“9-1-1 what is your emergency?” Grace asked as she picked up a call from a worried mother.
“my kids, they are stuck on a cliff, and I think my one of them is hurt, he is just laying there and his brother can’t wake him up”
House 126 responded to the call, They had to go a long way to get there and when they came to the location off the accident, they saw the kids, they were indeed stuck on a cliff, there mother was hysterical and ran towards them.
“you have to help them, they were being idiots, I told them not to go there”
“how old are they?”
“both 13, they are twins”
“what are there names?” Owen asked as he looked on, wondering how they were going to do this, it was a 3meter drop to where the boys were located, and from were they were was another 7 - 8 meters down to the bottom.
“Saxon and Justin” there mother said, “Saxon is the one that is out, I think he hit his head, his brother did not see what happened, he went down there after him”
“what were they doing?” Owen asked again, getting all the information before he would send his people down there.
“I don’t know what they were thinking, or doing, I’ve told them many times to not go there”
“OK, TK I’m sending you down with Marjan,”
“isn’t that Vega’s call” TK smiled at his father,
“yes, of course”
“TK, you are going down with Marjan” Tommy Vega smiled and TK just smiled back as he put his harness on, then they got everything together at the top off the cliff and prepared to assail down to were the two boys were trapped. It should not be to hard, That attitude was the first mistake that TK strand did that day, but his worst mistake happened later.
TK and Marjan were ready. Paul and Judd were at the cables at the top off the cliff to make sure TK’s line and Marjan’s line were in good places, Tommy, Owen Nancy and Mateo were at the bottom off the cliff with a gurney, as only one of the boys seamed injured they were going to be putting them together in the ambulance. Then down they went, getting to the boys in no time at all.
“hey, are are you doing?, I’m TK” TK introduced himself as he placed both feet down, looking down for a second and he was very thankful that the boys had only landed here, and had not fallen down the rest off the way, because it was quite a fall.
“I’m Marjan” Marjan said as she smiled at the boys.
“I’m Justin and this is my brother Saxon”
“how did you end up here?”
“we were climbing, we do it all the time, just when mom isn’t home”
“you know this is quite a fall” TK said surprised
“yeah, but we like the danger, obviously it went wrong now, but can you just help my brother, I think he hit his head” Justin said, he was clearly not in a lecture kinda mood.
“his breathing is good, his pulse is good, he is just out, he probably has a concussion, but as off right now I can’t see anything else wrong with him” TK told the radio, looking down and giving them a thumbs up.
“good, Judd, get the gurney down to them” Tommy said as the stretcher came slowly down the cliffside,
“now TK, lets get him on and then we take him down here and into the ambulance” Tommy said
“sounds good cap!” TK said as he and Marjan started to prep Saxon for transport, getting him onto the stretcher and securing him so he would be safe on the way down, but before he went down, his brother got sent down, Marjan had a extra harness and Paul threw down a line for him to climb down.
One was safe down on the ground and now the other one was going down, he had not woken up yet, Judd and Paul held the ropes steady as the stretcher went down slowly and perfectly.
“OK, Marjan, now you can come down” Owen said as TK was still getting everything together, he would go last.
“OK TK, get down here, we are going to get the boys into the ambulance while you do that” Tommy said as she turned around with Nancy and they started to get everything ready to go. Tommy was very happy with how that call had went, the rescue had not been as dramatic as she had feared went they got the call, but little did she know that the day was just turning, and not in a good way at all.
“OK, I’m coming down” TK said as he buckled himself to the rope and started to come down, but as he was only half way through the assail, something snapped and TK found himself on a free fall, Owen, Mateo, Judd and Paul watched in horror as TK screamed before he met the ground, hard.
“TK!” Owen screamed as he took off running to him son.
“what happened?” Nancy called out as she had heard TK scream and then Owen
“TK FELL DOWN THE CLIFF” Marjan screamed at Tommy and Nancy who both came out off the ambulance with a horrified look on there faces.
“how high up was he?” Tommy said as she took off running towards her paramedic on the ground
“about 4 meters up” Marjan said “Mateo stay here with the boys!” Marjan ordered as she took off after Tommy as was everyone else who were rushing over to were TK had landed.
“TK! can you hear me?” Owen said as he was the first one to get to him
“TK can you hear us!” Nancy said as she got on her knees next to him, followed by Tommy and they were quick to assess him.
“someone take the ambulance, and call another one! now!”
“we need to take TK, now, the boys will have to wait” Tommy said
“dad” a low moan came from TK
“where does it hurt TK?” Tommy asked him
“everywhere” he moaned
“I need better answers kiddo, you know that” Tommy smiled as she held his hand
“my head, my left shoulder, the left side of my ribs and my upper left leg” he moaned out
“so everywhere” Owen repeated, worried about his son.
“help me dad, I don’t feel good”
“I know kiddo”
“it hurts” TK moaned out, as he was slowly coming back, the pain just kept on multiplying, getting worse and worse
“can I give you morphine?” Tommy asked him
“no, please, no”
“TK, this is going to hurt, I don’t think its a good idea”
“I can’t, my recovery, please, dad, no opioids! please no opioids” TK cried out, he was starting to breath heavy and the faint cries were not helping, he was in agony and everyone could clearly see that.
“is the other ambulance on its way?” Tommy asked
“yes, me and Judd called this in” Paul said as he and Judd had made there way down to were the others were
“is someone with the twins?” Tommy then asked
“yes, Mateo is with them” Marjan said
“good, Paul can you go and be with them as well”
“OK Cap” Paul said, he did not want to leave TK, but he understood that he had to, there were two boys already in the ambulance and Mateo could use the help, he was watching over Saxon who had still been out when Tommy had rushed out, but both boys were awake when Paul got there, and they both looked fine.
Tommy was stroking over TK’s upper and lower limbs to get a better idea of what was going on. Where his injuries where and what she would need to do, she could feel brakes in his ribs, his chest was also very bruised, and she was worried about his lung on the left side, there was always a risk with broken ribs that they would puncture his lung.
“TK, I need you to breath slowly, take slow deep breaths”
“I can’t it hurts, my ribs hurt so much” TK moaned, getting paler by the second
“I know darling, I’m going to give you something for the pain, we have Tylenol” Tommy said as Nancy set up an I.V for fluids. and then the hard part started, They had to move him to his back and that hurt TK so much, they had put a neck brace on him, but they were not really that worried about his spine, he was not complaining of any pain there and he had already been crying out in pain over his leg, but any movement sent him over the edge and as he was so upset his ribs started to hurt a lot more. It was pure agony to turn over to his back, but his back did not hurt, he had landed more on his side, Tommy was a lot more concerned about internal injuries, that the pain in the leg could be masking, because he femur hurt him the most.
“TK, honey, slow deep breaths, I know it hurts, the Tylenol will help”
“I can’t, I can’t” TK started, but he was starting to lose control of his breathing, Nancy noticed as she quickly put a oxygen mask over his nose and mouth.
“here, this will help” she told him as she then turned around to prep a shot of ketamine, hoping that would take him out for a few minutes,
“TK, I know you know that your femur is broken, we need to splint it”
“no, please it hurts” TK moaned back
“I’m so sorry! you know it will hurt even more in a little bit, but when your leg is in the right position it will get better, you know that don’t you?” Tommy told him.
“I want Carlos” TK moaned out, as he looked into his fathers eyes and he held his hand, “I need Carlos”
“I’ll call him when you go to the hospital” Owen told his son as he just held his hand as TK moaned, his breathing was sounding worse and worse, despite him having an oxygen mask on, It was so hard to look at this scene, TK was one of them and no one wanted to see him in such pain, it was very hard to look at him moaning and tears falling, and everyone understood that this was a serious injury, the femur itself was a major injury, but adding broken ribs, and the possible lung injury, and possibly a broken or at least a dislocated shoulder, that would be a hard recovery for him, and would only be harder because he could not take the stronger painkillers as they had opioids in them. The first couple off days would be nothing short off excruciating. Owen did not know how many alternatives the doctors and nurses had for opioid addicts. They probably had something, or maybe taking them and then helping him to get off them again, but he was not sure what TK wanted to do, or what he could do, maybe the pain would be to much, maybe he would handle it much better than he thought he would be able to, Owen just did not want his only child to be in this kind off pain.
“TK honey, please just take the morphine, It will make you feel better” Owen said to his son, but TK just shook his head slowly, he was fading in and out. Sometimes he looked like he had fallen asleep and then a few seconds later there was a deep and pained moan and he would open his eyes and then again a few seconds later he was out again.
“TK honey, try to stay awake for me” Tommy said to him as her and Nancy were trying there best to make him comfortable, but the moaning would not stop, he could not stop, it hurt so much, everything hurt. Tommy was getting more and more worried about if TK was bleeding internally, he was not responding to well because he most likely had a concussion as well.
Everything was ready to splint his femur, his shoulder had been wrapped and his arm was strapped down to his body and there was nothing that they could do for his ribs, they could not wrap them up, they would just have to be as they were, even if it would hurt. Mateo and Paul were now down there as well as another crew had come and taken the boys and there mother to hospital. the hole 126 were left there at the scene, tending to there own paramedic that had been seriously injured, Tommy and Nancy were starting to worry as TK was losing his colour, he was getting paler by the minute, Mateo had to hold the saline bag up and squeeze it to get the fluids into TK faster.
“OK honey, now the worst part” Tommy said
“you know how this goes TK, we are going to give you ketamine so hopefully you wont remember any off this later” Nancy told him as she gave him pain meds through the I.V she had placed in his good arm and a sense of calm came over TK’s face a few moments later, he was obviously feeling the affects of the Ketamine
“Carlos” TK moaned out, he obviously wanted his boyfriend there with him.
“OK, TK are you ready” Tommy said, knowing full well that TK was not about to answer her, then Tommy and Nancy, with he help off Judd and Marjan got TK’s leg into a splint and he screamed so loud during the hole process, but as soon as it was over, he was calm again.
“OK, get me the stretcher, and Judd, help us roll him to the right side, Marjan, Mateo you slide the stretcher under him and Owen you hold his head, Paul can you run and get the ambulance as close as you possibly can” Tommy ordered and everyone did as she said, and within a few moments, he was on the stretcher and on his way to the ambulance where Tommy and Owen went inside and Nancy hopped into the driving seat and then they were off with sirens and lights.
