Work Text:

Valentine’s Day has always been Senpai's favorite holiday. He loved chocolate and roses. It was sweet to watch various couples show love to each other. It was even the day that previously the girls of his school would worship the ground that he walked on. Good times. Oh and it was also his birthday, he got twice the amount of gifts because of it.

In a few days, another holiday may take the place of his favorite. Halloween. Halloween was a holiday that Sen never thought much about. Before he was trapped in that game he could only remember celebrating it slightly. He was a fearful child so he never even got that much into it. Things have changed with him dating a lemon-headed monster and being a half freak himself. Though he was not only excited to spend time with his creepy boyfriend to celebrate, they had plans to babysit two Halloween-obsessed kids. Two kids that despite being wild, Sen loved liked his own nephews.

It was going to be fun!

“So Lem, what exactly are we and the kids doing on Halloween? Oh my goodness, we are going to have so much fun. Do you think the prince costume I have planned will look good?“ Senpai asked his monster as they cleaned up dishes together.

“Sen about that…” Lem sighed.

“What?”

“Skid and Pump said they don’t want you to come.”

Sen felt his face run cold before letting out a gasp, “Excuse me??”

“The kids said they just want to hang out with me and not you.”

“Again. Excuse me?“

“They said you aren’t spooky enough.”

He knew that they were right. Senpai was shiny and cute, far from what was the usual requirement for Halloween. That didn’t make him any less pissed.  “Do those gremlins even know about my spirit form and how frightening it is?”

"You never use it, you just look like this most of the time.”

"Well, because it’s disgusting."

"I don’t agree with that, but that is the point. You aren’t scary enough for Halloween."

"What do you guys even plan to do?" Sen rolled his eyes. He could not believe a couple of kids were saying he was not cool enough right now.

"Lila just wants me to watch them to make sure they’re safe. We are going to go trick-or-treat first and then go to some abandoned houses."

"And I really cannot come?" Sen rolled his eyes.

"I don’t know Sen? I promise I'll come back early and watch some Halloween specials with you.  Before that, you can spend the night with Lila to hand out some candy."

“I wanted to spend time with you and them!”

Lem reached over to brush his small boyfriend’s hair. His anger was making his hair messy.  “That is sweet Sen! But maybe this is for the best. I wouldn’t want you to get scared being out there with us.” Sen slapped his hand away causing Lem to just burst out laughing.

“I wouldn’t! Can you just say you are sick or something so I can just watch them? I have never had a real Halloween night in all my life.”

“Sen no. Halloween is a special night for me too. It is the only night I can walk around with humans without worrying about them raising their pitchforks.”

“-oh” Sen didn’t want to take that away from Lem. “I’ll just leave you guys.”

“I’m sorry Sen maybe I should just convince th-"

“NO! Begging a bunch of kids to drag me along is pitiful. I’ll be fine.” Lem nodded in understanding. And lowered himself down to give Sen a messy tongue kiss that messed up his hair. Sen groaned at the touch.

Lem giggled, pulling away and said, “I’m going to bed. I am going to get up early to do some early morning hunting. Would you like to come with me?”

“No. I’ll join you later.” Sen crossed his arms.

Lem could see Sen still had a grumpy attitude and he knew the best way to handle it was just letting him cool off. By the morning he knew he would be better. “Night Sen, I love you!”

“I love you too Lemon Demon.” Sen said back like a robot.

Sen watched Lem leave. He decided to go sit on the couch in silence for a little bit. The plans and fun he wanted to have with them were ruined. He was going to look ridiculous handing out candy to snotty random-ass kids.

No. This was unacceptable. He used everything in his power to crawl his way out of a dating sim he wasn’t going to be left behind anymore. He was going to show his boyfriend and his crazy nephews how scary he could actually be.

Sen then went to the closest to pull out a long dark blanket and scissors. When Lem went out this morning he had his own hunting to do. Well, more actually sales hunting at a costume store for some perfect items.

Halloween finally came and thankfully Lem noticed that Sen seemed to have a better attitude about the whole thing. He also noticed that Sen seemed to be planning something in secret. Lem suspected it must have had to do with the kids. He just hoped Sen was playing something sweet for them and not planning to push himself on their plans. Lem just had to wait and see, he could ask Sen but Lem personally loved surprises.

Lem himself was already ready for the spooky holiday as he happily held a big bag of candy. He stole this from the store, ready to go over to Lila.

Sen was taking forever upstairs, it really wasn't something that annoyed Lem because he was used to it. But they had to get going, time was ticking away and they already were five minutes late.

"Senpai are you done yet?!" Lem yelled upstairs.

"Just a minute!" Sen proclaimed back, Lem rolled his eyes.

Finally, he heard footsteps come down the steps.  Lem looked him up and down. Something wasn’t adding up. Senpai wore clothes that were darker than his usual fashion. It was still fancy but very abnormal to what he was used to. Sen gave a little spin showing off.

“Aren’t you supposed to be a prince?”

“No, I'm a vampire! Do you think Skid and Pump would like it!”

Lem looked him up and down. “I love it!”

“I don't care if you do sweetie! Do you think they will?!”

“Maybe? We have to get going Sen."

"Lem you aren't answering me! Do you think they will like it? See I even got fake sharp teeth." Sen opened his mouth pointing. No wonder he sounded a little silly. Lem was loving this, he was so cute.

"They will like it better than that prince costume you have planned. Still, I do not think they will view it as spooky enough."

Senpai's eyes twitched but he continued to smile. He expected Lem to say that. "That is why I have a plan to show them that I am!"

"...Sen what do you plan to do?"

Sen smirked as he stood on his tippy toes to whisper his plans to Lem. Lem felt his grin widen. He loved seeing this side of his boyfriend.

Lem arrived at the door of Lila's house and knocked. The door opened and Lila smiled at him looking him up and down. She was wearing a witch costume.

"Where is Senpai?" She then frowned.

"He said that he didn't want to come."

"Aw man, I was looking to spend time with him. I did lecture the boys about how harsh they were with him."

"Sen is fine, he doesn't really like scary stuff to begin with so he is spending his night doing self-care."

"Good for him! We all have our different tastes and that is ok."

"Yeah. He will be fine." Lem chuckled. A crash from inside the house caught Lem's attention. "Are they ready to go?"

"They are more than ready." All of a sudden the skeleton and pumpkin kid appeared at Lila's feet smiling up at Lem. "Thank you for doing this for me."

"It is no problem, Lila I love the boys."

"Mr. Lemon Demon are you going to be scaring people tonight?" Skid said.

"Maybe boys, right now we should just get some candy."

"CANDY!" The boys said in unison.

"Have fun and be safe!" Lila chirped. She then leaned over to Lem. "They better be safe or you won't be having a head tomorrow."

Lem nervously nodded back.

Lem walk alongside the boys. He had no idea where Senpai was but that was a good thing. The element of surprise was going to benefit him.

“I hope Mr. Sen is having a good night.” Pump laughed.

“Yeah hope it isn’t to spooky for-“ Skid stopped. He heard a groan in the distance and saw a figure slouched over on the sidewalk. “Mr. Lem look at that! Is that guy ok?”

They both ran over. Instantly the figure stood up revealing a beaten in face that was fiery. It didn’t say anything making it even creepy for the boys. Lem couldn’t help but giggle.

Skid and Pump first stared but then let out a wail of cries. Senpai who obviously was this ghostly figure felt his heart instantly break. They ran over to Lem in a hurry hiding behind him.

“No no no it is me!” Sen pushed himself to transform back instantly and slowly crouched down over to them.

“Uncle Sen…” Skid sniffed “Why were you on fire? Are you OK?”

“YES! I’m ok! I’m sorry boys! I just wanted to be scary for you guys but I went to far. Oh my goodness I’m so sorry.”

“Yeah! You were scary not spooky.”

”Got it.” Sen made a note to himself. He then felt himself sniff.

The boys looked at each other before going up to hug their tall uncle.

”It’s ok Mr. Senpai. We love you for how you are you, you don’t need to be spooky.”

”I don’t? But you didn’t want me to babysit you tonight.”

”We didn’t want you to be scared! We like doing other things with you like gardening and baking.”

“Awww,” Sen felt his face flush. “I am fine just walking around with you guys and trick or treating. Do you mind if I stay the rest of the night.”

”Noo we would love to Sen. I love your vampire costume.” Pump smiled. They then ran off ahead as Lem and Sen chuckled at each other. They reached out and held hands as they walked watching the boys.

”You were pretty terrifying. I liked it!”

”Hmph it really isn’t my style though!”

“Understandable! Just know you can always show that form around me.”

”Thank you hon.” Sen squeezed tighter.

The four of them spent the rest of the night knocking on houses and just enjoying the spooky atmosphere. Senpai knew definitely that Valentine’s Day was still his favorite holiday but Halloween was now definitely second on his list.
