Neon Moon

Summary:

some drifting thoughts, the mind at work and a kiss to make it all better.

Work Text:

———☀︎︎☽———

The sun was warm and shining its light brightly and unselfishly on the village. The air was a soft breeze blowing, sparing the people a cool and refreshing time. It was a beautiful day, as normal as each day was in the village. It was a lively day, as always; chatters and laughters filled the air. A good day to be alive. The sun was slowly diving towards the horizon— ready to take a rest and make way for the moon to shine.

Naruto had finished his training for the day. He sat on top of the hokage mount, his father’s . He laughed bitterly, lost in his thoughts.

For so long, he was despised and hated by the villagers because he was host to the legendary ‘evil’ nine-tailed fox, Kurama . For so long, he had no friends and no one to care for him; always alone. ‘What were they so scared of? He was just a kid.’ But now, it has changed. Then he found out he was the fourth hokage’s son, the yellow flash of the village; and the reason he had Kurama sealed within him was because his parents did it to save the village. But people never considered that before they detested him and told their kids to stay away from him. He was an easy and unfortunate victim of ignorance.

But he never gave way for hatred in his life; he didn’t want to live in hatred. Instead, he tried his best to live as best he could, trained as hard as he could and dutifully serve his village because that way, he have a peace of heart. And that was priceless and fulfilling.

He could say he was happy. But happiness is an elusive emotion, which exists for a moment and fades in the next. So, yes, he is at peace and happy sometimes.

But the loneliness never fades. And the loneliness never let him be fully happy. The lonesome feeling of loss— his father, his mother , his master — those feelings never leave him completely. The fact that he would never be in the arms of his mother when he was sad, that he would not have his father to guide him, his master to train him again— it was hard for him and it hurt. Memories — that’s all he have and it’s never enough.

On the bright side, he had lived and trained with Jiraiya for some years— travelled and had fun with him. So, his memories were bright and warm. But his parents — the memories he has of his parents were only glimpses and so short, from when he saw them while he was battling to take control of Kurama’s chakra. He miss them so much and wants to be with them like a family are. What a wasteful wish— his poor heart.

But the memories he have now, it is enough— it has to be enough. And with that, he let out a long and deep sigh.

When he looked around, the sun was already gone and the moon was rising, shining down with a warm glow. He was lost in his thoughts for so long he was not even aware of the sun setting. As the night was descending, a new train of thought dawned on him.

He’s alive and he has friends and a boyfriend— he blushed a little with that thought and a small smile graced his face. Yes, he had a wonderful boyfriend— a stoic, handsome, strong, bastardly caring and an asshole of a boyfriend. His moon— his light when he is too dim; his light in the dark, in the night.

‘But I’ll be alright, as long as there’s light from a neon moon.’

And with that thought, his smile grew a lot wider and much warmer, and his heart a lot lighter.

A particular strong breeze blew over, ruffling his hair wildly. And with it, he caught a sense of chakra— a very familiar and much welcomed chakra. He stood up, stretching out his stiff body and turned just in time to see Sasuke approaching him with his usual stoic and seemingly indifferent self. But one look at his eyes gave away everything. His eyes were full of warmth and love— and Naruto, naturally and inevitably was filled with the same sentiment.

“Tch, usuratonkachi, can’t you tell time and know it’s time for dinner? Why do I always have to fetch you, dobe ?” Sasuke calmly sneered.

Well, he fit in two insults in a sentence which caused Naruto to laugh a little. His boyfriend’s peculiar way of showing love. He finds it cute now but he still retaliated,

Teme, I was just coming home. And you didn’t have to fetch me, you asshole. I know my way home.”

Home— yes, his new home with Sasuke.

With the insults coming and going easily and naturally, they made their way to each other and fell into the other’s embrace. Sasuke tilted his head a little, his hand coming up to hold Naruto’s cheek gently while the other still wrapped around Naruto’s waist, pulling him closer to give him a kiss.

Their lips met in a deep, warm and soft kiss— promising love and care and home.

‘Yes I’ll be alright, as long as there’s light from a Neon Moon.’
