Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked
Why do I do this to myself?
Why did I let curiosity get the better of me?
Why did I take Maya away from Eli?
A thousand thoughts rushed through Sirius’s head. He knew it was the second of November. Two days after Lily and James were murdered by that maniac and was sold out by that traitorous rat Pettigrew.
Sirius knew he shouldn’t have let Prongs change the secret keeper from him to Pettigrew. He should have suggested to Prongs that Prongs himself should have been the secret keeper but didn’t.
He didn’t know what to do. For the short amount of time, he had been there for Sirius had gotten to know the pattern of when the dementors got there. He knew he needed to turn into Padfoot so nothing would happen but because he felt so responsible for Lily’s and James’s death, he felt like he owned them.
He heard screams all around him. “Looks like I’m getting a next-door neighbour,” he thought to himself.
“The Dark Lord will come back. He is not dead and the Longbottoms know where he is” a shrill of a voice spoke.
“You evil cow. You tortured them both to insanity in front of their one-year-old child. They can not even say their own name let alone where he who must not be named is” an Auror replied.
“Merlin Bellatrix that is fucked up. Please I do not want her near me” he pleased as if anyone could hear him.
The cell next to him rattled open and his cousin Bellatrix Lestrange was thrown in. The auror locked her cell door before stopping in front of Sirius’s.
“You know Black I thought you were not like your family with you being disowned and everything but I guess it was all a lie really. Did Eli know about your betrayal, wait they didn’t because they were really angry at you. You played a really good worried twin the night we found them Black and I bet you were part of their disappearance then and now cause I know you killed their daughter. Did you know Edgar is dead along with the rest of his family, Murdered just like the Mckinnions? Fuck you Black and I hope you die in here” Helena Abbott spat.
Sirius was taken aback by the news. “I’m sorry did you say Eli is missing again. How the fuck did that happen?” he asked.
“Helena please answer” Sirius then begged.
Helena huffed before answering “Not long after you were taken in, Eli and Remus became to talk with Remus saying what day it was. As the two were about to go a death eater grabbed hold of Eli causing them to drop their wand. As Remus went to pick it up, Eli and the death eater vanished into thin air. We presume Eli is dead”.
“No no Leo can not be dead. They can not be dead. Nothing is meant to kill Leo because they have shown how strong they are. Leo is not dead and you are sick for believing that” Sirius replied pulling on his chains.
“Well, I guess I am sick then Black. And there is no point trying to get free Black, you are going to rot here and die for betraying the people who called you family. Goodbye,” Helena said before walking away.
Sirius just sat there watching one of his old colleagues walk away from him.
“Sirius darling, I know you didn’t betray for friends and I know it was Pettigrew. I know you didn’t have a trail but your memory went missing and that could be the reason why you are here” Bellatrix said.
“Trixie why didn’t you say it was Peter before this happen. Why make us think Eli was evil or even Remus was evil” Sirius asked.
“Because Sirius, Eli was considered to be a death eater until like what December last year. June that same year Eli turned to us Sirius but then it turns out to be Alexis no I know Eli and it wasn’t Alexis until December” Bellatrix informed.
“Now that is bullshit. It was Alexis in charge then because Eli would never leave their daughter and family” Sirius replied taken aback.
“Looks like Eli is more a Black than you like to agree Sirius. Ever heard of someone being a spy, I mean look at Pettigrew he was a spy” Bellatrix said.
“Then why were they taken by your lot,” he asked.
“We found out they were actually spying on us and not Dumbledore so Pettigrew took them. Oh, I shouldn’t have told you that” Bellatrix replied.
Sirius couldn’t see this but Bellatrix was grinning like a lunatic.
“I fucking knew someone had something to do with Eli kidnapping in April but no I thought I was crazy and no one I considered my family would hurt Eli” and Sirius began to struggle on his chain again.
“Well, my dear cousin it looks like you should have trusted your gut and looked for them harder. You spent all that time in Alastor Moody’s office and not once did you try and find Eli by yourself but you always told someone about how much pain you were in” Bellatrix said.
Sirius was still struggling on his chains “How the hell did you know about the pains. I only told Moody that, not even my friends knew. Bellatrix how did you find out?”
“Oh that. I had people working for me in the Aurors office and so when you told Moody about it and sometimes people were there, I would get told and the joy it gave me was wonderful” Bellatrix replied.
The clock in the distance chimed midnight and Sirius Black was now 22 years old.
“Well, Sirius, happy birthday. Now I need to get my beauty sleep” Bellatrix said before going quiet.
Sirius couldn’t go to sleep. His mind was racing with everything he was just told. He knew something was wrong with Peter but he didn’t want to get the wrong end of the stick but maybe he should’ve.
Sirius just stared at the moonlight that was pouring into the cell knowing full well that he was going to see the sunrise.
There truly ain’t no rest for the wicked.
