still scrolling.

“Nope, can’t find anything good.” Kirishima didn’t take his eyes off the T.V., continuously scrolling.

“Here lemme see,” Bakugou took the remote and just put on the first movie that he scrolled to, not knowing anything about it.

“Hey! You just picked a random movie!” Kirishima took back the remote, to see what it was about.

“You were just going to spend hours looking, I just sped up the process.” Bakugou read the info along with Kirishima. “And look! It sounds like the perfect horror movie.”

“You know I get scared by horror movies!” Kirishima turned, grabbing a pillow from beside him and huddling up to it.

“I’m sure it’s not going to be that scary.” Bakugou said before hearing another knock on the door. “I’ll be back soon, don’t miss me.” Bakugou winked before leaving the living room, shutting off the main light afterwards, getting a small jump out of Kirishima.

Bakugou was met with another kid, with no unusual hero costume, not one that he recognized anyways. He gave him the candy, and then shut the door. When he was walking back, he made sure to stay on his tip toes, creeping towards Kirishima, still wrapped around the pillow.

“Boo!” Bakugou quickly placed his hands on Kirishima’s shoulders, making him jolt up out of his seat. Bakugou instantly broke into a laughter, sitting down beside Kirishima.

“Don’t do that!” Kirishima punched his shoulder, again. “Of course you had to pick the movie that starts off scary.” He looked back at the screen. “I’ve already been jumpscared a couple times.” He hid his head in the pillow.

“Sorry, sorry.” Bakugou tried to stop himself from laughing anymore. “I couldn’t help myself.”

The two of them continued watching the movie, with Bakugou leaving every couple minutes to hand out candy to the trick or treaters. After a while, Bakugou got tired of going back and forth, so even though he was no where close to finishing the candy, he said to himself that the next person to come up to the door was going to be the last one, so he could spend some more time with Kirishima without being interrupted frequently.

When Bakugou heard that final knock, he got up from the couch, making his way to the door, his eyes widened when he was met with what costume the kid was wearing - He was wearing a Red Riot costume.

“No way.” Bakugou said before turning to yell into the living room. “Eij! Come here real quick!”

“What?” Kirishima yelled from the other room, pausing the movie.

“Just come here, there’s something I wanna show you.” Bakugou turned back to the kid, “Just one second.” He placed a piece of candy in the kids bag.

Kirishima turned the corner to walk up to the door, “What is i-“ He cut himself off once he saw the kid at the door. “Oh my god!” He ran up to the door, kneeling down in front of the very confused kid.

“It’s me! Red Riot!” Kirishima said to the kid, enthusiastically. Once he realized the kid was still very confused, he activated his Quirk on his hand, hardening it. “Look!”

With that, the kid’s eyes lightened up. “Mom!” The kid turned to his mom who was at the end of the driveway. “It’s Red Riot!” He turned back around, taking Kirishima’s hand, and dragging him out of the house.

Bakugou watched as Kirishima was dragged off, leaning in the doorway with a his arms crossed smiling. He watched as Kirishima conversed with the mom, then took a picture with the kid. This was the reason why he loved Halloween so much, just to see Kirishima be happy.

When Kirishima walked back, a smile plastered on his face, he grabbed Bakugou’s arm. “Can you believe it?” He turned around to see the kid walking off with his mom. “A kid dressing up as me.” His smile didn’t leave his face.

“It’s amazing.” Bakugou took Kirishima’s hand. “I don’t think anything’ll top that, so how about we just go finish the movie?”

Kirishima nodded, walking back inside and closing the door.

Bakugou turned off the porch light, then lead them to the couch. He laid down, then picked up the remote, looking over to see Kirishima grabbing the pillow again, cuddling up to it, and he couldn’t help but feel jealous.

“Eij,” He lifted his arm up. “C’mon.”

Kirishima instantly ditched the pillow, then wrapped himself under Bakugou’s arm, laying down at his chest. Bakugou let his arm rest on Kirishima’s side while they continued watching the movie.

At any point the movie got too scary, Kirishima would tighten his grip on Bakugou. By the time the movie ended, Bakugou looked down at Kirishima, who had fallen asleep however long ago. He decided to not bother him, and closed his own eyes, letting the night take him.

He wished he could stay like that forever.
