Work Text:
She wasn’t going to cry.
He was going to be gone for a full year. They both knew this was the best thing for him - there’s no good reason to pass up a fully sponsored exchange program.
Haruka had worked hard for this, and he deserved it. He’s chasing his dreams, and she’s going to make sure to be there every step of the way for him.
He wasn’t the biggest fan of being gone that long either. She made sure to reassure him that they would both absolutely be fine. Video calls everyday, visits on holidays, you know? It’ll work out. They both definitely knew that he absolutely had to take this chance.
She wasn’t really sure who she was convincing.
Whatever, she was going to make sure to be the strong one for him. After all, she was the super cool Lightning Dancer (please never mention that name to anyone else Haruka).
The night before was pretty hard. They flipped through some dumb tourist videos for where he was going. Some small talk here and there. Hopefully the night wouldn’t end.
The morning after came too fast.
She didn’t cry when she helped him load his luggage into the car. Don’t want to drop it, of course.
She didn’t cry when she was driving him to the airport. Safe driving and all.
She didn’t cry when they checked in his luggage. See you on the other side, frog charms.
The hardest part. Once he got past the gate, that would be it. He looked back one last time.
“Text me when you land, okay?” She wanted the first word.
“And make sure to have fun without me!” Maybe a joke would work.
He cracked a small smile.
“...Okay. I’ll call you when I land.” A slight pause. “I’ll miss you.”
Neither really knew what to say.
“I know.”
She pulled him down and gave him the most passionate kiss she could. Takane’s first thought was that this was a little too cheesy, especially at an airport. But seriously, fuck it. She gets why people do it now, and she’s going to own it.
“It’ll be fine, okay? We’ll visit each other. It’s a year, not forever. You’ll be back.” They were both flushed, be she thinks it was the best move.
He’s lightening up. “Yeah, you’re right. We’ve been through more. We can do anything!”
“You know it.” There he was.
“Well, you should go now. Don’t want to risk missing your flight.”
“Right. We’ll call everyday, okay?” Absolutely. “Bye, Takane.”
“Bye, Haruka. See you soon.” Cool as ever.
They waved at each other, and that was that.
She cried at the airport after she couldn’t see him anymore. She lasted pretty long, to be honest.
