"Due to an unspecified imbalance one team will have to have four members instead of the usual three" Iruka said as he stood in front of his classroom announcing the new teams of the recent academy graduates sitting in front of him. They look amongst themselves whispering to the friends beside them, theorizing which team it'll be and who.
"Now then, next is team seven...Uzumaki Naruto" A certain blonde perked up at the sound of his name "Haruno Sakura" Naruto shot out of his chair with joy at the thought of being teamed up with his crush as said girl proceeded to sulk.
"I'm with.. Naruto?"
"Uchiha Sasuke" In no time the roles were soon reversed as Sakura cheered with her hands in the air and Naruto sulking, although Sasuke himself had no reaction. "And Yamashiro Heiwa"
"Who?"
"Huh?"
Both Naruto and Sakura let out sounds of confusion at having no idea of who the name belonged to, however they wouldn't remain ignorant for long.
"Are you sure?" Heiwa's face flushed as she didn't mean to speak up and quickly turned to her friend next to her for comfort, although the pale lilac eyes of Hinata Hyuga weren't giving much besides shock at what she'd done as well.
"Yes, the higher ups figured this team roster was for the best" Iruka tried to give his former student a comforting smile but Heiwa wasn't paying much attention anymore as her focus shifted between her friend and her new teammates. "Next is Team Eight, Hyuga Hinata, Inuzuka Kiba, Aburame Shino."
Heiwa grabbed her friend's hand as her team was called out, everything that was happening finally registering in her head "We're not on the same team."
"Mhm, it's gonna be hard being apart and not being able to help each other, but at least your on a team with Naruto" Hinata shyly smiled at Heiwa, which she giggled and returned although she was still at conflict inside at the thought of being on a team with strangers. Though Heiwa actually knew most of the people on her team, Naruto was the Class troublemaker and village outcast, Sakura was one of the brightest students in class and also a known sasuke fangirl, then Sasuke the most popular boy in class and probably the whole school and the only Uchiha clan member left in the village.
"Yeah but i'm sure we'll still get to hang out sometime"
"Team Ten. Yamanaka Ino, Nara Shikamaru, and Akimichi Choji." While Heiwa and Hinata were talking they could hear Ino making a fuss of not being paired with Sasuke as she was also a Sasuke fangirl, and instead being paired with Shikamaru and Choji. "Those are all the teams."
"Iruka sensei! Why is a top student like me in a team with this guy?!" Naruto stood from his seat and pointed at Sasuke accusing him of being below himself, pissing off Sakura in the process.
"Sasuke graduated with the highest scores and you, Naruto, had the worst scores. This happens because we want to evenly divide abilities between the teams." The class erupted into laughter midway through Iruka's answer, Heiwa tried raising her hand sensing an opportunity to ask why she was on the team as well but was drowned out and interrupted.
"Don't pull my leg, dobe" Sasuke finally responds to Naruto's insult by insulting him back.
"What did you say!?"
"You want to fight dobe!"
"Dobe!? Why you..."
"Stop it Naruto!" Sakura stops the two from proceeding with their argument and Heiwa gives up as she slowly lowers her hand and sighs, she has a feeling she's gonna be in for a long ride being in this team.
"I'm sorry.."
"I'm going to introduce the Jounin teachers in the afternoon, meeting adjourned until then." Iruka quickly makes his escape from the classroom causing the rest of the students to follow his lead by getting up and leaving as well.
"Let's get something to eat while we wait" Heiwa stood up while talking to Hinata helping her up as well. Eventually the two friends find a vending machine with Heiwa being able to pick first, she puts her money in first while switching topics in their conversation. "So Naruto was put on the team to counterbalance Sasuke out right? So was I, or Sakura put in to balance each other out? If so, what are we balancing out, me and Sakura are pretty average coming from civilian families."
"Well Sakura is pretty smart.. but so are you, hm." Hinata tries to think up how Heiwa balances Sakura to answer her friend but can't seem to "Isn't your mom a Kunoichi?"
"Kinda, she retired when I was super young, remember.. After she got that injury." Heiwa crouches down to grab the miniature bag of chips from the bottom of the machine. After Hinata finally picks what she wants the two find a bench to eat and chat at, a bit later Sasuke comes running through holding himself together. They laugh off the strange occurrence and continue on with themselves until Sasuke comes through a second time from the same direction, they give each other questioning looks before shrugging it off. Eventually they finish eating and the afternoon finally comes around, they head back to the classroom where they finally meet the sensei's who will guide them through most of life. Well, most of them come except one teacher who seems to be late.
"They're late!" Naruto stands in front of the door sticking his head out looking for the person that's supposed to be our sensei while the rest of the newly made team seven sit in the desks nearest to the door.
"Naruto, why don't you sit still!" Sakura exclaims, exasperated by Naruto's behavior.
"But why is our sensei the only one late?! All the other teams went somewhere with their new sensei already, and Iruka sensei went home already!"
"That's not very important" Before Sakura could finish Naruto was already propping a chalkboard eraser in between the classroom doors "Hey, what are you doing Naruto!"
"It's his fault for being late!" Naruto jumps down from the stool he was standing on.
"Geez, it's your own fault if you get in trouble" Sakura passively warns Naruto as she rests her hands on her hips.
"But we might-" Heiwa tries to speak up but is yet again interrupted by Sasuke.
"A Jounin isn't going to fall for a plain old booby trap like that." Sasuke closes his eyes as he rests against his arms yet again failing to realize what he'd done.
"Yeah! Naruto you're so stupid." As Sakura finishes a hand wraps around the door and pushes it open causing the eraser to fall and hit a gray head of hair, the chalk dust coating everything it touches. Soon enough Naruto erupts with laughter and points at the man in front of him.
"He fell for it! He fell for it!"
"I'm sorry sensei, I tried to stop him, but Naruto-kun didn't listen to me.." Sakura begins to act innocently so she doesn't get in trouble along with Naruto, bringing her fists in front of her chest. Heiwa can't help but feel the dread sit in as her face flushes with second hand embarrassment watching the scene play out. The man slowly bends down to pick up the eraser that just hit him and examines it before making a thoughtful face.
"How should I say this.. My first impression of you guys are.. I hate you"
